Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

After sleeping on it I can't help but be a little disappointed with the conference. It was definitely one of Sony's strongest in recent memory in terms of software quantity IMO but just think of what could've been if some of the juicy rumors turned out to be true. There were no real highlights for me, no real surprises. It was about as good as the MS one, although I'd argue that that one was better paced. That said, based on what they didn't show I expect they're going to own E3 2015.
How is LBP3 this fall and Grim Fandango remake console exclusive out of nowhere not a surprise?

For next year dear Sony try to make your presentation more cohesive and try to stay in the flow zone.
Dragging the show in the middle to the bottom was bad pacing.
If you want to talk about numbers, tech and service do it at the beginning and then continue with games only.
Try to sort them from least interesting to megaton.
Also after a CGI trailer followup with a gameplay-trailer/presentation, but keep it brief!

And please get better audio-engineers (you should have them, you are Sony!)

Potential: B+
In the end:

Ubi: B-
MS: C+
Sony: C+
EA: D-

PS: Nintendo please show a new Zelda

PortStation 4.

Last-gen GTA? We got that. Last-gen AAA press darling? Got that too.

Two-gen old remake of once popular franchise? On the way baby.

Indies indies indies (all of which are or will be on PC), got all of those!

That's all I see as a PC gamer.

If it weren't for the Bloodborne reveal I don't know if I'd have anything positive to say. UC4's trailer looked fantastic, but UC3 was such a piece of shit of a game that it left me with a seriously bad taste for the franchise.

That Bond villain/Powers/PSN segment was also just terrible.

Where was GT7? Where was DriveClub? Where was Santa Monica? Where was Guerrilla?

I keep saying this, but people keep thinking No mans sky is a ps4 exclusive. It isn't.

There's a disturbing amount of people on this forum to whom console gaming is the only kind of gaming, so it's super exclusive to them.

Those who keep saying MS announced games for 2016...which games are those? I remember them specifically saying "the following games are for our 2015 profile"
Anyone care to list which games are 2016? Or are we just making assumptions because they were CG?

Could of sworn a few games from last e3 were supposed to be for this yr too no? Maybe thats where this is stemming from? Cg trailers from a yr ago, to the samething now with no real gameplay to be only a yr away. Maybe the next events will shed some light into this madness. I wanna see gameplay!

Actually a very decent and very agreeable summery.
Nintendo pls save E3.

Anyone surprised and upset at the lack of Driveclub during Sony's conference? That is literally the only thing that made me go 'Huh?' I was legit baffled we didn't get a live gameplay demo, even considering the protracted development of the game. Would have been a great moment. And it's a game that's releasing this fall!

All things considered this was probably the strongest E3 conference I've seen in quite a while. Loved what I saw. Standouts were GTAV on PS4 and No Man's Sky, which absolutely blew me away. Could not believe the shot of all the wildlife milling about. My computer desktop at the moment is a piece of concept art that showed dinosaur-like wildlife in it, and I had thought to myself no way is this four person indie team going to be able to match that vision in this game. From what I've seen they'll surpass my expectations. Thrilled that it's a timed console exclusive on PS4.

Console exclusive....debut. Huge difference

Does anyone know yet when the youtube app is coming? And did i hear it right? Is it upload to youtube and also an app like the one on PS3 or just a place to upload videos you have made?

Fall, it'll be an app + upload via Share button.

Happy E3! As you may have heard during PlayStation’s press conference, the YouTube team has been working hard to bring YouTube to PlayStation 4, where you can find and play all of YouTube including music videos, gaming videos, live streams and more. Today, we’re delighted to announce that YouTube is coming to PS4 this fall!

Sharing your greatest gaming moments on YouTube will be a piece of cake on PS4, thanks to the dedicated sharing capabilities at the very heart of PS4. YouTube will officially be one of the social options offered when you press the SHARE button on your DualShock 4. After pressing SHARE, you’ll see the YouTube icon pop up alongside Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, and Ustream, and in just a couple of quick steps, you can go from playing your favorite games to publishing videos on your own YouTube channel. You’ll also be able to see your friends’ shared YouTube videos using the “What’s New” feed.

