If you think anyone gets helped by comments generally made on forums like BB misc, even in some threads here, you're really mistaken. Especially when they are struggling with themselves emotionally.
 
Oh my god. I never would have believed those were real due to the extent to which phrases like "the supreme gentleman" play into internet memes and stereotypes, but the tragedy itself is proof enough now. I wonder whether he evolved those particular phrasings of his thoughts of his own accord or internalized them from internet humor and mockery.

Scenario: A kid gets bullied and shoots up his school. Do you think it's more helpful for the reporter to say that he had a mental illness or that he was bullied everyday for several months which caused him to have a mental breakdown? Blanket statements such as "mental illness" don't help anyone. It just allows society to sweep the problem under the rug. Once you attach the mental illness label, people don't care anymore. THEY'D never do such a thing because they don't have a mental illness. The reason that people got killed was because the shooter was crazy, not because of reasons that could have been prevented. The concept of having a mental illness is so stigmatized that people will refuse to get treated because they don't want the label. That's dangerous. In addition, at what point does someone have a mental illness? There was a poster that I replied to earlier that said he almost felt what this guy felt. However, he chose a different (and better) path. Does that person now automatically not have a mental illness because he didn't massacre innocent people? Or did he have a mental illness up until the point where he decided it wasn't the world's fault? Or does he still have a mental illness? Does the question really even matter? Should we not help those in need even if they don't have a mental illness? Or does everyone who needs help have a mental illness? IMO the label is largely irrelevant from a societal standpoint and only serves to help people easily make sense of a complicated world.

Kid said he initially pulled down the videos because family/friends were concerned. If they had knowledge of those videos I don't understand why he was still out on the streets. This kid needed help... like institutionalized.
 
He probably came off as a creeper/stalkerish type to whatever girls he spoke too, that is if he even had the guts to talk to any.

Such a shame all around. Rip to the victims.

I'm just going to agree to disagree on this issue. What you want is the exact same thing I want except the thing that gets exposure is different. Society is generally shitty when it comes to mental illness and kicking people around. What I want is for people to be okay with admitting that they might be mentally ill, to not give a fuck about the stigma and to get help.

Violent fantasies of any sort aren't necessarily a sign of mental illness. Craving to act on those fantasies and fighting your own will not to act on those fantasies is mental illness.

Just saw this linked from another thread and thought I'd share a tip on browsing cached links. For anyone interested in reading the thread fully cached install this userscript. It allows one to navigate entirely within Google Cache results (the tilde key ~ toggles between cached/non-cached links).

Alternatively here's page 8 of the thread, the last number in the URL can be changed to access the previous pages.
 
I'm just mystified that if the family knew something was going on nothing was apparently done. He clearly had more problems than being murderous narcissist and I doubt he made much of an effort to fly under the radar.

Well if the family doesn't get blamed guns obviously will be. I'm just in shock that a rich white kid couldn't get enough motivation to buy a few hookers and blow so he shoots people instead.

Seems to me he grew up spoiled and received no proper love or attention from his parents. His dad is a hollywood director and stepmom is a Morrocan ex-model. Introvert and narcissistic personality is what makes this truly challenging. He had been planning this since a long time (there's posts he made up to a year ago where he talks about killing people).

You are suggesting that a person can work through his emotional problems and need for real human contact via just buying a prostitute, as in "guy just needed to score some pussy" is somehow a valid statement and a way to stop these shootings from happening?

I doubt it but then again I might be wrong. Just said in a previous post that I need to stop posting in these threads, it only gives negative vibes to even read news related to mass shootings. /eject

This wasn't about anything he said it was about. If it was there would be infinitely more men out there doing exactly what he did. He needed help that he clearly didn't get, and who knows how far back he started needing it.

I'm wondering how big of a part the second guy had in all this. Did he encourage this guy to go ahead with his plan, did he help get him the gun and why wasn't he in the vehicle when everything was over?
 
One of the videos shows him, a rich kid inside a BMW in a beautiful beach watching a happy couple and saying "THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD"

I can only imagine how the parents raised this kid
