Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

But that's what I'm saying. The alt colors made it a lot easier to tell who your team mate is than this crap. This is probably just going to create more problems than it solves.
OTOH, this:

This was bullshit.

Wait, are you professional chicken littles acting like this removes alt-colors as a whole? Even though it clearly says this?

They're being stupid.

He clearly states you can now choose any alternative costume colours! All this does is change the outline so it shows the team and allows you to have any alt. colour.

You guys need to read this caption properly.

Also this means Pikachu doesn't get recolored into a mutant anymore! That's what bothered me with Pikachu, since his hats aren't distinct enough that they added tones over his fur.

Pic of the day. In previous games in the series, if you chose the red team in a team battle, your Mario would have been red. But now you can choose any color you want! The color outlining the characters will show their team affiliation.

I approve. No more getting stuck with a bad costume because of the team you're on. It should also make it easier to tell teammates apart if they're the same/similar characters.

Hmm, I hope this means we'll have more variety in color/costume choices. Some characters like Sonic and Lucario were pretty lame with their team colors which were just slight tint adjustments.

What if some dipshit on red team decides to pick blue Mario so I can't use him on Blue Team?

Or, worse scenario, what if my character doesn't have the appropriate alt palate because Sakurai cut the some of the old teams pallets because they didn't need them anymore?

What if someone knocks the controller out of your hand and then pours milk on your head

Who will patch that

Tough break. Pick your character faster.

You'll have the blue outline to differentiate, eliminating the need to only have one blue Mario.

This game is still also being made for Wii U, which doesn't have outlines. Hard to think they'll just throw away color palettes on the 3DS

I don't understand. The team color and the character palette now have nothing to do with each other. No matter what color Mario you have, if he's on blue team, he'll have the blue outline, and the blue Mario on red team will have the red outline, so you shouldn't have any problem telling them apart.

Looks good to me. I've probably played a total of like 5 team matches in Brawl though so pretty much anything would've been fine by me.

By the way, the secret 3DS game is totally gonna be an NFC Pokemon MOBA.

But i'm playing without outlines! D:

The wording to me sounded like this is a different outline to that outline, especially if this is on the wii U version too.

To the poster above... Who cares if the opponent chose Blue Mario? You will have a blue outline on your Mario :/ That's just the same as complaining he chose the character first in a free for all battle. I see nothing bad about this update. It's better than being forced into a costume.

You don't get it. He has to have his blue Mario. He now has to fight for it because blue isn't default for the blue team.

Pop-O-Matic wants the Communist state to pick for him. Great Leader Sakurai should answer for his crimes!

So yeah, this is a pretty great update. This game may not be bringing new features to the table at the same level that Brawl did, but the effort that's being put into these little tweaks that improve the experience will make up for it.

I can't recall ever having had the opportunity to play with teams, though. Does anyone here particularly enjoy the option? How do you strategise when everyone's in the same room and they're all shouting?

If you didn't play 99-stock Hyrule Castle Pokéball only Team matches with your buddies in SSB64 then you had no childhod.

How's the Wii U version going to handle this? Those outlines would look pretty strange there since the character models are so different. Will they instead do something like a colored aura?

get yer government hands off my palette swaps

I wonder what are the chances of him doing teams, being blue team and then someone else choosing blue mario on the same turn that he wants to be Mario lol. I have been playing 4 player free for all for years, and there are certain costumes I prefer with certain characters (Purple Luigi, White Marth, Pink Falcon, Black Fox to name a few) and not even once do I remember being bummed that one of the players picked the exact same chatacter and costume on that very turn. (And even if they did it wouldn't have mattered as that's what the player names are for and I would have picked my second favourite costume).

Another stupid thing about this that people on other boards are pointing out: Outlines becoming hard to see against similarly-colored backgrounds, especially the Blue Team outline against a blue sky.

I definitely recommend it next time you have four people around. Especially with Team Attack turned on. It's great fun.

Well looks like you arent normal, because if someone picks your costume or characet you have to rage hard and complain for the next 13 years. Come on thats how its done here on the intawebz!

Then you will know who is on your team from their nametag? How often and for how long is that going to happen?

That's what the name tags and arrows above each character are for. They look pretty big and obtrusive in the POTD, so I doubt that'll be a big problem.