In addition to the integrated sharing functionality, a YouTube app on PS4 will become available (just like on PS3) where you can access your favorite YouTube channels, videos and personalities.

We can’t wait for you all to start sharing your gaming triumphs on YouTube! Look for more news coming soon. In the meantime, what games are you looking forward to sharing on YouTube?

Outside of Gears, isn't that literally all MS has announced?

Sony has that list, along with Drive Club, Hohokum, Helldivers, Rime, Shadow of the Beast, Everybody Gone to the Rapture, Planetside 2, H1Z1, and a shitload more indies than MS.

Guilty Gear, Kingdom Under Fire 2, and the other dozen or so F2P games coming out in the next 12 months--supposedly--are also missing. Sony is literally burying its audience in software compared to its competitors.

How many games did MS show last year are coming out next year? I think its safe to say at least a few of those CGI ones will see another E3 and will be in consumer hands in 2016.

So you're all pretty much making assumptions. About as much as I expected. I get what you are trying to say, but that stuff was announced for 2015. You can't pull things out of your ass until it gets announced as such.

I was incredibly happy with the omission of DC (and Morpheus too for that matter). The game has been delayed for almost a year, it had an extended look last E3, we dont need another one this year. Sony also doesn't need to remind people about how long this has been delayed.

Im sure it will do fine away from the presentation.

And what about the 2013 stuff that was shown and is now 2015 material? I, and many others, may be making assumptions, but at least they are believable.

I think Sony did a solid conference full of great content, maybe the one with the biggest amount of games (and it's great to see they still have a lot more coming like the previously announced ones, new IPs from MM and Guerrilla plus TLG).

Sadly like in the others the amount of suprises has been low due to leaks and early announcements. But hey, we'll have a lot of cool games to play.

They still need bombs and presentation material for Gamescom in a month. Relax.

I don't think anybody really wanted to see Driveclub at the press conference this year, they'll start hyping it through the summer - probably starting at Gamescom in August because it's a british/european production.

As we know, Sony tend to focus shows around local content, and Driveclub is perfect local content for Gamescom.

Yeah but its not even console exclusive. It is console debut exclusive which means it will launch first on PS4 and (likely) other consoles later. Timed exclusive

His Philness himself said at the beginning of the press conference that all games shown are coming in 2014 and 2015 respectively. He says it in the very first minutes of the conference. There may be delays anyway, but for now all what MS has shown is ready in 2014/2015.

I really enjoyed the conference. I give it a solid A-. Maybe the fact that I saw it in theaters helped. The games they showed also appealed to me a lot more than MS's did. I'll probably end up buying almost every one of them. LBP3 surprised the hell out of me. The live unscripted gameplay was genuinely fun. The Order finally showed what I wanted it to and it looked really good. So many good games. Totally didn't see that white PS4 coming.

Inside at MS's conference was the only game I thought "I have to play that". It looked really good.

Please, out of all the games MS announced, how many are scheduled for a 2015 release?

Compared to what was supposed to have been released this yr from the last E3.

Which ones? I'm genuinely curious. Sunset Overdrive had an all CGI trailer last year, and it's getting released this year. Quantum Break was shown last year, but it's release date was never actually announced (see the release date thread were people kept bitching that it was "delayed" and many posters had to point out that a date was never announced). Why the sudden assumption that all these titles are 2016 when they were specifically said to be 2015?

I liked both conference but I'll give a slight edge to Sony's. What I liked in MS's conference was that it showed many games I'll enjoy on my PS4 later on. Thank you MS! :-D

Quantum Break was listed as a 2014 game by www.xbox.com
Scalebound is a 2016 release date according to ntkrnl

How is LBP3 this fall and Grim Fandango remake console exclusive out of nowhere not a surprise?
I was expecting a new LBP (maybe a spinoff) as much as I'd expect Nintendo to announce a game with Mario in it. As for Grim Fandango, okay I guess that counts as a surprise for me too, but it's "just" a remake.

