For me and many others I trust E3 is about big shows by MS / Sony / UBI / EA etc, its exciting, and there maybe 50 or so new games / reveals / things we have not seen - new gimmicks / peripherals...on console and PC space...

And then there will be a video by Nintendo showing latest version of Smash and Zelda or a couple of games we sort of already know about...

If you cannot see the disparity here then fair enough - but its so large Mr P is just having a laugh at the obvious elephant in the room.

But your original post said you didn't know what Nintendo is doing and you didn't want to dig for that information? So which is it? Do you feel like you already know what they're gonna do and don't care, or do you have no idea and don't feel like they're communicating that well enough?

What Nintendo IS doing is:

- A approximately hour long live-streamed digital event where they will announce their plans for the Wii U and 3DS for 2014 and beyond, speaking directly to their fans and others, cutting the middle-man (the press). The only difference between this and a press conference is no live audience and erasing the word "press" from the equation.
- 20+ hours of livestreaming from the showfloor, showing demos, developers interviews and such.
- A Super Smash Bros. Invitational Tournament, the first in the company's history, regrouping some of the best Smash players of the planet to showcase Wii U's biggest game of 2014. 3+ hours of nothing but Smash Bros. Wii U gamaplay.
- Giving the opportunity to the public to play a Super Smash Bros. Wii U demo at select Best Buys in the US and Canada.

I wouldn't call that being "irrelevant at E3".

Since it seems nobody has answered you yet, I "like" Pachter because he is one of the few people out there admitting that Nintendo needs to do something because the Wii U is not working and the 3DS isn't attracting like their previous handhelds have. Most people have a "it'll be fine, it's Nintendo" attitude. Believe me, I have as much E3 hype for Nintendo as the most hyped hype-ee on the hype train, but things are not fine with Nintendo. They need to stop being stubborn and do something.

What I don't like about him are videos like this. His comments about parties are completely unnecessary in this situation. Want to make a video about memories of E3 parties? Cool, do that. But using the fact that there is no actual press conference this year to emphasize that Nintendo has had to cut back (which is just an assumption on my part since he did not make that clear at all) isn't getting your point across. Pachter needs to stop talking about himself in these videos. Yes, you need to make it entertaining, but you can make facts entertaining. We're not a dumb audience.

Another thing I'm not a fan of is anytime he mentions how he believes Nintendo should go third party, he almost always brings up something like putting Mario on an iPhone, and then people latch to it and won't let go. The discussion over Nintendo giving up hardware completely revolves around the idea of Nintendo on mobile, rather than Nintendo as a third party in general. I'm a huge Nintendo fan, and have grown up right along with them, owning every console they've put out from the NES to the Wii U. I'm also a huge supporter of Nintendo ceasing all hardware manufacturing and becoming a pure games studio and publisher and going third party. I do not get what is wrong with this. I think that is a topic worth discussing, but one of the few guys who actually brings that topic up always blows it by talking about Nintendo on mobile and not the bigger picture.

So I guess it boils down to me thinking Pachter is a dude who has some good thoughts, but doesn't know how to express them properly without pissing people off. I'm cool if people don't like Pachter, what I'm not cool with is people who pretend like everything is fine with Nintendo and this will all blow over.

I think he knows a little bit about the US and video game industry at large, if he didn't somebody else would take his job. If you think you can do better feel free to apply to Wedbush Securities/GameTrailers because clearly you know so much more about Nintendo and markets than this guy.

I'm taking most of the Pachter bashing with a grain of salt because most of the people typing insensitive/delusional things are just mad some middle aged man said mean things about their favorite video game company. Good post, I agree with you except differ in that I like Pachter. He has a flaw I see in myself in that he makes a good argument and see things well.

But he gets bored repeating himself and eventually the sarcasm / wit and humour comes out. I get it and I do the same, and it can piss people off.

Go back a year or 2 and his message on Big N was the same but more serious.

Smash is definitely there as they've made a huge event out of it. No word on Zelda. Nintendo's Best Buy demos have been really successful for them in the past here in the States; it's no wonder they'd want to do another one.

This man gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (maybe millions, who knows) to analyze not only individual companies such as Sony, MS, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, etc; but also the entire video game industry as a whole. He didn't just bullshit his way into this position, the guy is obviously good at what he does. Part of his job is to make predictions and being wrong sometimes comes with the territory of being an analyst, some people can't wrap their heads around that concept though an expect everything that comes out of his mouth to be a fact.

Every time I read about N eventually the article starts chirping on about Quality of Life and they loose my attention as I don't like to be BS....d

I used to be a Wii only gamer, then we went to 2 x Ps3, then 2 x 360, now 2 x Ps4 in house and 2 x 50" TV's in game room. That makes me a big gamer in my eyes. And yet Big N lost me and my son about 5 years ago. Shame.

I don't get the gamepad - I want to watch my w905 cool TV when playing games, not a small shitty screen.

Do you think N will bring out a WiiU lite (pad less version) - something that's cheap that would make a cool second console.

I used to be a Wii only gamer, then we went to 2 x Ps3, then 2 x 360, now 2 x Ps4 in house and 2 x 50" TV's in game room. That makes me a big gamer in my eyes. And yet Big N lost me and my son about 5 years ago. Shame.

I don't get the gamepad - I want to watch my w905 cool TV when playing games, not a small shitty screen.

Do you think N will bring out a WiiU lite (pad less version) - something that's cheap that would make a cool second console.

Wrong. Everyone including Nintendo fans do see it. The latter just don't give a shit week in and week out. Nintendo's situation isn't as near as bad as Sony or MS fucking up last generation and yet the fallout feels magnitudes worse.

There were people shitting on Nintendo even during the Wii/DS era. That doesn't make them right but rather broken records who didn't get their way. Now that Nintendo actually did mess up they're out in full force. Bitter PS3 fans perhaps. You can tell who they are when they demand Nintendo go 3rd party.

It sucks that Wii didn't get a lot of software 2011-2012. However, it already had a good run and lots of great games but 3DS was in trouble. So why put Nintendo on blast for doing the smart thing?

My statement was about Nintendo know how, not industry wide trends. Why we shifting here? And since the video was about E3, an event happening in less than a week, not knowing what the company you are currently talking about is doing at said event, despite the press releases and videos they've released about it, does come off as a bit ignorant. So in the end I still agree with myself.
