Because it looks cool, and it finally gave Luigi an interesting role in an RPG. Mr. L is just brainwashed Luigi, so having it as an alt costume isn't as weird as, say, Marth/Lucina, where it's a totally different person.
I actually think he's a poor choice for an alt and would prefer something else if we had to have one, but he's at least not the weirdest one from Project M.
I LOVE watching his combos, one of my favorite PM players to watch. But his aggressive attitude gets him gimped so often it can be frustrating too. He's so inconsistent, it ain't healthy to be a fan.

Mr. L is about the only alt Luigi could have - except maybe Peach's dress like in Superstar Saga. Which would still look less abnormal than Meta Knight's alt.
Really, though, Luigi is fine with just palette swaps. Mr. L would be a neat addition, but I won't be too disappointed if he's not in.
So, I'm not thrilled about non-passive bosses appearing in the middle of fights and altering the dynamic of the game, but according to the quote from Sakurai in the above article, there won't be an option to disable such fights.
This means that certain stages are essentially "ruined" due to the fact that a boss will appear at some point to disrupt the fight.
I really, REALLY hope there are only 2-3 stages with bosses. I've been ecstatic for this game for so long, but the notion that awesome stages could be ruined by stage bosses is quickly deflating my excitement.

She only uses one hand in all of these. Of course, there is the possibility that the tennis racket now has a unique animation. I just think it is more likely that she only uses a tennis racket now.
In Brawl and Melee, she would use both hands for everything (tennis racket, golf club, frying pan).
You can also see Peach's dress split at the front during the animation of the attack cause clothing physics.
It seems like she loses momentum from the initial dash in the slowed down version, but she actually doesn't. The animation seems to be similar to her speed-walking animation where she starts skipping.
Peach has a real double jump again!
In Brawl, her double jump was more like a short hop, maybe even worse than that. This is a straightforward and welcome change.

Meh. That's nice for a change of pace if you want to play FD, but merely changing the aesthetics doesn't alter the fact you're still playing on a small, relatively small platform with nothing else.
For example, the Wiley Castle stage with the moving platforms had me really excited about playing that stage. The Yellow Devil quickly changed that.
It would be nice to have an option between "extremely intrusive boss" and "absolutely no platforms."
I'm really not a fan of super intrusive stage hazards, but I also really don't care for Final Destination. Final Destination mode is a pretty poor band-aid in this regard and I really hope he doesn't use it as an excuse to skimp on proper neutral-ish stages.
Hmm, Level-5 likes them some Nintendo, but does Nintendo like them back? Sure, avatar bet that there will be Professor Layton representation in Smash. Not for E3 though, for the final game. If I lose, I'll wear whatever avatar you choose from the release of 3DS version until the release of Wii U version.

Yep. While it's certainly odd that we haven't seen it, having a unique animation for one of the three variations of the attack is the kind of flourish they seem to enjoy adding this time around.

I know EXACTLY how you feel abd I agree 100%. I was looking forward Willy's Castle and Phyrosphere, but the bosses really put a damper on that excitement. It's the same deal as with stages like Wario Ware in Brawl, where the minigames got to a point where they were really annoying to deal with and you'd want to turn them off. The FD/"For Glory" is a terrible way to "fix" this, where a stage hazard (or at least something to disable bosses) would've been way preferable, and maybe even easier to implement.
The good news is, with each iteration leaving out a relatively simple but seemingly obvious option, the next version can add that.
Kind of like Pokemon and being able to use CUT by pressing A, or making radar better (or then again, worse in the newer version(s)?). Or bike improvements over time.
Last time, there was no tripping option. This time, perhaps the common complaint will be people wanting a battefield version of all maps (rather than a final destination version), and wanting a no-boss toggle option.
If I recall, this interview is kind of old. By the time, boss appareances weren´t officially anounced, although we had seen glimpses of yellow devil in the E3 Direct. I think Sakurai was referring to more common stage hazards, like the shy guys in Yoshi Story or the Airwings in Corneria. I kind of expect a boss off option, given the nature os such flow-changing mechanic. In some way, the bosses work of similar to Final Smashes, driving away the focus of the battle.
Still, maybe Sakurai sees the Final Destination Form as the alternativa for players who don´t wish to face bosses every single time. The two stages were bosses were confirmed already have their For Glory forms announced (Willy Castle and Pyrosphere).

I'm going to be so disappointed if half the stages have actual bosses on them that can't be disabled. And again, I have nothing against passive hazards - but bosses like the Yellow Devil just change the game entirely.
One thing about stage hazards is that they're pretty linked into the structure of the stage. In the direct, Stage Bosses got their own section, and nothing was mentioned about stage hazards in general. Hold on to hope that Stage Bosses are a completely separate thing, and we might get the option to turn those off, since they seem less integrated into the stage.

There is not even a boss confirmed for Pyrosphere. And even if Ridley is the boss there, we don't know what the hell he will be doing during the matches.
Anyway, since there are FD forms for the stages, I am actually hoping most of them have hazard/bosses. I think they add a lot to the matches.

I hope you're right. He did specifically mention hazards, and not bosses, so maybe there will be an option. I REALLY hope there is.
And as someone else mentioned, FD variants aren't really a remedy - it's just FD with a different paint job. Players should be able to experience the complexities of the finely crafted stages without massive bosses spawning at random intervals to completely interrupt the fight.
They are the same. The game kind of teases you the whole way with it and Brawl's trophy plays with it, but the final battle and the scene preceding it confirms they are.

Sakurai said in the Direct, "boss characters will make appearances in other stages, not just this one [Wily's]." As he said that, he showed a shot of Pyrosphere with Ridley's shadow swooping across. The way I see it, that's as close to a confirmation as you can get without explicitly saying, "Pyrosphere has a boss."
To your second point: hazards, yes, bosses, no. Most Smash stages in the past have had hazards of some sort - it's one of Smash's distinguishing features - so it would be disappointing if most of the stages this time around were hazard-free (from what we've seen, fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.) Bosses, however, are a whole different animal. I suppose I should reserve judgment until we know more about them, but they look obtrusive enough that it would really take away from the experience if more than one or two stages had bosses.

Fair point, but we still don't know who the boss in the Pyrosphere is and if the boss is Ridley (I don't thin he is, if he was, Sakurai would have revealed he as a boss in the Smash Direct), we don't know what kind of stuff he will do during the matches.
About the bosses: Again, there are FD forms of the stages. If the bosses are as annoying as you make they seem to be, just play in the FD form of the stages. It is simple. That said, I don't suppose the majority of stages will have bosses.
