Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

My rankings:

Microsoft: B+. They had games, they had biggish games, they put them out one after another. It was well paced, they had surprises. I am more interested in the Xbone after this conference. A new Phantom Dust, fucking whaaaat? They also didn't try to make "exclusive content" mean anything. They didn't try to make "console debuts" mean anything. They knew what mattered.

lol, what?!

MS was exactly the same, every video had a banner telling you what was exclusive to it.

Yikes, lots and lots and lots of gore and violence :-p But some lovely looking Indie games, and Little Big Planet 3 looked cute. Guess the days of quirky or anime inspired Japanese games being a main draw of a PlayStation console are over though, with AAA gore and violence as the main draw now. Unless they're gory Japanese games though! With that said, Batman Arkham Knight was the most interesting for me, action and gadgetry without such repulsive gore as the other games. So that's what I'll keep an eye on.

Facts:
Sony showed 22 games. (MS 22)
10 exclusives. (MS 10)
8 new announcements. (MS 6)

That is, if I counted right. (Reels and DLC counted as one. MS had 1 indie reel. Sony had indie and f2p reel)

Sony's was a lot longer though right? It felt like a whole 30 minutes longer.

Started strong but really dragged in e middle and never got the momentum back. Sony really needs to keep some of those executive off the stage.

- Mortal Kombat - Cool but Multiplat
- MGSV - Cool but Multiplat
- No Last Guardian
No FF Versus XIII
No KH3
Uncharted 4...yawn, and it wasn't even gameplay
Destiny looks boring. Even Call of Duty this year looks more exciting
Far Cry 4 looks boring as well. More of the same.
Infamous Second Son and Shadow Fall DLC....no thanks.
That $10 indie game where you use both analog sticks looked cool
No Man's Sky looks cool as well
Hotline Miami 2 - Cool but on PC
Last of Us and GTAV remasters are nice..especially GTAV adding traffic
Too much movie and comic book talk

3/10

"Mimimi no TLG everything else is shit. Everything at E3 was shit. I hate games."

After Nintendo Feature: "Boo did you see that... so boring no games. Hate that Zelda artstyle. Why don´t they make games the way i dream about them?!"

Sincerly,
NeoGaf

Yup, the cynicism is crazy.

MS spends most of their time on third party stuff. Shows games years out (in CGI) and that's awesome

Sony shows off a few multiplats, shows a bunch of new excluives, including one for this year, shows only 2014/2015 stuff and it's crap..

Ummmmm ... yea.

Much better than Microsoft's presentation. A bunch of awesome shit I want to buy (and about 30 minutes I didn't care about). It was a little rough during the superhero TV show, but I think it was redeemed by being free with Plus.

Still, seeing games like Abzu, all the Devolver games, No Mans Sky, at a major venue is great and gives me hope for the industry.

Surprised I didn't see: The Witness

LOL at all the bellyaching.

What the hell were people expecting? I'll admit disappointment in the lack of TLG but aside from that, the showing was very impressive.

VIB RIBBON

THEY MENTIONED IT FUCKING TWICE

ONCE WITH A COMPLETE SCREEN IMAGE

what the hell man

They showed a lot more than MS, and had much less third party stuff on.

I didn't mention MS at all in my remarks, I don't care what they showed. Sony's, regardless of what MS did, was terrible, especially if you want to play something this year on the system that you can't get other places.

E3 in general gets a failing grade from me. Microsoft had a solid conference, but it was fairly safe. The one thing that made me sit up was Ori, and that's coming to PC.

EA's conference I could have missed and the only thing I would have cared about was not snagging the Battlefield beta.

Ubisoft is a rotten company and I'm pretty sure I can skip most of their content going forward. I've seen politicians that are more honest. The one redeeming feature was Valiant Hearts.

