Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

The Order 1886 comes off as their attempt at something like Gears of War, but there is something off about the way they're selling it. I guess they need more pretext (why are you fighting, what the 'storyline' is) to get me excited about it. So far, they're just showing off how realistic it looks, and that's a good thing, but it isn't enough.

Compare that with Sunset Overdrive over on the MS side and at least they give you the backdrop of the 'world' and why you're playing it....MS has been very good at doing that for every game reveal since time immemorial.

When I first finished watching the MS show a few hours ago, I wasn't overtly impressed (other than with Sunset Overdrive) but after seeing Sony's show NOW, I am now impressed with MS; as conservative as they were, their show felt a lot more organized and substantial.

Sony will win with superior multiplatform ports but MS seems to be winning with the exclusive games.

MS: 8/10
Sony: 7/10.

And by the way, I own a PS4. Now I'm on the brink of getting an Xbone thanks to their show today.

Same. I'm waiting for the white xbox to come out but If it's not announced soon I may just bite on the kinectless black.

Sony A

It would be A+ except for the middle part dragged too long

EA C

Loved Dragon Age but too much concept

UBISOFT B

Love Far Cry and AC

Microsoft B

Great show but didn't change the narrative.

8/10. It had lower lows than MS's, mainly the tv section and facts montage.

But, it had FANTASTIC gameplay segments, excellent game trailers like MGSV, Uncharted 4, and basically I felt it had higher highs than MS's.

But honestly I think both conferences this year were great.

is it fair to give points to Sony for games that will also be on the Xbone?

This was a weak conference. It was clear to me that Sony did not have 2 hours worth of game-related content to fill the conference.

Bloodborne leaking so far in advance really hurt the conference, I think. The Order's gameplay demo was very weak and damning to that game; it reinforced everyone's worse fears that it is a "movie game".

It's also clear that much of Sony's first and second party content is just not ready to be shown.

Batman, No Man's Sky, and Far Cry 4 saved the conference from being a total waste.

79% Sony
71% Microsoft
64% Ubisoft
46% EA

Sony won clearly but would have been significantly better without boring comic book guy, TV shows and boring stats. Also what the heck was going on with that double Vib Ribbon mention not turning into an announcement. I mean that was just so odd.

The pacing hurt sony, but in terms of things shown, it absolutely killed MS. Though, I don't really care for FPS so the halo and COD segments had me bored to tears. I'm very excited for LBP3, Uncharted 4, Blood Borne and all those indie games!

That TV and network crap needs to be scrapped from future conferences. If you MUST keep it, do not give it more than 10 minutes max.

The press conference was 7/10 for me until Uncharted 4 showed up. Notched it up to 8/10.

By the way, the cheering sounded so fake, I was with other guys on chatroom and we all said a lot times "why are they cheering, man ?!".

Bullshit. Don't make me avatar quote you.

"Game after game" except for the 45 minutes of droning. The first half was strong, but then they completely killed the momentum with garbage PR in the second half.

Last Guardian is still probably dead and I don't care what Sony says.

You can Avatar quote all you want it wont change the fact that fact that what i said was spot fucking on.

Sony killed this show. TLG was the only thing really missing.

I was somewhat disappointed by the conference. Lots of nebulous release dates and delays, with vague promises of the moon. Nothing new or WOW. Some of the indies looked great, but I'm not buying a PS4 for those.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought Sony's presentation was boring and too long. I laughed at one point when they kept talking about how it's "all about the gamer"...That was said like three times during a 25 minute span where they showed NO games!

To be quite honest, both console makers pretty much showed me I'm fine with my ps3 for another year (as any of the games that looked interesting to me won't even be out until 2015 earliest).

Ehhhh...

Sony: B
Microsoft: B

Sony was def hurt by the leaks.
LBP3 out of nowhere was awesome, Bloodborne with no leaks would've destroyed GAF

And also a leaked MGS V Trailer.

Could've also done without the giant segment of nothing,

Well that was dissapointing.
The only cool thing was Bloodborne.

Boring third party showing, lots of uninteresting talk (bla bla ps now, bla bla lots of people have shared shit, bla bla Tv show because clearly everyone loved that about MS X1 reveal, etc).

