Microsoft showed Sunset Overdrive and Halo last E3. They're going to show them again this E3.
The only (exclusive) Xbox One title confirmed to release this year is Sunset Overdrive.
The output hasn't been the same as last year was for PS3 but if we're going to compare them unfavourably to another first-party line-up, it should be Nintendo, not Microsoft, because the comparison isn't unfavourable at all.

Graphically wonderful. I wish they'd kept it behind the curtains until they had a significant amount of gameplay to show off, like Rockstar does with GTA.
As it is, I'm reserving judgement but finding it extremely difficult to get hyped. To those who say "it's only 2 mins of gameplay". Well, what's the point of it? It doesn't generate hype with some crazy action sequence, no new info on gameplay either. If anything this dampens the hype for the game.

You're not wrong at all, althoughwith MS, most people are probably coming from the point that while not officially confirmed, we at least have a really good firm idea that a Halo 2 anniversary thing will be coming out, and Forza Horizon 2, alongside Sunset Overdrive. On the PS4 side, we know about driveclub, but if there's no the order, we don't really know what there is. That might mean they've did a good job keeping a lid on it, it might mean there's nothing. There's project beast, but nothing has indicated when that will be.
But the only thing that was innovative in RDR was its setting, story and charachters. The rest was same old same old.
Why do you thing that action sequences is only thing that Order 1886 will have to offer?

Shows The Order here as a 2014 title.
But, my goodness, I'm afraid Sony is going to have a horribly drab 2014 lineup for games. It's so disappointing, as I bought PS4 because of how amazing the PS3 first-party lineup was. I know it's only the first year, but it's still one of the worst first years in a long time for a console, UNLESS they announce some more stuff.

This can't be echoed enough, PS3's first year was the definition of empty. Sure we won't see as many big AAA exclusive titles for PS4 in 2014, but at least PS+ and indies will soften the blow compared to PS3's rough start.
This shouldn't really count as a reason to buy Ps4 and neither should Halo collection. Counting ports and remasters as big exclusives is kind of pathetic imo.
The Witness and Transistor do look like reasons to own PS4 though. I'd buy those over Order.

ITs still weaker than the PS3 list, but its not as bad as it might seem. Plus, we don't know what other surprise games there will be before the end of this year.
I just figure if you can already play them on platforms that you may already have/are already out, (PS3/Vita), they aren't really the same. Not that they mean nothing, but it's not the same as Sony having developed way more games exclusively to PS3 despite PS2 continuing to sell well at that time.
And, like I said, I really hope they announce more games coming this year exclusively to the PS4.
I think cross-platform 'Sony' exclusives count, because Sony is still putting out these new games, they just have another place to sell them. PS2/PSP couldn't have had the PS3 games at the time.
I still think it's a really bad first year for Sony's output. If The Order slips, the only thing I'd really have cared about was TLoU, and it's just a port. They're going to have incredible stuff over the next few years, but it's pretty shabby right now.

If the games they develop do not require a PS4 like The Order obviously will but will also run on PS3 and Vita, then I think it's inappropriate to hold that against Sony. It's basically wanting something to be exclusive just so list warz look better for your platform.

Nope. They need to make more games that are exclusive to PS4. Having exclusives mean more reasons to upgrade from PS3, and more optimization and power out of the system, creating better looking and more compelling games.
You are projecting my analysis onto my personal feelings on the subject. I own many of these PS3/Vita/PS4 games and enjoy them, and I like the value proposition of Cross-Buy. I'm just realistic in knowing that system exclusives are vital to a platform's success, and there are very few of them in the PS4's first year.

It's fine if you have that certain standard for a platform but most people don't, even on a enthusiast forum like GAF. It's asinine for one person to purchase a $400 console, than purchase a $500 console that share most of the same library as that $400 console and/or invest in a high end PC that costs more than that combined. Most people don't cherry pick certain games on a console based on who is publishing it or not. The new Batman is just as a exclusive as whatever Sony develops because they only have one platform to play it on.
For everyone else, games are games. If it looks interesting they'll play it regardless because a) It's the best option to do so or b) it's the only option. Anything beyond that is just fodder on internet forums.

