They really weren't.

Drake mortally wounded and bleeding out in the snow with diolouge of him giving up, and him in a plane crash walking through the dessert dying of thirst.

Seems a bit more dire than waking up in some water, looking old, with a handy firearm.

Yup. That was a lot more dire situation than what this looks like. I seem to remember people in that thread assuming that we were seeing Drake moments before he dies.

That dialogue about this being their last gig is already making me nostalgic. It will be tough for me letting these characters go. Sully sounds really worn out and tired. Thinking back on all they went through, especially how UC3 built their father/son relation so well, if UC4 ends on a tragic note I'll be depressed for a long time.
I think they changed Nate's face too much though.

Those moments did indeed look dire, but mostly for Drake. Could this game be about losing everyone around him because of his inability to forego his wanderlust obsession?

If I had it my way, I would make it pan out like this:

1) Introduce one or two more characters to be developed who are close to Nate (perhaps a relative or friend), in addition to Chloe, Elena, and Sully.
2) Nate's irresponsibleness gets some of them killed, tortured, etc.
3) He deals with the repercussions throughout the entire game
4) By the end he has to seemingly sacrifice himself for Sully, Elena, or someone, and is finally thought to be dead
5) And as I said in my earlier post, I would have the end scene pan out like that, with Sully in a museum wandering around and feeling uneasy when the alarms start going off as he then realizes Drake is still alive (but for some reason hiding? lol pirates after his ass!)

I shouldn't have gotten too specific, but that's how I would like to see it end.

could just be 'end' as in 'forced to hang up his boots due to family responsibilities'.

anyway, presumably it's fall 2015, so little point speculating now. It only just got shown and already we're into fanfic territory :)

Little surprised they didn't show more. I suspect that TLOU took more naughty dog resources than many here imagined, especially when ND themselves said they didn't truly have two different teams.

This is looking like a fall 2015 release to me, especially with the order and blood borne targeting early next year.

The teaser gave me UC2 vibes, everything from the logo to the name to the despair. Love that it's going to be tropical again, as that is my favorite environment.

60 fps target has me worried that the series is going to continue being pretty confined. I was hoping they'd use the extra hardware to open up the gameplay more, but this is just me speculating as I don't see how they achieve those visuals unless it's a pretty confined and linear experience.

Lies, all lies!

Okay, maybe technically God of War an Beyond are more impressive, but I still think Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us look better because of free camera control, unmatched art direction, the lighting, and the amount of detail and amazing animations that make Naughty Dog characters seem so lifelike. Kratos looks amazing, but the other characters are all pretty plastics.

Most people don't take these things into consideration when evaluating visuals of games, they just look at how pretty it is but forget that the ability to freely control a camera at any given time during a game makes a huge difference on what can be displayed on screen.
It's a pointless debate anyway, they all look incredible considering the hardware. Personally I think the cruise ship in UC3 is the highlight of technical achievements on the console.

Twist: Drake's actually the one captured and we will control Elena and rescue him instead.

I'd actually love that (TLOU spoilers)
but it would be too similar to the winter section in TLOU where you're given control of Ellie to save Joel.

i would bet all kinds of money that this wont happen. uncharted has always been an uplifting and adventurous franchise.

Yeah. They're hammering it into our heads that this is going to be the "finale" of the series or at least of Drake's story, and I think it'll be more along the lines of finally putting away the life of the "thief" rather than him getting killed in action.

This is an interesting way of looking at it. Maybe a thief's end is less about pain/death and more about mental/emotional baggage.

I hate it when writers do that. If you want to shock the player by killing the protagonist then have the balls to actually do it, don't give me this emotional death scene and then a few minutes pull the "oh wait he's actually alive" card. Always feels like such a cop out.

Most certainly. Sony needs a big hitter for the holidays and Uncharted is second only to Gran Turismo as the PlayStation's biggest IP.

Yeah, Uncharted is holidays, no way around it.

The reason it doesn't bother me too much is because the user is left to imagine what really happened afterward, how they survived, and what they're actually doing now. If I were to think Drake died but then found out he survived, I would only be happy at the thought of him surviving, but then it would sadden me that he no longer would be apart of the lives of the other characters (should it end the way I suggested it or should he be unable to return to Sully, Elena, and his family for whatever reason). I enjoy having conflicting emotions, not just happy or sad.

It's odd because yes, with movies and other shows, I have disliked this in the past, just the same as you. But I've been imagining this happening with Uncharted and it doesn't bother me the slightest. My opinion and all.

Why are you selectively quoting yourself? You said "lame speculation from people who don't like UC games and for that reason want to turn them into something else". That wasn't the case, as I explained.

It was the case. Because no normal UC fan would want to drop the best part of the series - Nate and Sully - from the sequel. UC is nothing but an ordinary TPS without them. There is no point in doing an UC sequel which doesn't feature Nate. I don't know how much more times I have to say this.
Also - lame speculation without reason is still lame no matter who's maintaining it. And that was the case.

Uncharted with a more personal journey, maintain those mindblowing uncharted setpieces but mix in some more intimate moments

I mean stop it, i cant even

I'd say there's something going on with Elena considering he's wearing the wedding ring around his finger, which I'm pretty sure we've only seen him wear around his neck before.

In the description, how far will he go to save the ones he loves etc etc.

I can see where you're coming from but I always feel that they might as well not have done the death scene in the first place. Sure it worked well the first time I saw this trope being used "omg he's alive after all I'm so happy" but it's not something I can tolerate these days. It always feels cheap to me.

Geoff had an interview with Druckmann and Staley. The impression I got this Uncharted would focus more on Drake's motivations and emotions for this 'adventure' and hence it will be the darkest Uncharted game yet.

uh nah... he wears it at the end of uncharted 3

They will most likely be using facial performance capture. With graphics that good and lifelike, hand animated expressions (no matter how well done) will only deepen any uncanny valley feelings.

TLoU has better animation than any game I know of using capture...