The only thing Sony showed that pleased me was Entwined. But everything else was either available on PC (where it will be cheaper and better looking) or just didn't interest me. The exception was Metal Gear Solid V. Where was Wipeout? Shadow of the Beast? The Last Guardian? Tekken? Not even thinking about the sluggish middle with the TV talk and all the pointless statistics.

Not feeling too great about having plonked down a fair bit of cash into that ecosystem. There's certainly nothing coming this year bar DriveClub that has me paying attention. Consoles, in general, seem pointless these days. To be honest, while I enjoy Metal Gear Solid, it's something I could live without. Should have just put the money into buying a 780 or something.

Oh well, at least eventually there will be Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV.

Pros :
Little Big Planet 3 this year.
Uncharted 4 appears to be less fucked than I anticipated.
No Man's Sky, man. Like... woah man.
Far Cry 4 actually looks quite cool, game sharing is interesting (though I am skeptical)
Devolver Montage
Grim Fandango
Grand Theft Auto V. On PC too!
The Giant Squid game looks very solid. And it's on PC too!

Cons:
Not a lot of exclusive new things.
I don't give a fuck about Bloodborne
Arkham Knight - It's Batman, Again!
Dead Island 2.. No thank you.
Really, more Battlefield Hardline, thanks.
A lot of dumb exclusive content promises.
FUCK POWERS. FUCK THAT. NO. GET OFF THE STAGE
OH MY GOD WHY ARE YOU STILL TALKING

B+
I enjoyed watching it more than MS, but it failed to make me want to buy a PS4. Unlike Microsoft's conference, where Crackdown & Halo Collection are actually a motivating force for me.

Could have done without the Bendis segment and the stuff on Powers. This wasn't the time for that. Everything else was good for me as a Sony fan. It's either a 7 or an 8 out of 10, because LBP3 was unexpected, The Order looked great, Bloodborne finally revealed, Uncharted 4 for reassurance and No Mans Sky blew me away.

Edit:

Probably bumping it up to an 8.

Sony wins. They had an awesome 1st party showing, and nearly every big 3rd party game showed up. To any 'casual' viewer PS4 'has all the big games!' they want to play + much moar.

and let's not forget Project Morpheus, which leaves MS and Nintendo completely ass-out.

Sony 'won' E3 by a landslide.

Holy shit my sides XD

Aside from the one game you keep mentioning (Uncharted) as a rehashed sequel versus the unique, superior, completely original AC: Unity that doesn't borrow in any way from its predecessors, there were many other exclusives mentioned. There weren't only rehashes and sequels, but a number of original and exclusive IPs were shown.

AC: Unity looks great, yes, but you're full of it if you think it's without similar elements to previous installments.

AC: Unity does look great, and it serves contemplation and thought provoking gameplay, while Uncharted will be more run and gun and auto-platforming.

Sony actually had surprises, which gives them the win. Much better announcements than MS's somewhat bland conference. But HOLY CRAP at the non-games talk with YouTube announcements, R&C movie and the Powers show. That felt like an eternity. The last half of the show, sans Mortal Kombat/Batman/Uncharted was so bad.

Kind of a disappointing E3 this year. Bah.

Sony still doesn't know how to make a good show.

Cut like 20 minutes (pref. The TV show part), make better transitions and tell the presenters to do half the amount of jokes instead.

reporters from cnet, wall street journal, etc. are there so they kinda had to show those shit.

i know, it's not the most gamer-centric thing but at least plus subs will get powers for free, and the movie is actually about a video game and not some adam sandler bullcrap.

i'd say sony fulfilled both business and consumer needs from this conference. the people who will be reading wsj on their ipads will be reading about an exclusive tv show coming to ps4, which helps business at the end of the day. yes it's boring for you and me but i'll say sony expects that reaction from gamers once they decided to show those things.

Project morpheus which they barely showed at all? Also, lets ignore that this all depends on taste. Winning E3 is really an individual opinion. More people with similar individual opinions do not make those opinions more valid. For me, almost none of the third party or first party games either company showed are stuff I care about

MS had the better conference in terms of pacing and flow, but Sony had the better games to show overall (although most of them were multi plat). Whoever came up with the "letter"-stuff should be fired IMMEDIATELY. Should have done just the joke.