PS: Also, what the hell happened to drake. He looks NOTHING like in uncharted 1-3

The third party stuff was even worse with MS. At least Sony didn't spend as much time on it

+ Uncharted 4: The Thief's End
+ LBP 3
+ Bloodborne
+ Entwined
+ Grim Fandango remake
+ Devolver games
+ Ratchet & Clank Redux
+ No Man's Sky
+ PS TV

- Absolutely nothing for Vita
- Already shown games (Far Cry and Battlefield)
- No Last Guardian (I don't believe this game is in development)
- Nothing Japanese. No jrpg's.
- No Japan Studio
- Nothing for this year but LBP 3
- (not Sony's fault but) No single player DLC for GTA5
- No mention PS2 & PSone remasters for PS4

8/10

From Software is Japanese.

All in all I think it was a pretty good press conference. They faltered in the middle, a lot. But they picked themselves back up towards the end. Overall MS had the better press conference and better games, but I still gotta give it to Sony cause the hype levels during some of the reveals were just to crazy.

Haven't watched the full Sony conference yet but UC4 looks incredible, and have to admit grim fandango remaster made me sort of tear up a bit. I love love love that game, glad a whole new generation can play it.

I'll say this, Sony's exclusives didn't appeal to me last gen, they aren't appealing to me in this current gen. Little Big Planet 3 doesn't appeal to me, The Order doesn't appeal to me, Uncharted 4 doesn't appeal to me. Felt very safe, that if you liked what Sony did in the past, you'll like what they're doing now.

So. What happened to the vita?

Stack the games up and there was more here at this conference than at MSFT's show. I think they both had solid show but Playstation wins with brute force in games. Magicka 2, Grim Fandango, Bloodbourne, No Mans Sky, and the rest speak for themselves. 3rd party games being best on PS4 also are a chip to lean on. But even with that, 8/10 for MSFT, 9/10 for Sony.

I agree. I thought Sony had the better line-up of more intriguing and exciting games. LBP3, Bloodbourne, Grim Fandango (!). The gameplay footages were brilliant as well. They had an extremely lull and dull moment in with the new CEO but it doesn't take away from what I felt was a fantastic beginning and a decently solid end.

MS had Kamiya, Sony had Bloodborne. It's a draw for me.

I have a lot more faith on pedigree of FROM than Platinum as I've only cared for Vanquish. On the trailers, they both look good though. This could be one of the first Platinum games I buy day 1.

It's nice Sony had the exclusive opportunity to show games at their conference, but it doesn't really help them, when many of the games aren't exclusive.

It's a reversal of the 360 E3 days really

Yep, Nintendo has already won for me. I'm way more hyped for Zelda U than literally everything MS and Sony showed combined, and that's not mentioning stuff like Smash and whatever else Nintendo has to offer. I'm not a fan of shooters, and most of the stuff I might like they showed barely anything of or has been known for a long time. Nintendo would have to screw up big time for me not to like digital event the most

I'm willing to bet you Zelda isn't shown.

If sony's conference was good then i'm clearly not into gaming as much anymore as I feel like i'm a minority in this. I thought it was garbage, 5/10 at best. If they cut out all the bs this would have been a 45 minute conference and i would have bumped it up to a 6 or 7. But nah.

Nothing new, really. Bunch of CGI trailers like microsoft but at least they had a steady pace. 2015 etc..

Not expecting much from Nintendo's conference, Smash hype, zelda hype and that's pretty much it.

Microsoft: B-
EA: F+
Ubisoft: C+
Sony: C

It was, decent. Too many CGI trailers just like Microsoft, and barely any exclusives. The few exclusives they did show, I'm not interested in. The Order was once again with a QTE, and more scripted bull crap. Destiny is still Borderlands to me, so I'm not hyped for that either. The only thing I got hyped for, was Uncharted 4. Even that was a CGI trailer though. Then that dreadful multimedia/VR talk that dragged for too long.

So yeah, I didn't like it.

Sony 7/10-they could had been 10/10 if they trimmed some things down.
EA 2/10-I don't care about sports games, etc etc
Ubisoft-8/10 just a really fun conference. Best of today
Microsoft-7.5/10 I liked their whole games only approach but nothing really wowed me since I knew all those games where coming.

I'm bummed nobody liked the Order :( but I knew it was not a neogaf game sadly. Sigh. I hope people can admire its beauty though... People still crafted all those visuals from scrap, their first console IP!
Looked nice. Just played kind of boring.

Overall this conference was on par with MS. Nothing to get overly excited about. Purely "solid".

Though batman got me to sit up.
