Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

For some reason Takamaru is my most wanted character, which is weird, since I have zero attachment to him whatsoever and can't even pull up what his game looked like in my head. But an old cartoony samurai guy! I dunno it sounds fun to me. I like reviving another ancient Nintendo franchise, too.

Him or Lucina, pls.

I've always found it interesting that Tecmo dug him up and plopped him in SW3 for Wii.

No AT ;_; Need King Hippo to add to the villains roster and the big characters roster!

But he has to be in the same category as mother brain! And since mother brain is already an assist trophy, he needs game parity with her.

Seriously, who was the designer that thought big blue nipples was a good idea.

fuck those fish, man

I think the story actually works out better with him dying anyway. Her motivation to find Locke works well as a catalyst to get the rest of the ball rolling and without that the reveal of the raft is just... flat. plus I CRY EVRY TIME

I suppose...but the guilt would eat me up inside like crazy lol.

I believe that was Nintendo's doing. They were bragging (probably solely for marketing purposes) that the Naze no Murasame-jo mode in the game was designed by Miyamoto.

They do bring him up here and there. They had the Takemaru game in Nintendoland, though that was almost certainly because they already had a ninja star game made for E3 demos and used a license they owned that was compatible with it.

Wait who is the non-protagonist between Marth and Roy

(an example pulled out of desperation turns out to be completely bogus? shocking)

There are two reasons everyone buys into it. 1. He made some initial unlikely predictions that came true. 2. The rest sounds reasonable and follows existing newcomer patterns (protagonist from a beloved RPG. New fire emblem rep from most recent game. More characters from sakurai developed games. That 'weird' one that makes people go 'what the hell? what game is that from?') There's precedence that makes all of the picks make sense.

BECAUSE it's so predictable and makes sense, I really want it to be proven false. It's my one E3 hope. I want sakurai to surprise me. I want many of those characters to make it in (palutena especially), but I also want the 'Rosalina', the character that WASN'T on the list.

Just because you make correct predictions once is no guarantee that your next one will be.
You'd think that on GAF of all places, this would be well known.

People are still buying into it. He also made 3 really GOOD predictions, but he also threw out like 6 names, too. He basically hit some sort of jackpot by doing that. Doesn't mean it's a leak though. Jackpots happen.

Even that one character wouldn't prove it false. That would take something like Shulk being revealed as an AT.

Yup, my thoughts exactly. This change came from a necessity for the 3ds version. It's probably really tough to tell if you're at high percentage or if your enemies are (especially since they're changing the speed at which you climb back on stage to not reflect your percentage anymore). Very smart way to indicate information to the player without needing to look at your percentage.

Also, gear 2nd (I have to assume sakurai or someone on his team is a fan)

Greatly elucidated, my man. The steam will probably stay at the same level of opacity, but as your percentage increase, the quantity will just increase or maybe it will start billowing faster?

I think Sakurai and Namco Bandai know well enough to not make the steam obscure players view of the battlefield though.

What better way to defend Mother Brain than as a PC?

Oh, he would definitely be the best playable punch out villain, for sure. Way more iconic, and would add some more 'size' diversity to the roster. He just doesn't fit into my captain N dream roster, not yet! :p Maybe when mother brain is playable.

Oooh, what if King Hippo is the stage boss for little mac's stage? If you defeat him, pineapples rain out and hit everyone.

Takamaru is the best retro rep.

He was in Samurai Warriors 3, Captain Rainbow and has a mini-game dedicated to his game in Nintendo Land.

I really wanted to see how he'd look based off his original artwork, along with what his moveset would be like.

If I had to guess, it was added later into development after playtesting on the 3DS with percentages on the bottom screen. I bet a lot of deaths were as a result of not knowing how close you were to death.

IIRC the game is coming to EU for the first time, on the eShop. Presumably the text will be translated to English, so it's a possibility it will come to America as well.
You're talking about The Mysterious Murasame Castle. I think he's talking about Captain Rainbow.

Though honestly, after Little Mac's reveal, I kind of cooled down on my support for a second character. I'd imagine that a character like King Hippo would, in all honesty, be similar to Mac in that he's good on ground and shit in the air.

Which is why, in terms of supporting the best character, I've been trying to shift myself to Great Tiger, who is definitely the best character in terms of both strangeness and interesting combat styles. He could teleport, he could split into other forms (imagine if his side B shot out a projectile form of himself to punch a distant opponent!), etc.

I'm sorry but anyone who says "gematsu guy got lucky picking wft, mega man, and villager" is just crazy, combine that with the later reveal of little mac and all the evidence hinting at pacman and miis being playable and that means his first leak (currently at 4/6) will likely be 100% confirmed. Obviously his second leak hasn't had anyone besides for his vaguest choice confirmed, but at this point there is far more evidence to say "he has insider info" then to say "he's making shit up and has been incredibly lucky"

And yea all 11 of his characters could be revealed and it could have just been a god like guess, but the odds would be in favor of him having actual insider info and his leaks being real then him being extremely lucky.

And honestly other then the Chorus Man are any of his remaining picks that outlandish? All of his outlandish ones have already been confirmed and the few remaining ones are characters a lot of people expected before his leaks (shulk, palutena, chrom, miis, pacman).

They also are in charge of localizing the series games. Not sure if they help make them in Japan.

On the subject of customizing. How custom can we make each character? or does anybody know?
We'll probably just be able to change the properties of select special moves. I don't think we'll be able to completely alter the animations or anything like that.

Yeah...it's a bit odd that he can't shoot fireballs. That's his first original attack.
Bowser was likely given the fire breath in Melee to differentiate him from Mario, but with Charizard's Flamethrower it's not like that matters anymore -- the attack is redundant either way. It should have been changed to a fireball for this game, honestly.

The fact that Sakurai's said so little about move customization indicates either a) a large chunk of E3 will be devoted to explaining it, or b) there isn't much to say, because all it is is changing some of the properties of a limited selection of moves. I'm guessing it's the latter.

Probably, if it was more in depth than that it would take a lot more work.

Or we are going to get other smash direct in the future.

Unconfirmed, but presumably just changing the specials.

All we know is that there's custom moves and that you can't use them online in public lobbies.

That's it, that's literally it.

We'll probably just be able to change the properties of select special moves. I don't think we'll be able to completely alter the animations or anything like that.

So basically just changing the Up+B move with the Down+B move? or do they get entire different moves?

With move customization, I'm hoping you'll be able to change stuff like Mario's FLUDD back into the tornado or change whether or not Falco throws his reflector. Stuff like that.

I'm assuming 4 variables, one for each special. 3-5 choices for each. Would be my guess. 3 by default, 2 more unlockable by playing the character enough.

Mario
Neutral Special:
  • Slow Big Fireball
  • Direct Fast Fireball
  • Luigi style Fireball
  • Ice Ball (unlockable)
  • Dr Mario Pill (unlockable)