I don't know which will actually be released 2015. I'm not psychic. What I do know is that they were announced as part of the 2015 portfolio and some of you are trying to downplay them as "not real herp derp" and pulling 2016 out of your asses. If they get delayed or announced as 2016 them by all means. But again, Sunset Overdrive was announced last year with only CG and it's getting released this year. Why are you trying to downplay these ones? It seems odd to do that especially when they specifically mentioned 2015.

Both conferences were basically tied this year. They both had games to show, although a lot of multi platform for microsoft. Bloodborne blew me away as well as Uncharted 4 even though we only we got to see a quick teaser. LBP3 came out of NOWHERE. Just like that on the screen and no words lol. I was pretty impressed with Far Cry 4 for how great it looked. And batman seriously blew me away.

Not assuming shit. Ntkrnl called MS' entire conference, except he didn't think they'd include Crackdown yet because it's a 2016 game but they needed something so they threw it in there. He leaked their entire show so I'd imagine he knows what he's talking about.

Kamiya won't be done with Bayo2 until late this year. He's not getting Scalebound made and released in a year. 2016 is the soonest we'll see it and I wouldn't be totally shocked if it's an early 2017 title.

Phantom Dust might be a 2015, but given that it's likely being done by Grounding Inc (Futatsugi's studio, he made the original), that they took forever to make Crimson Dragon, and that Crimson Dragon only released last fall I'd say it's pretty unlikely they're doing a full HD rebuild of Phantom Dust much before very late 2015/early 2016. Given that every game with a reasonable 2015 date had "2015" in the trailer and the known 2016 titles had nothing, I'd say Phantom Dust having no date is a pretty clear indicator.

That's just the reality of MS' lineup.

Sony, listen to this person! This is exactly how I feel about it. Both MS and Sony played it save. There was no "wow" moment. At least there is still hope for the new Zelda game.

A little late to this, as I watched it in the theater last night, but I would say a good solid conference, about 7/10.

It was mostly games, which was very nice, and some hardware and services. But no Last Guardian, driving or extreme sports game was a touch disappointing. LBP, Grim Fandango and No Man's Sky definitely made up for it.

In the end it left me wanting a lot more info about a lot of what they showed, which is good. Worst part must have been seeing the President of SCEA with his super fancy suit and watch, it was just so incongruous. And the whole Powers rambling at the end was a snoozefest. That guy needed to practice his lines and also pare the speech to a third of the time.

When they started talking about the camera I thought they were going to throw it in the box for free. Would of been pretty funny since Microsoft just took theirs out

Sony and Microsoft took 2 very distinct approaches to E3 yesterday.

Microsoft put all their cards on the table and showed almost all their first party games (except for Gears of War and Rise of Nations I guess..) which I think was necessary for them to do because they're currently lagging in sales (because of their mistakes last year). In addition, because they obviously have more money than Sony, they were able to reach out to more third party AAA developers and in return they got exclusive content or first on Xbox One content or whatever.Basically,Microsoft did everything right this E3.

On the other hand, Sony kept their cards very close to their chest and showcased few of their first party exclusives(The Order 1886, Driveclub) and even fewer that we had not already seen before (Bloodborne, LBP3 & Uncharted) and instead showed more indies and some third party titles, and they also talked a lot about PSN, PSNow," Power", but this was important for them to do and it was important for them to introduce the new "Jack Tretton" (aka Shawn Layden) just because they have a lot of ventures going for them and not just the PS4.The lack of first party exclusives was a very smart move by Sony looking into the future but one which would tilt the mindshare more towards the Xbox One.

In the coming months Sony will begin trickling information about their first party titles coming from their studios( Sony Bend, Media Molecule, SCEJ, Guerrilla, Santa Monica, Quantic Dream, Naughty Dog...) which would make people talk about the PS4, especially in 2014, because of the scarcity of AAA titles this year. In addition, Sony still has one more card up their sleeve that they're not ready to show yet...Playstation All Stars Battle Royale Round 2...just kidding, its The Last Guardian, which in my opinion Sony could've shown at this year's E3 but ultimately didn't because they didn't want to make the same mistake twice and they probably would've liked to announce it alone because of all the hype surrounding it.