Yes, but nobody is going to buy a PS4 for Batman if they can already play it on their PS3, or their XB1, or whatever platform they have.
Please don't try to make the ridiculous argument that exclusives aren't important to the success of a platform. Why did PS3 end up selling so well? It certainly wasn't a better console experience than 360 in the majority of ways, and it's always been more expensive than the 360, yet it's done very well for itself, and even (I believe) outsold 360 worldwide.

You can't fault a game for being a certain genre. Its a shooter, you are going to shoot things.
It's all about give and take, when you make a linear game you are sacrificing openness and freedom but what you gain is better mechanics, more focused pacing/better level design and a better told story.
Now if this game fails to deliver in those areas than it has nothing to offer, but lets see how it executes before we disregard it completely.
You already got GTAV recently and Infamous, there's Witcher 3, Dragon Age and Destiny coming out to fill your void, among others.

I gave that specific example because you can only play the new Batman on a next gen console and PC, but regardless people do purchase consoles to play third party games for a variety of reasons. You could play Fifa on PS2 for years but eventually people upgraded, it happened last year too with PS4 and X1. CoD Ghosts sold the best on X1 last december in NA.
You made the assertion, you have to provide evidence in support. This is basic debate stuff.
But because I'm such a nice person I'll give you some keywords that you can incorporate and address in your upcoming analysis: Market share, network effect, brand power, marketing, regional support.

Right, people will eventually upgrade, but that's mainly when there are little to no exclusives left for their old systems, and third-party games are stifled by aging hardware. Look, I'm CERTAINLY not saying third-party games are unimportant or anything. They're obviously important, but exclusives are even more important to a specific platform's success. If I want to play Batman Arkham Knights, I can buy an XB1 or PS4. If I want to play Sound Shapes, I can play on my PS3, Vita, or PS4. If I want to play The Order, I have to buy the PS4.
That would mean I was saying that exclusives are the only important aspect of a system's success, which I wasn't remotely stating. However, the first-party exclusives HAD to have been a part of the system's success, because it had very little other redeeming qualities over the 360, which was a cheaper platform with better online functionality and multiplatform games.
Regarding the rest of your post, if you want to focus on the scientific side of "analysis" as your entire basis of disregarding common sense, feel free, but I don't have any intention of taking part in it.
You said "vital."
I'll assert that a console that has no first party exclusives but is 200 dollars cheaper but plays all multiplatform releases better will be even more successful.
If exclusive first party software was vital, that would not be the case.

My overall point is that both next gen consoles are expensive and redundant in terms of gaming library. For most people they're going to make one choice, and that choice is going to end up being the main machine to pick up both third party and first party content for the foreseeable future. When someone bought a PS4 to play 'x' third party game, then they're not going to care what other platform Batman is available or the next GTA or Fallout or whatever popular third party game in the near future.
Are exclusives important? Sure, but third parties make up the vast majority of the library.

ND has two teams, but both teams would have been hard at work to ship The Last of Us last year right since they aren't a big studio? Those entire 3 years might not count as production time right? It will be great to see UC4 this year, but with a massive new ip like Order1886, wouldn't it be wise of Sony/ND to push UC4 to Fall 2015?

Agreed. This feels like a forced controversy. For a while now the list of exclusives haven't been good enough or numerous enough to make much of a difference. The heavy hitters have been multiplatform third party games.
Microsoft has been talking about bringing back some old gems like Crimson Skies, Mech Assault, and Shadow Fall. That lineup plus their current offerings would, for me at least, once again make exclusives a major factor in buying a console. However right now exclusives played no part in my decision to get a PS4. There is no must have exclusive game for either system.

Sony has never tried to time releases to coincide with MS releases.
