That video was extremely disturbing, that guy speaks like if his line were take straight out of a bad anime or comic villain, it almost seems like a parody. It must be awful for the parents to actually see what their son actually became, and how he actually speaks and ends up acting like a real monster. My heart goes out to the family members of the victims.
 
Total cringe material with his monologue. If he spoke like this around other people, I can imagine why girls weren't interested.

RIP to the victims.

Why would I? The video is far more telling, but that in addition to the forum posts and the fact that he followed through with premeditated mass murder is evidence enough that he was a psychopath.
 
Somebody really needs to take down BB really. A breeding ground for misogyny that helps push mentally unstable people over the edge. Only in such a sad culture would a kid think because he's a virgin at 22 that something is wrong and he has to end his life.

I'm just saying it's easy to look back now that all this shit has gone down and say "it's obvious he needed help." Without all the evidence and the fact that it happened, would you have said the same? Just looking at his posts?

Have you ever read responses in Lonely-GAF threads? Honestly sometimes I'm shocked someone from GAF hasn't snapped. Then again even the most lonely of GAF members seem to have a decent handle on reality. I'm sure if that kid posted here the outcome would unfortunately have been similar due specifically to his own outlook on both life and himself.

What you need to realize that being single ISN'T A BAD THING. Focus on your good traits (work hard? work hard, smart? get smarter, etc) and the rest will just come along. Stop being impatient and looking for it. You can't get it by looking for it, but let it find you.

It is, but that's only natural as it's only apparent to me with the evidence. He was such an extreme narcissist, I'm not sure if there would have been any way to help him, even if his family took his illness seriously.

Yeah, that asshole is trying to sell his services. Isn't the issue here not the fact the guy didn't have apparent dating skills, but the fact he took our social ideas too seriously? He was caught in a permanent social game of comparisons; he compared his wealth, his penis, and his experiences to others, and he looked at what he lacked so severely he poisoned himself.

And that person shilling really thinks it would have helped if you give him dating tips instead of trying to get him to be content for what he has instead of what he lacks? Come the fuck on.

Campus Health should offer therapy. There's no shame in it.
 
I didn't have a girlfriend and didn't have sex until I was in my 30's and I'm lonely and I have issues, but I'd never go out and kill people. This guy is/was creepy and an all around sociopath. I don't think even a relationship would have helped this guy.

Tragic story and people needlessly lost their lives.
 
I'm a little disturbed by the way 'mental illness' is thrown around as if that explains all and timely therapy might have stopped this idiot.

Society doesn't know how to deal with the social ills of the disenfranchised. They are lonely, angry and destructive because they feel underprivileged and deceived/manipulated by society's messages of attainable success. Most become self-destructive/suidical, many become criminal, some delusional and a few murderous.

And the only response we have to do those feelings is to slap a medicial or quasi-medical diagnosis on it and hope psychiatry will manage these people with therapy and drugs. We know how to deal with mental ills - so it's easier to classify social ills as such.

I'm sure pathology plays a part in what happened here. But he doesn't strike me as particularly confused about right and wrong. He knowingly and deliberately caused suffering and while a mental illness might diminish his responsibility, it doesn't absolve him.

Full disclosure, I come from a law-enforcement background and see these disenfranchised people everywhere. Some are obvious time bombs. Literally no one seems to have figured out how to deal with them long-term. We manage the symptoms and ignore the cause.

Psychiatry brought us many benefits and alleviates a lot of suffering. But it's not going to mend growing fractures in our community.

While I feel GAF in 2004 was a much less mature place, you do have a point in that hindsight bias makes this outcome seem that much more self-evident than it actually was. Recent threads seem more of a mix of people mocking those posters and suggesting them to seek some actual help, albeit sometimes within the same post. Not gonna pretend I haven't made some jabs myself.

Might as well take down those PUA sites and all of the MRA movement sites as well.

My question is: where were his parents in all of this? If he was unstable on camera, it stands to reason that he'd be unstable in front of them. Or were they the type of parents who left money on the table for ordering pizza and went out to functions without their kid?

I have more questions. I hate seeing things like this and not fully understanding what the individual was really going through.

No I choose to stay away from such threads, but Neogaf seems to be modded pretty well in politics/religion type of threads so you'd think things like that would be stopped fairly quickly.

Have no idea what the PUA thing is, but the MRA thing seems to be a party for the socially stunted people to hang around each other. Unpleasant, but nothing like the pseudo "Cool kid" table BB projects in its forum. It really comes across as all the douchebags from high school trying to tear people down. All fine and dandy until someone snaps though.

The video doesn't even seem real. If I saw that before it happened, I definitely would've just thought that it was just some guy trolling. Man, there are some crazy people in this world.

If someone is mentally unstable or depressed it doesn't really take much. You don't necessarily need vile comments to set someone off. Repeated taunts that to the person posted might seem light hearted but to the person reading may be enough. An example could be say the "Kiss on the first date thread". He shook the girl's hand instead of going for a hug. If he was a depressed, self loathing individual with a superiority complex like the kid is this incident; even the simple taunts of "lol a handshake bro?! lol" can be enough to set someone off. A cut deep enough can hurt someone regardless if that cut is from a machete or a kitchen knife.

What you're basically asking for is to get rid of message boards and the anonymity they bring.
