Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

The only use I see for the thing is for VC GC games, because the original CC had analog triggers iirc

Yeah, it did. An odd omission from the Pro revision, dunno why they got rid of it in the first place.

Does the Mayflash adapter recognize the GC controller as an original CC w/ analog triggers, or as a Pro w/ no analog? Can anyone confirm?

Don't the adapters introduce an additional element of lag? I could be wrong.

IIRC, wired GC controllers are fine (on top of the Wiimote lag that was already there) but using a Wavebird through the adapter has quite a bit more input lag.

I don't have much faith in PDP to make a good controller, even if they are licensed by Nintendo.

But wouldn't it be neat if they became the "MadCatz" of the Smash community, like how MadCatz makes all these excellent premium arcade sticks for fighting games and sponsors a ton of FGC events.

Honestly, they should be wired USB instead of plugging into the Wii Remote. No worry about lag and probably easier for tournament setups.

If Nintendo just released this they could have all my money:

The third-party GC-ish controller is stupid. Why wouldn't I just buy the Mayflash adapter and use my actual GC controller?

If they're going through the trouble of making a gamecube controller for the game, why not go all the way and make it wired. How hard is it to make a controller that plugs directly into the console's USB input? All that wireless interference is going to make tournaments a nightmare.

Of course, competitive play has never really been a priority, so I'm not surprised.

Does Wii U even support USB input? I've never seen a controller that works over USB, they all tend to be plugged in to the wii remotes.

I haven't noticed much lag with mine.

If this new controller was wired or standalone wireless I might consider it, but it seems like it will be the same as just using a CG controller with an adapter, except with the added question of build quality. I don't know why they couldn't just make a Pro that had a more CG-like button configuration, but didn't need to be tied to a wii remote.

Since Mario Kart 8 is coming out next week, will Wario be revealed then?
All of the characters revealed to coincide with a game's release have been major characters in their respective games, but Wario is obviously far from being important to Mario Kart. (Not to mention Smash Bros.' "main" Wario is from WarioWare, but the Mario Kart version wears overalls.) I think we're more likely to see the Wii U version's Mario Kart stage next week if anything, honestly, or maybe just an explanation of the Spiny Shell item.

I just caught up with the pic of the day... I really like what they've done. Seeing a characters back for much of the game seemed silly, this is a cool solution.

We must be due a character reveal soon though.. maybe for MK next week? IT HAS BEEN A MONTH AND A HALF!

Gonna call it now: special edition wired GameCube Wii U pro controller will be announced just before the invitational at e3, and used by the players during the tournament.

Along with Meta Knight and Captain Falcon.

They're most likely gonna just stop at a wired Pro Controller, if they do anything about the wired issue at all. It'd cost less since they have a ton already.

Also, I wouldn't get your hopes up for Captain Falcon, at least as a starter character (same for Ness & Jigglypuff, the 2 OG characters you didn't mention that have yet to be revealed). The only reason they revealed Luigi early was because of the Year of Luigi.

I think people are looking too much into the "Nintendo partners" part of it. Isn't that how most peripherals are announced?

I'm happy but at the same time I'm disappointed because it's not wired and doesn't support rumble. I wish Nintendo would create a proper GC Pro Controller.
BTW, can we expect a quality product from PDP? I've never heard of them.

They're what mad catz used to be :p

But doesn't that go against Nintendo E3 presentations where the controls didn't work because of interference? Unless Nintendo were just making excuses. Or motion works differently than button lag. I don't know.

Mhmm. Also, melee tournaments still rake in around 150 entrants at times, even more for major events like Evo and MLG. It's not outlandish to imagine over 79 controllers could be operational at any given time (in doubles matches you have 4 controllers per unit, which would equate about 20 set ups being used simultaneously - - not a stretch). Also considering the hype that will surround this game's release, these numbers will be significantly inflated

According to Nintendo, cell phones cause problems too.

This is the fighting pad they made for the Wii. It looks... interesting. They had identical models for the PS3 and 360. Never used one so I can't speak to the functional quality.

Yeah, I have problems in my living room with wireless routers and phones going. A tournament wouldn't work at all.

People should give the wii u pro controller a chance. It's got great battery life and is really comfy.

Agreed. Still haven't used it for smash brothers (I can't! It won't work in Wii U's Wii mode), but for mario 3D world it was great. I've been using it for a while and only had to charge it twice. It's gotta be like 30 hours a charge.

Yea can't wait to use it for mk8. It works great for vc games too.

My pro controller just arrived, so hopefully it makes the experience remotely comparable to using a GC controller. That thing was fantastic.
