Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Anyone else think that Palutena's Temple looks like an incredibly unfun stage to actually fight on? It's more aesthetically pleasing that New Pork City, that's for sure, but it still has many of the same layout problems that NPC did, namely a lot of big empty spaces filled up with a few small platforms. Especially the middle of it, yeesh. It also looks like a pain to just get around, something I think Sakurai forgot about Temple--it was actually pretty easy to get from place to place. And the randomly placed spikes and springs remind me of the worst of Rumble Falls. All in all, I'm not exactly looking forward to this stage.

It certainly looks weird and it's a large stage.Yeah, people will hate it.

I'll have to wait and see what fighting the CPU is like on that stage. If one can keep them reasonably to one area it will be alright.

Yeah, it's probably the worst part of the game they'veshown thus far.

The problem with New Pork is that there's only really one segment where you're able to reliably KO people, and that's the tiny spot at the bottom where the block above provides a tiny ceiling. Ever other platform is mostly tiny and squared with little mobility and some weird gimmicks added about (such as the swing). There's just a shit ton of empty, unused space. The only spot where there's reliable mobility involved is the middle of the stage, and that place is only good for people who can KO in the air at low percentages.

Palutena's Temple looks more akin to, wouldn't you know it, Hyrule Temple. I don't believe it'll be a practical stage for 1v1 and it's almost certain to be banned, but it's clearly a more Free-for-All battle oriented stage with a lot of horizontal ground to cover and more ceilings. It looks more like a cat-and-mouse stage rather than New Pork which looked like it was built in an hour in the Stage Builder. I imagine those areas to the right area of the stage is going to provide a lot of fun at high percentages, similar to the bottom parts of Hyrule Temple.

Nope, I love it. I love chasing down prey. And I don't see how it looks difficult to navigate. Maybe if you use a character with bad recover that you're unfamiliar with.

The final destination version looks pretty nice though!

Seconded for mostly the same reason. This stage makes me hope atleast one character retains gliding, lol.

I think the stage will be great for 1v1s if the camera is programmed right, so that it treats each area as a seperate stage but it will be a nightmare for those who hate dealing with campers.

Hey SmashGaf, anyone have a good link to a melee video where they split the screen and show the players hands? I'm trying to pull one up for a buddy of mine, but every youtube search I do just brings up master hand vids.

Thanks (sometimes creepy) smashgaf!

I can see what you're saying. It doesn't look to be as terrible to play on like New Pork City, but it does seem a bit TOO big lol. I'll like it mainly because it is KI related and the music will be awesome.

I actually wish that certain parts of the stage could be used as tournament safe versions to play competitively on. I mean, look at the top left or the middle right with the Palutena statue behind it! Those would be great neutral stages!

Yup. Looks awful.

New Pork 2.0

I don't think any of the huge stages in Smash have been fun to fight on.

Nintendo didn't reveal further details on their Best Buy E3 week event until May 29 last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were down to 14 days or less before hearing more details about the Smash tournament/Best Buy Smashfests.

I hope they have better hours/more setups this year, too...

A huge issue with New Pork is that the entire area with the moving ship is a hassle to move across to go left/right on the upper chunk of the stage.

Palutena's temple doesn't quite seem to have a huge hole to obscure/ruin left/right travel like that, so it could be a lot better than New Pork.

Also: it doesn't look boring.

Yeah. New pork was worse than temple just because it was way harder to navigate. Temple can be fun if you don't play with assholes who run away, and you don't play with no items. At least it's navigable. Palutena looks more navigable, but i'd still say that it'll be on-par with temple at best. Especially since it looks like one of the platforms raises up ridiculously high.

As long as you can avoid the annoying locations it's fine though.
With new Pork you were essentially glued to one part of the map because it just wasn't easy to comfortably reach the other areas.

I remember being very annoyed in the past, having to chase people across temple but then I realized how fun it is when you stick to certain areas and I changed my tune. Hopefully Palutena's will be similar to that. The underground area will be really fun and close quarters and the botton right looks like the bottom of temple wherr all the ricochets and ceiling techs happen. Fun fun.

That one part of Hyrule Temple was where shit went down.
You know the part.

Also I actually had fun fighting on 75m, but I think I'm literally the only person in the world who felt that way. I have no idea why I liked it.

I used to play with no items 4 players and temple was still the greatest stage of all times

Everyone's still hoping ridley has his alfonzo :p

When ridley joins the battle, mecha ridley is in charge of the pyrosphere! Mecha Ridley: "KYAAAAAAARGH. BEEP BOOP!"
If we're gonna be really optimistic then I guess classic Ridley as he appears in Super Metroid and in the Prime games could be playable, and the ugly Ridley clone in Other M could be a boss.

But it won't happen. Ridley will have one trophy, and it will be the ugly abomination that was in Other M. The Ridley we all know and love is dead.

You know, I would be on the "Look! Ridley's there as a stage hazard! Time to end the debate!" side if Ridley were actually shown on the Pyrosphere stage. I don't really care if another version of him were playable or not, but just because of that leaves me skeptical.

Why mess with some of the fanbase like that Sakurai? What does he have to gain from it? Nintendo surely needs this to sell, so screwing with some like that probably wouldn't be in their best interest...

yes, because screwing around with Ridley of all characters is going to magically harm sales

lol

Ridley not being in the game might cost sakurai DOZENS, and i mean DOZENS of sales the first week. Those people will buy the game the next week once they realize how much fun everyone else is having.

I don't think ridley is as big a deal as ridley fans think ridley is.

If you performed a CENSUS for all people in the world, and asked them the following questions, here would be your answers:
Would you buy smash bros 4 if ridley isn't in it - 99.9% of the world - No.
Would you buy smash bros 4 if ridley is in it? - 99.9% if the world - No. What the hell is smash bros?

Ridley fans are already invested enough to buy the game anyway. Who knows, maybe Ridley wasn't fully completed so he threw people a bone with his shadow.

Replace Ridley with Palutena, Ashley, Mewtwo, Roy, etc...

There could be dozens of reasons why we only got a shadow. I'd be willing to bet that none of those reasons are 'sakurai is trolling us, ridley is playable after all.'

  1. Ridley's model wasn't done
  2. Ridley's animations weren't done
  3. The stage boss encounter's mechanics weren't complete
  4. It was a tease, "Who's that pokemon" style
  5. He wants to show off the encounter in detail at a later date. Showing off 2 boss encounters back to back might have been boring.
  6. He wanted the fans to figure out WHICH VERSION of ridley it was

I could probably think of more reasons, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

That the conversation happens every week with a different character and it's getting kind of tiring on both ends.

Eh, it's all in good fun though. People like to speculate about who will make it in, why they should make it in, and people like to make counter arguments as to why those reasons aren't valid. This will happen with every smash bros. It's all part of the pre-release hype and speculation, which I adore. It can get a bit boring to hear the same exact arguments week after week, but it's still part of the game!
