Predict the biggest B.O. bomb of summer 2014: Jupiter Ascending Delayed

I actually don't think there will be a massive bomb this year. Jupiter won't do that well in the US, but I think it'll do well enough internationally, and it has a LOT of international finance behind it.

The market is changing, everything is leveraged internationally much more, and there are fewer, bigger tentpoles, so there might actually be room.

That's actually a good point, with movies going international more and more, there's an increased chance of foreign markets saving them, especially china lately, but even with that I don't see Jupiter rising being saved by anyone.

I don't see GotG being a flop. It will probably do less than Captain America, but that's a sequel rather than something new (for movies).

I'm guessing Dawn of the Rise of the Battle for the Planet of the Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Jupiter Ascending.

There's a small chance TF4 and TMNT mat not do that well. But that might just be because I don't give a fuck about either.

But then there's a gaping hole because of the World Cup so clustered releases before and after might have some unforeseen casualties like 1989.

Jupiter Ascending bombs hardest.
Hercules bombs less.
Malificient makes very little but is profitable.
Lucy barely fails to make money.
A Million Ways to Die in the West is profitable, but not a hit.
Guardians of the Galaxy surprises with a meh opening but gets serious legs from word of mouth and lack of competition.
Edge of Tomorrow surprises less, makes no money.
Transformers makes buckets of money.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 makes buckets of money.
Sex Tape bombs despite the small budget.
TMNT makes back the budget but struggles to cover marketing.
Expendables 3 makes a good profit.
The Giver is a disappointment.
Sin City does ok.
22 Jump Street does ok.
Tammy makes respectable money.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes makes buckets of money.
Purge 2 makes less than Purge, but does ok.

It will do as well as Watchmen.

Edge of Tomorrow has Tom cruise who has a little gas left in the box office

Guardians has the marvel logo in front of it

Jupiter ascending will bomb the hardest. It will probably have the coolest action but good lord the trailer was shit, and the sheer indifference you could sense in the theatres when they played it too...

Wow, I had no idea Jupiter Ascending was releasing that soon. Does it at least look good? I haven't seen any trailers but I kinda dug Cloud Atlas.

As sad as it is to think, Jupiter Ascending will be the big bomb. Of course, it could ride the wave of popularity Channing Tatum has gotten lately, but I doubt it.

This. Real talk, if you're picking GOTG over Edge of Tomorrow/Jupiter Ascending, you are on the yayo. One of those is gonna eat it (my choice is obvious).

Jupiter is going to crater hard and will probably end up being the best tentpole this summer.

Da fuck Sculli
I liked Cloud Atlas and all but Channing Tatum on Akira rollerblades with a goatee=nobuys
and Sean Bean is in it so I already know he dies in like the first 10 seconds of the movie

Jupiter Ascending.

There's a reason the Wachowski Siblings are supposedly pushing for a Matrix Reboot/Remake.

I would hope to hell Maleficent bombed as well but looks like it will at least make its money back.

I want some of whatever the people say Maleficent and GotG are smoking. Maleficent is already not a bomb and GotG is a Marvel film, there's no way it's going to bomb.

If I had to wager a guess, probably Hercules or Jupiter Ascending. Have we even seen a trailer for Herc yet?

So what is Jupiter Ascending about again? I just only heard of this movie. I don't think i even saw a trailer for it.

Besides the obvious Jupiter, I gotta say A Million Ways to Die in the West. Horrible reviews, little to no market-appeal...

If it bombs it will be concrete proof that The Lone Ranger killed off the Western genre (even western comedies) once and for all.

my best blockbusters of the summer prediction tho:

1. X-Men
2. Edge of Tomorrow
3. Jupiter Ascending
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
5. Cap 2
lol. Godzilla

Besides the fact that a large segment of the moviegoing/television-watching public likes that guy's sense of humor even at it's lowest - the movie only cost $40 million. It's probably going to make $30 in its opening weekend. Even if it drops like a rock in its 2nd weekend, it's going to clear profit by the time it leaves theaters worldwide.

And my earlier guess about Sin City is probably wrong based on the same math. Rodriguez probably didn't go north of 60 mil to make A Dame to Kill For, if that. (Machete Kills cost 20, for example, Sin City cost 40) so it would have to do Grindhouse numbers (30 mil domestic) to be considered a bomb.

I don't think it's going to do well at all, but I don't know that it's gonna open to less than 20 mil opening weekend, either.

Jupiter Ascending looks like its budget is 150mil. Meaning this thing should be well north of 200 in order to be looked at as a success. 200 is lukewarm. 150 is bad. 100 is awful. Anything south of 100 is going to be disastrous.

I hope that Transformers 4 bombs so badly. That cringeworthy trailer came right up before X-Men started in the cinema.
Even the Planet of the Apes trailer was more intriguing. Hell, even the Red Bull ad was better.
Sorry for the rant...

OT, I think what will bomb is Maleficient.

If we discount world wide box office, Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been a huge domestic bomb compared to all the other ones.

I would like to say that Transformers 4 will be a box office bomb, but I have this feeling that it won't given that the rest of the series has all managed to make $800 million plus worldwide. Ninja Turtles might be a bomb though.

Not really sure what other movies are coming out this summer, though.

That's because the first Apes movie was really damn awesome.

It's on track to make 70-80 million this weekend, it's not going to bomb

dat goalpost

I wasn't trying to change any goalpost. The movie still did well enough world wide, even though it is the worst performing Spider-Man movie at the box office to date. But Sony Pictures must not be happy with how this movie is performing in North America, given how much money they sunk into its advertising budget over here. The movie was knocked out of its number one spot by an R rated Seth Rogen comedy after its first week, and has been trailing behind it ever since. I don't think it is unfair to say that ASM2 is a flop domestically, even though it did well world wide.

People saying Maleficient, as reports of its OW almost guaranteed to be higher than even tracking was saying come in, is amusing.

A bomb is a major disappointment, but not every disappointment is a "bomb". Bare minimum, a bomb should have a domestic gross less than its budget. That's not Spidey.
