If they make a sequel I am certain that the pacing will be addressed and judging from hellboy 2 I am hoping it will be glorious.

He already has an interesting world now he needs to show us more of it.I'm a fanatic of the movie and GDT but I hope to god he will show a better kaiju universe, it looks kinda rushed in part 1.

Got my hopes up for sequel news when I saw this thread on the front page :(

Watching this in IMAX 3D with my nieces and nephews is probably the most fun I've ever had in a cinema, what a movie.

Pacific rim is the best paced movie of its kind. It is insanely rewatchable because of this

Well we all know that Del Torro has said on record that he has lots of ideas for a sequel, I think I remember reading he had even started writing it already? So if they go to him being open for a sequel I can't for the life of me imagine he'd say no.

Del Toro is perhaps the busiest man in Hollywood. The guy has, in the works, Frankenstein, Haunted Mansion, It, Pet Semetary, Hater, an HBO pilot, a DC movie starring Constantine and Swamp Thing, Mountains of Madness, Slaughterhouse Five, and Drood.

Ten films. Add PR2 and it is 11.

Rewatched it and it's a lot more fun when you completely skip the sections between the intro and the Hong Kong fight, and also between the HK fight and the final battle. Anytime the Jaegers are not on the screen, there is precisely zero heart and soul in this movie.

WB should have given the job to Michael Bay. Action sequence would be full of garbage shaky cam footage, but the movie overall would have been watchable, the plot holes would be just as big, and the movie would have made enough money to warrant 2 sequels. GDT is probably the most overrated director in Hollywood.

Only watched this for the first time a couple weeks ago.

Fairly good film, but the actor selection was abysmal at every turn. Couldn't bring myself to care about anyone and kind of hoped they all died.

You'd still get plenty of of non-jeager scenes, TF3 was so long and frankly I lost hope with Bay's ability to make goood action scenes after that movie.

Finally watched this movie just now. It was amazing, but a live action Macross movie directed my Nolan would be better.

Been re-watching this in 3D on my new TV, and I'm hosting a Pacific Rim 3D party this Saturday at my new place. The movie really gets better with subsequent viewings. One concern about the 3D Blu-ray, however: It seems they encoded the Knifehead fight incorrectly, since for a minute or two the image seems out of alignment.

Other than that, the 3D in the Blu-ray is INCREDIBLE. Crisp, clear, vibrantly colorful. When the camera is level with the ocean, you think the water is going to spill right out of the screen. Scenes where the camera is close to the ground (like the Shatterdome, or Newt's lab) also show tremendous depth. The sense of height with the various top-down shots of the mechs is impressive, and of course the particle effects (rain, snow, etc) look lovely in 3D.

I'd love for GDT to remake Pan's Labyrinth and the two Hellboy movies in 3D, although I know it'd be a post-conversion and perhaps not as effective as a result.

Sounds great. I'm not a huge fan of the film but the 3d blu-ray price dropped to $14.99 on Amazon so I figured what the hell. Just got some 3d glasses for my projector and I figure it should be a nice experience for it.

Is this a known issue or maybe just your pressing?

I actually really like the character scenes in Pacific Rim. I like the comic booky representations of each country. It's fun. I actually felt some emotion too when the australian dad said goodbye to his son. Whole movie is dope screw the knee jerk critic haters. This movie also had the movie to not only destroy most of the Jaegers, but also a decent amount of main characters. There was real tension in the action because of that.

To add to what I wrote above, and to better describe the issue, when I say "out of alignment," I mean it looks "super-3D" -- the Knifehead sequence looks very "wide," so much so it's hard to focus. It's only that sequence, starting at the part where Knifehead rises back out of the water after Gipsy skull-bashes him, until around when Gipsy blasts him with the plasma cannon. Everything before and after that is flawless.

Just watched this movie for the very first time. Really really liked it. I would definitely say it's one of the best action movies I have seen in quite some time. I would totally support a sequel/prequel should they decide to make one.

Just caught this movie on a shitty non-HD HBO in a hotel room on a shitty TV and thoroughly enjoyed it and regret not seeing this in IMAX 3D.

Despite having read complaints about the fight scenes, I thought they were really well executed. Action was clear, cinematography was excellent, and the sense of size and mass were really manifested very well.

While you knew that the humans were going to win, I agree with another poster that GDT's willingness to sacrifice Jaegers and characters definitely intensified the battle scenes and still created a sense of suspense in how they were going to finish the battle.

While the plot has it's faults, like how Mako disappears as a character and how the sword wasn't used earlier (I've read about the Kaiju Blue angle already), I didn't find that these distracted from my enjoyment of the film at all; I watched it with a mindset more like a kid and loved it and loved the cheesiness. I also agree that there really wasn't a romantic subplot so people complaining about that are just nitpicking. His relationship for Mako is more like respect for a fighter and a comrade; definitely not romantic but I can see how people would try to self-impose that angle on the plot.

I do agree with the criticism that the two main leads weren't very strong, but the supporting cast was really fantastic and really added good depth for me to offset the below-par leads.

Here is the kicker: my wife, who would normally really not be interested in any movie like this, ended up staying up with me way past her bedtime to watch it with me and she agreed that it was a really fun movie with great action sequences.

GDT has developed a really interesting world here and it would be a shame not to explore it further. Both a prequel and a sequel could work and I'm eager to watch either. Would love to see the genesis of the Jaegers or see designs for more Kaijus. A prequel first in this case would really work well because it would allow a setup of the history, the science, and so on and develop the world a bit more for a sequel.

I think the most appropriate continuation would probably be a prequel cartoon

I have to to watch PR again but my general feeling is that PR was fun and never took itself too seriously, whereas Godzilla did and failed. They both suffer from boring white caricature military guy though.

TBQH this was much better than Godzilla 2014

Yeah, I've seen Godzilla twice and I agree that Pacific Rim is better in almost every way. After I last saw Godzilla I went home and popped in PR and watched it for comparison. It's more fun, better action and more of it, has a better soundtrack, has better characters, has more humor, is better paced, has a better script. It's just a better movie.

Saw this movie on HBO earlier this week and loved it. My immediate takeaway was that, if Pacific Rim had started as an anime, then this movie would be the best live-action adaption of an anime ever. I love how Del Toro balanced the campier elements and nods to the genre with the serious, big-budget feel. The movie didn't feel cartooney, but at the same time...it did. The result was a fun movie that, nevertheless, didn't feel cheap or like the director wasn't taking the material seriously.

My only complaint was that we didn't get much of a chance to see the other Jaegers and their crews in their element kicking ass before the battle at Hong Kong Bay. Would have made that fight all the more impactful and, besides that, those Jaegers and their crews seemed really cool.

I am hoping against hope this gets a sequel.

Yeah, that's also my biggest complaint with PR. I really wish there was an extended director's cut edition that added like half an hour or so to the movie. One that gave us more time with the other crews and some more footage of other fights too, even if they were just newscast footage. I guess I really just wanted more of Pacific Rim, lol.

PR music is awesome. Based Game of Thrones dude.

I missed the original Godzilla theme, but I understand why they wouldn't use it in the new film.

PR on IMAX 3D was one of the best movie experiences ever. The movie grabbed even right from the get go when the Kaiju makes contact with the Golden Gate Bridge. Dang, that was awesome.

The Bluray doesnt do it justice. It just reminds me of just how much it doesnt live up to the IMAX 3D experience :(

I watched it in IMAX 3D in Honolulu while on vacation and was glad I did. The irony is Godzilla was filming scenes in and around my resort that week as well.

Amen. It was awesome on IMAX.

Inception suffers the same fate too ;-;
