Yeah, I don't get why I keep seeing posts like that, or even the initial hype wave saying how it's the best looking game they've seen. These games have solid atmosphere, but even this one from the admittedly short clip doesn't seem to be doing much. The leaves particularly stand out in being totally static.
It would be so much more badass if the leaves would move around during that backdash shotgun attack. Hope that ends up happening.

I have and its nothing like it. I own both the PS1 and Shadow Tower Abyss PS2 versions. The PS2 one by far is the superior version. Do believe the PS1 Shadow Tower came out in the US but not the 2nd one.
Demons + Kings Field actually makes more sense as the games share similar design features in some ways. But obviously Demons brought things up to more modern standards plus third person, though the feeling of solitude within the world was most def there, even if you did meet folks who spoke to you from time to time. Also how the general adventuring was, though demons with the hub made it a little different from Kings Field which generally is a single area, that has the loading hidden so it feels seamless.
But Shadow Tower that title was so unique in many ways that it really stood on its own. Not to mention there is no leveling system as everything with stats was gear based. Ammo was limited due to money being quite rare so even though you could buy stuff its not like you had a ton of cash to get everything, shop stock was limited also. Weapon durability got harsh also. Fixing weapons costed HP and healing items were rare in general so you didnt want to go wasting them. Lots of other things too, such as the dismemberment on enemies.
Ive posted these before in the other hype thread talking about the exact same stuff. And provided personal footage of both Kings Field 4 and Shadow Tower Abyss, both PS2 era titles and the last for both games in the series. Well unless you count the odd PSP Kings Field titles, which Id say was more like a semi "action" based Wizardry that you play by yourself as in no party. Have those also. Hard as fuck games.

My first FROM game was:
Played when I was 11 or something.......was too hard or confusing. Didn't know how to open some door and left it for Kingdom Hearts lol. Came back to it when I was 14 and got further to this dragon cutscene but after that had no idea what I was doing.
Crazy how much of a reputable studio FROM has become now.
Shadow Tower isn't tough, but it's less forgiving than the Souls series. You can get seriously stuck if you use healing items too generously.
I would say it's like choosing when to use Save Tokens in Dragon Quarter.

It really is, due to you need to assess your situation a lot and wonder if its worth fighting or just running. Wasting time allows for enemies to respawn too which causes a ton of new problems with eating into your equipment stock. Since there is no levels, its not like killing things over and over really have any sort of meaning. Sure they may drop items at times, but its random so what might happen instead is you are just wasting HP and equipment durability / healing items as some of the status ailments are pretty rough lol.
Ive seen some insane speed runs with the game though.

Ive been with them since the JP PS1 days started with Armored Core & Kings Field back then. Im curious as to what they made on the PC since the company itself has been around for a lot longer than I initially knew. Had even attempted to get a job with them at one point in time lol. But that was like 10 years ago.
Looks like a blade on a handle that swings, not a whip.

Shadow Tower Abyss and Kings Field IV is right under the Busin game.
The Kings Field collector box is in my closet still unopened.
Im both a mech freak and the type of fantasy titles from software has been producing. Long time ago even had detailed plans done out for an arcade version of Armored Core. This was waaaaaaaay before all the shit bandai did with the gundam senjou no kizuna game and other networked h2h type of titles. Back still when arcades were plentiful and new machines were coming out all the time.

You were going to work for Fromsoft once....wow. Armored Core is a series I am definitely interested in after I saw that vid you posted of that crazy battle. I would love if that series got more recognition now that FROM is a more notable developer.

From Software didn't make Demon's Souls part of the King's Field series because they wanted a clean slate despite the obvious similarities in setting and atmosphere. This has even less overlap with Shadow Tower than Demon's Souls did with KF, so it's unlikely to be a sequel/reboot. (Shadow Tower was kinda science-fantasy and surreal horror, while this has a distinctly Gothic horror feel.)
I wound up playing Eternal Ring and a good chunk of the King's Field series in 2010 and 2011 after Project Dark was first announced. Didn't have a PS3 to play Demon's Souls, but I still wanted to get as much context as possible.

Its nothing special, I mean everyone tries to work somewhere at one point in time. Just happened to be From Software which was a company I liked their MO for design. Hardly anyone knew who they were for the most part which is why they were kinda surprised someone called them lol.
Im not too happy with the direction From took AC though. Since they literally turned it into Front Mission instead. SQEX should have hired them to make that front mission evolved or whatever title instead. Since at least From knows what they are doing when it comes to mech games. And obviously ACV pretty much turned into that lol.
A lot of the fans felt alienated with what happened to the series also. Then again I can understand from a business perspective why they did it, as the previous design the bar of entry was way too high. But they kinda wiped the slate in the wrong direction I think personally, but thats just me. They just should have kept the 2 separate the old and new designs with the game.
Currently Im still very interested in Experience Inc. as really would like to help them grow in the West. Anyways enough about me as am nothing special lol and back to
over the short clips!