Microsoft has caught up to Sony quickly, and now its Sony's turn to react to the plethora of AAA titles that Microsoft announced at E3. It will take some time for Sony to show their games but when the time comes, Microsoft would have nothing to retaliate with since all their cards are on the table(except for Rise of Nations :P).

Sorry guys for the long post. Anyways, do you agree or..? And btw guys will Civ: Beyond Earth be at E3? No really will it?

As somebody who watched games for both, hands down Sony won. Microsoft's conference had way too many games without solid release dates or a full cg trailer with no gameplay, and nothing that came out was unexpected. Admittedly halo 2 in xbox one has me excited for multiplayer alone but besides that and sunset overdrive I wasn't blown away by any other cg trailer.

Sony on the other hand surprised me with lbp3. I was disappointed with no last guardian and no guerrilla game and no rumored syphon filter. But whatever. They might have some surprises for tgs.

Microsoft had that nice looking indie title, but Sony once again showed us that they are THE console for the best third party titles and for bigger indie titles such as No Man's Skies. Mix that with bloodborne, last of us and lbp3 this year and Sony will have a more than decent 2014 among thir party titles.

Microsoft tried hard but promises of game with no release date nor gameplay don't do it for me anymore. Who's to say when these games come out or if they'll even be any good. Fable for example hasn't been good since fable 2. Without Molyneux even the slightest chance of vision/inspiration mightve left the franchise. So I need to be wowed. Same with Crackdown 3. And that game revival title doesn't do anything for me because I never played the original.

Me and a group of friends were at the theater. This is what I noticed, or were my impressions:

Sonys opening was strong. The Destiny opening was the perfect choice.

Much better than the COD MS opening because with Destiny the conference felt fresh, was new ip, and set a tone from the beginning that felt it was looking more to the future.

Then they brought more new ip. It just set the tone that this was were you wanted to be for the future.

Really they rocked it more than MS IMHO.

Their were times that MS was rocking it like Sony, specifically Sunset overdrive and The Witcher.

And MS had a good conference. But many times it was good, not rocking it.

Sony was ROCKING IT.

There was a crescendo moment in No Mans Sky, the music was rocking, and people were into it. This game felt like it was inspiring. A high moment in the show.

And it didn't stop! It just kept coming, great game after great game.

The mid mark low were, Powers, and the Vita TV announcements. Not bad lows, just a break. It felt like the you get a free meal but you have to listen to the sales pitch, Powers and Vita TV were the sales pitch part.

But then desert with the ending with Last of Us and Uncharted. Honestly, in the theater we were at it was a GREAT conference.

They brought it. The jabs at MS were subtle, and were really placed as differentiators reminding people this was the most powerful console.

Also the news that GTA V you could transfer you 360 data to PS4 I thought was a play to keep moving those MS players to PS4. Well placed and very interesting.

All in all people saying both MS and Sony had an equal conference, it was not equal IMHO.

MS was a more of a strait line, with modest bumps, and some highs.

Sony line was climbing, many highs.

MS had a good solid conference.

Sony had a great awesome conference.

That's the difference.
True story.
Watched the conference again with my friends.
Sony was rocking it. A really great presser.
And Bloodborne ..... ^_^

Sony is really in a strong strong position. They have some great new IP coming, plus the timed exclusives are some of the best indie games but the real big quiver in their bow is just the graphic superiority. Your going to see them continue to outpace X1 to a large degree and especially when the most exciting looking games right now are mostly 3rd party that is a huge deal.

Batman will look best on PS4
Far Cry will look best on PS4
Assassins Creed will look best on PS4
Witcher will look best on PS4

On and on and on and on.

As the gen continues that will only continue. It's why MS really really need a exclusive IP that blew our socks off because they start at a disadvantage.

My biggest deal is I'm now always afraid of IQ with the Bone. If they can master that for Halo, SO, and Forza and such they will do alright. If they can't well then they have lost me. Sony clearly won this for me.
