WOW this is how you do a trailer!!!! Never played a Witcher game but I'm suddenly HYPED. Favorite part is right after CD Projekt Red presents... Best trailer I've seen in years!

Outside of Persona 5 it'll probably be at least half a year before I even care about another game again once this hits.
This trailer even deflated my hype for E3, nothing will touch it.
I'm still amazed by how unbelievably ambitious this game is.
I hope it pays off for them, would be great to see this game sell like crazy.

You seriously think the PS4 version will run better than on your PC?

I seriously think it would run smoother without me adjusting graphics settings for each new area I go to, just to have it run at a steady fps. My CPU is the bottleneck and some CPU intensive games don't run well on it despite my gpu.

I didn't realize this but pre-ordering on GOG now already nets you with some bonus goodies...Unless it's old stuff?

Still, that's fucking great.

Sooooo, that was a pretty great trailer.

They've completely overhauled the combat system, haven't they? Of what I've seen and heard from others (on Gaf, mostly), the combat system in TW2 isn't anything flash at all.

Actually.. they have said. They said the combat will be similar to Arkham games and there will be a learning curve. They tried to do W2 combat as Demons Souls/Dark souls and they realized it was really brutal/not fitting for their game.

I dont have a link right now, but Im pretty sure I read it on W3 forums.
I've heard that as well but TW2 didnt turn out to be very demon/dark soulsish. I'll wait until a demo is out to see how it is.

At release it had some similarities, nothing too heavy though. There was a stamina bar and you had to play more defensive by rolling and blocking, if you were too offensive you'd die almost immediately.

I think I'm one of the few people who liked TW2's combat from the start. My only problems at release were minor hitbox inconsistencies and choppy animation, but those were almost completely remedied by updates. It's a lot of fun to play, and provides many options for different combat styles. You can pretty much create your own class of hero despite not having class options listed outright.

The only major battle I remember giving me grief was the dragon. I thought she was poorly designed and the range of her attacks weren't well communicated. That's the only part of the game I had to tweak difficulty for.

Man what happened to team Shani?

People always forgetting bout Shani.

Team Shani here. I want her in the game so badly but I don't want it spoiled in any trailers.

The day-after cycle:

*watching the trailer*
"Holy crap, this is amazing".
*few minutes later*
"Damn, that was incredibly good good. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating things a bit. I should probably keep my cool and watch it again"
*watching the trailer again"
"HOLY CRAP, THIS IS SERIOUSLY AMAZING".

that's more or less what I'm doing in loop.

So true.

I'm watching this trailer an unhealthy amount of times.

I think the combat is a lot of fun and challenging to play, but it looks stupid as hell with geralt constantly turning his back to his enemies and rolling every 5 seconds. I believe backstepping is confirmed for tw3, so im really not worried about it.

Yeah I have a friend in Canada who can't find anything and had to do the same with US Gamestop.

Gotta be honest, this is gorgeous. I've never played a Witcher game, but I just might be tempted to pick this one up.

This game looks really good. I think I own Witcher 1/2 on PC but alas, backlog. From what I understand, the studio who does these games makes them look and play really good and doesn't take forever to release them. Also, seems they do so on a much smaller budget then the visuals would indicate. Share them secrets with SE would ya!

Here's a crazy idea. With the soldiers of the Wild Hunt having metal masks/helmets like that, what if Dr. Doom is related to them somehow? Extremely doubtful but it's fun to think of. His mask is way too human looking in comparison anyway and he's slightly too overdressed for that kind of part.

...February is too far away.

I actually like vanilla Witcher 2's combat much more than that big semi-official combat mod they put out. It's not a great combat system by any means, suffering from fairly poor hit detection and a lack of direct control over Geralt's attacks. You can press the attack button once and have Geralt go flipping across the screen to attack a random guy, but sometimes you'll take unavoidable damage from the four guys you pass on the way there. They copied the very basics of Batman's combat without any of the more complicated mechanics that make Batman work. There's also an issue with input lag, or maybe just animation priority; either way, you need to hammer the buttons a few times to get Geralt to respond. You can eventually learn to make it work for you, though, and it didn't take long before I was Witching dudes up like a champ.

The combat mod feels like it fixes a little bit of the animation priority, so you only have to hammer the buttons for half as long before Geralt takes the hint; it still doesn't feel very responsive. Now Geralt will automatically block attacks as long as you aren't attacking, and like all games with that mechanic it never really works because who just wants to stand there doing nothing? They replaced the roll with a pirouette, but Geralt doesn't pirouette as far as he rolls so you have to pirouette twice to get the distance you used to get. Essentially, the combat mod makes combat a matter of just spinning and spinning and spinning in wide circles around a group of enemies, occasionally going for an attack and usually getting hit a couple of times on the way in and out. People complained about the roll, roll, roll, attack nature of the vanilla game, but at least rolling could get you in and out of the fray relatively unscathed.

The mod unfortunately screws with much more than just the combat, too. It drastically decreases the number of weapons and armours you can get, which spoils a good deal of the RPG loot lust. You can wear the same stripey shirt from Foltest's camp all the way through the game. It also totally changes the leveling system and all the perks you get along the way, making it impossible to hit the max level and encouraging you to stick to one branch of the Sword/Magic/Alchemy tree rather than dabbling. It's definitely not something I'd recommend to first-time players, or even second-time players for that matter. I played the Roche path vanilla and the Iorveth path with the mod, and I feel like I need to play the Iorveth path again because I missed all the neat stuff you get.

The Witcher 3 and then Persona 5 probably coming out within one year. And then Beast Souls.

Can life get any better for a fan of RPGs?

Edit: The answer is yes, with games like X on the horizon :]

The time of the White Frost and the White Light,
The time of Madness and Disdain, Tedd Deireádh,
The Final Age.

From a book in The Witcher.

Ithlinne's Prophecy
"An old elven prophecy about the end of the world: "The Wolf's Blizzard approaches, the time of the sword and axe. The Time of the White Frost and White Light, the Time of Madness and Disdain, Tedd Deireadh, the Final Age. The world will perish amidst ice and be reborn with the new sun. Reborn of the Elder Blood, of Hen Ichaer, of a planted seed. A seed that will not sprout but burst into flames!"

Ithlinne, an elven prophetess, is famous for her foretelling of the end of the world. According to her prophecy, the world will be destroyed by an ice age and all humans will die. The only survivors will be elves, saved by an offspring of the Elder Blood, known also as the Swallow. Several signs will herald the destruction of the world, and the cataclysm will begin when elven blood soaks the earth. This will mark the advent of the 'Time of Disdain, the Axe and the Wolf's Blizzard', which can be interpreted as a long war or a return to barbarism."

This was also Grand Master Jacques de Aldersberg's prophetic vision and fear, and what he was trying to prevent.

I really like the helmet design of the guy on the right. He's an exception to the whole skullface theme

I have to question the functionality of the ribcage thing unless there's proper armor underneath and it's an extra buffer against blunt damage

Could be a black dude, I don't think the series has many (or any?), and it would be nice to see a badass bald black guy with those graphics.

The only one I remember is Azar Javed from W1.

Though I wouldn't hold your hopes for more since the games happen in the north and he hailed from the south.

Jesus, that was amazing. Can't believe it took me this long to see the thread.

That music was perfectly chosen. Really felt distinctive and unlike any other game trailer out there.