This was truly awful. Not only was it lame (IMO), it dragged way too fucking much.

I think I ruined the conference by expecting to see The last guardian... and also expecting to see something more from Bloodborne.

It dragged for way too much with tons of pointless stuff, but at least it showed a few games that look absolutely brilliant!

MS: 80 : Meh conference. Too much CG. Third parties I can just get for PC.
SNY: 78 : Basically the same as MS but with an added boring segment in the middle.
U: 75 : Lots of CG and games I didn't care about. R6 was the most memorable for me.
EA: 30 : Really should have just canceled their conference if they had nothing to show...

Far Cry, AC, and R6 are my most anticipated so far.

Overall pretty unimpressed. I was using this E3 to decide what console to get. Looks like the only two options now are to get a WiiU (will decide tomorrow) or get a better GPU for my PC.

W/e. Bring on the Nintendo event!

I thought it was great. I know.I should.t have but I was really let Down when Adam Boyes was talking about the letters. I know Shenmue scored so high and was.just waiting. In fact it was the most confident I have ever been of having a remake or Shenmue 3 announced and was heart broken when it did.t come. I know silly but I thought it was coming.

The E3 cycle is almost complete now.

Are we at the stage where we put all faith on Nintendo?

Good conference.
There were some woefully boring parts and the show was unnecessarily bloated(As usual), but I liked a lot of what I saw.
I think MS and SONY are pretty evenly matched on this one.
However, MS was a lot more focused than SONY was and that made their conference more fun to watch overall.
I'm really looking forward to Uncharted, LBP3, and No Man's Sky.
I don't think I'll be picking up a PS4 anytime soon though, the fall looks kind of barren in terms of SONY 1st party.

Face it fellow CB fans, Crash is dead and buried. :,(

Yeah, MS was more fast paced even if they also didn't show some "wow megaton" stuff. I was planning on buy a PS4 depending on the stuff they will shown tonight and yep... Looks like I'm not buying a PS4 anytime soon as well.

I feel like this conference literally had something for all type of gamers. Very stoked for the future of the PS4, buying one tomorrow.

Yup, the cynicism is crazy.

MS spends most of their time on third party stuff. Shows games years out (in CGI) and that's awesome

Sony shows off a few multiplats, shows a bunch of new excluives, including one for this year, shows only 2014/2015 stuff and it's crap..

Ummmmm ... yea.

Agreed.

How can the trailer be yawn? Still a technical marvel despite if you liked it or now.

Not your cup of tea sure, but yawn...? Naw son , ND bringing dat heat.

Microsoft: Moderate exclusive lineup, which was a total reversal for me. But a lot of those exclusives need to prove themselves, and it seems like we're in for a wait. (Some stuff like Fable looked forgettable, but easy to ignore.)
EA: Terrible. Everything that wasn't generic was pre-production and shouldn't have been shown at all.
Ubisoft: A few interesting games like Far Cry 4 and Just Dance Now.
Sony: A lot of games, most of them with no release date or little gameplay information. A lot of indies standing up to try and take the brunt off the tentpole releases. A lot of sequels that offer nothing new, like LBP. The Order could be good, I liked the Far Cry 4 footage, and a remake of Ratchet 1 sounds like a fun time. No Man's Sky looked amazing until I learned it wasn't single player. Nope.

All in all? Not enough for me to buy either new box. We'll see what Nintendo comes up with.

Well, overall that was probably the worst conference today. Very disappointed.

Don't care about The Order or LBP3, I have no idea what Let It Die is, but it doesn't look like something I'd be into, and lastly, I don't like the Uncharted series. Bloodborne was literally the only thing that actually piqued my interest exclusive wise. On top of it all this conference was just so boring. I was trying my best not to fall asleep there at the end.
