E3 2014 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 [ it's over :( ]

The Treehouse is proving to be super successful. I mean almost 100k people still watching it on twitch

This, as an Nintendo fan I'll welcome any new IP or new innovative gameplay, criticizing the graphics and gameplay is stupid, these games are rough and still in early development.

I'm absolutely in love with Nintendo's approach to E3 this year.

They've finally took the Nintendo Direct idea into the correct direction. Guard looks cool too. Giant Robot though... eeesh... that really looked rough. And by rough I mean unbridled crap.

The presenters themselves are fantastic. Really natural.

StarFox is a rough prototype too so maybe you should close your eyes so you don't get scared.

Yes, but it's a prototype of a game we now know will be getting released for sure and will be worked on closely by Miyamoto.

Showing off how the gamepad works into how the game plays will be great to see now, even if the game aesthetically looks very rough at this stage.

People do know what they want. Note that it differs from person to person.

When I see a new game / demonstration, I want:
-To see something close to finished
-Something with obvious gameplay depth that looks fun
-Some visual or audio hook that I enjoy (some decent art or music)
-An indication that there's plenty of content in whatever I'm seeing
-Something original if possible

I don't have a lot of time for half-finished demos that do nothing particularly new.

Early Access on Steam has done pretty well.

Nintendo Early Access with these kind of exploratory demos would do ridiculously well on WiiU, I think.

Also with what's on stream right now they aren't selling a game to you. They're selling the concepts that they're working on for the WiiU gamepad. There is no game for sale here. There is a console, which people have constantly complained hasn't been justified or made unique, and that's the exact purpose of these demos.

If you don't have time why are you even watching? We knew these were early prototypes before it started.

I think Starfox is an even earlier prototype then these games. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just Starfox 64 retrofitted with gamepad controls at this point.

But why are they still trying to validate the Gamepad's novelty after all this time? Seems like a waste of their resources when they could have been actually working on a Star Fox game all this time. lol

Not really feeling any of these games. Miyamoto is the greatest designer of all time but, yeah, gaming has evolved past him and his ideas.

With what exactly?

More FPSs? Or the Ai's who are smart enough to flank but not smart enough to duck from a bullet?

If this came with a AAA wrapping there wouldn't be any complaints.

I have no problem with you not feeling it, but lets not go overboard and act like gaming can't be ALL things.

Project Guard seems like a great game to play with people who don't usually play games. They both looked pretty fun to me *shrug*

Seriously, I can just imagine playing these with my 3 year old nephew. It seems like he would love pointing out the robots!

Ignoring how rough this Miyamoto stuff is, Nintendo's presenters have been fantastic all day. No surprise with Trinnen, though, the guy is a master.

They probably shouldn't let the screen display FAILURE for so long while they're talking.

It's appropriate though, isn't it?

Giant Drunk Robots looks like it could be fun

R.O.B Wrecking your shit doesn't seem like it can be fleshed out that much but he did say he was working on smaller games

I bet the people saying that project guard suck, would absolutely love it if it involved zombies, aliens or gritty marines with remote turrets for cameras.

Now give me Xenoblade Chronicles X.

<high five> I think both look like fun and the multi alone for the giant robot with the family would be great.

Wii U has been a real blast to play with friends locally. I was surprised by how much Super Mario 3D World went over with friends and family at the holidays. That's the kind of experience I can't get from a PS4/Xbox One because the local environment isn't there for that game library.

I'm not saying each is better, but there is a place for both and I think it's great to have so many local multiplayer games.

Now if the local multiplayer goes...well much sadness.

You're so right, how many early projects we see on steam ?
And they asking our money to beta play them.
At least here, no money is asked.

It's because they have failed utterly at validating the gamepad so far and see that as a key failure point for the WiiU - this is a direct result of Iwata's push to differentiate and increase the value of the gamepad to the market.

Also with something like StarFox they're still trying to find an external partner to work on the game. That's how early it is. They have the concept now they want to find someone to do the heavy lifting with Miyamoto telling how things should be. It's 2016 or 2017 title.

Yes and that's why some are skeptical.

About what? I just don't get it. I thought people would be happy to see some semi-internal concepts Nintendo has cooked up. We never get to see those.

Give it to Retro studios please

Anyone surprised that Miyamoto making Project Guard is forgetting that Miyamoto was the designer who came up with Pac-Man Vs. He has grown to really loves this type of experience. Good on him.

I love that Nintendo are giving a peek into their process. Previously the only place you could see this was at their behind-doors E3 events. I remember enjoying all the DS launch concept games in 2004.

Wasn't Platinum begging Nintendo to give it to them?

So with Project Guard and Project Giant Robot being playable, could they be coming sooner than Star Fox? I figured all 3 would probably be out sometime next year.
