He probably said he wasn't interested, can't say I've seen much enthusiasm about Smash 4 from him based on interviews and stuff. Meanwhile, people like KDJ were doing hour-plus analysis of the Smash Direct, so yeah.

The rules make total sense when you consider this is basically a way to show off the games. Like it or not, items are a huge part of the game as is free for all. And forcing each player to be a different character means showing off more characters as well

That's what i gather from it. Once someone picks fox, they play as fox the whole tournament and no one else can pick fox.

Did people really expect no items? They're doing this to show off the game, and items are part of the game. They're probably doing random stages, too. And timed matches let them better control how long the thing will take.

I hope the players get a chance to practice beforehand so it's not their first time playing.
