The giant head in space.... Why should I probably know what that is?

Great looking trailer

Pratt is the chosen one. He is what Taylor Kitsch, Ryan Reynolds, Army Hammer, Josh Harnatt, Tom Sizemore, and Ryan Gosling wanted to be.

Ryan Gosling has been a leading man for a decade, was nominated for best actor and is one year younger then Pratt.

Armie Hammer was great in Lone Ranger :(

Also you forgot marvels quicksilver, he's in successful movies but dude is styrofoam-tier

This looks great

I really love the color in this movie. Looks very vibrant. Some films will have like a tint to them( if that makes sense) but this one just looks more alive in comparison to a lot of SciFi flicks. This is going to look amazing on Blu Ray.

Gosling has the charm of mattress stuffing, he seemed to lost it on the set of Young Hercules.

He wasn't pushed like those other dudes, they had folks actively trying to get them over.

So, as someone who doesn't know anything about the comics, I'm curious. How did Star Lord get into space if humans had no idea about aliens until Thor came along? Was he like abducted as a kid or some shit?

So my only expose to the guardians of the galaxy is that one EMH episode and I have to say I have no idea what to expect from this movie based on the trailers. The tone is not what I expect from MCU, not sure if that's because they're trying to appeal to the mainstream or whether it really will just be super campy.

GOTG is anything but trying to appeal to the mainstream. It's following the comics in terms of the humour and team dynamic. It fits into the MCU pretty naturally in my opinion. It's the wackiest entry yet but most of the MCU films have had their fair share of humour/goofiness.

Interesting. I think my perspective is just a bit skewed because in the EHM episode I saw they didn't really have any of the goofy humour.

They wouldnt give it a massive budget if it wasnt trying to appeal to the mainstream

That's actually EXACTLY what happened lol I believe that his dad is alien, his mom is human, then aliens attacked in the 80's and some Kree named Yondu took him to space and thats why he has only a Sony Walkman with old 70's music on it.

I don't read the comics either so anyone correct me if I'm wrong!

What?

The list of what Fox does and does not own in their contract seems to be pretty damn eclectic.

Presumably, they're tied to Silver Surfer, but it's pretty baffling. I have no idea, for instance, how Fox got the rights to use Viper* (a SHIELD/Captain America villain for the vast majority of her history), yet seemingly has no rights to the Kree, Black Panther, or the Inhumans despite their historical ties to the FF.

*Granted, the Wolverine version had nothing to do with the comic character other than her name and wearing a skintight green bodysuit in a few scenes, but still.

It certainly has the potential to become a mainstream hit but it's not in the same league as Iron Man, Thor in terms of popularity. Those were the more obvious choices to turn to when setting up the MCU. Obviously Marvel have a fantastic foundation and can spin off from that into slightly riskier/less popular stuff.

Based on interviews and officially released material, this seems to be the backstory they are going with in the movie. In the comics it is a touch different.

Has it ever been officially confirmed that FOX has the rights to the Badoon? Viper I know is one of those dual-share characters like Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch.

Viper is a weird case like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. She's basically joint owned by Marvel and Fox as far as films go. Fox can only refer to her as Viper and her X-Men series ties while Marvel can only refer to her as Madame Hydra and those ties.

Yep. Gunn straight-up said it in an interview with Kevin Pereira:

Thanks. It's not particularly original but it works well enough.

They have essentially confirmed him multiple times on twitter and in interviews. I would definitely expect him to show up in the movie. How much? That's another story...Personally I don't expect more than a cameo.

A cameo would be fine. I'd like to hear him talk and maybe show off some of his power.

James Gunn said Marvel didn't have the rights in an interview a few months back, and they're certainly not part of the Spider-Man or X-Men licenses, so...
