The Treehouse Live Format is the Future of E3

people do see the limitations of that if you are not as first party focused as nintendo right?

sony and MS minus an exclusive or two would mostly be showing the same games
hell idk how that is set up anyway, are there like far cry 4 or witcher at MS/sony booths? or are those at the ones of their publishers?

and the whole interviews and extended game play demos or demos from titles that don't make the conferences has been done for ages, I guess the issue being length of the demos and interviews, but that's due to the amount of games they have to go through, which would really change that much, take a usual gametrailers interview plus demo for everything, take away the MS and nintendo only stuff and you don't gain that much more time to be able to dedicate half an hour or more per game

plus the logistics of getting all those third party devs at your place at a certain time and then some only have a working demo on ps4 but you are MS, what do you do?

not doing third party games otoh is just insane, first of all both don't have enough of them to carry a show like that each year and second people who buy a ps4 or xbox one want to see those third party games

Based on what I saw today if you told me this was a Nintendo trade show I'd believe you.

I've never seen a publisher or hardware manufacturer dominate the focus of an entire day of a show like this before.

Aonuma, some guy from Koei Tecmo, and a couple of Treehouse dudes shooting the breeze about Hyrule Warriors was amazing. This is exactly how Nintendo needs to handle E3.

Agree completely. No need for the press.

This was the most enjoyable day EVER for E3. It seems like Nintendo is really embracing consumer input.
I love how they get Eiji Aonuma, Masahiro Sakurai, Shigeru FREAKING Miyamoto, Reggie to actually hear what everyone has to say. The roundtable is a great example of that, too.

A shame that Iwata had to miss this one. I think it was really eye-opening. And I haven't even bought a Nintendo system since 2004.

Finally seeing the actual benefit. The main thing though is to better the development pipeline for first and third parties. Games are obviously becoming more rare and it's imperative to actual produce them at a good rate.

I'm loving Nintendo's approach to E3 this year with the Treehouse Live Format. Gave a great way to see actual games being played, and not only that it was entertaining to watch especially with guests like Aounuma. Watching Hyrule Warriors With the Great Fairy and the Moon might be one of my highlights of the whole Treehouse Live Event. Just great fun overall.

I completely agree, it was pure gaming fun. Treehouse is one of the best way to introduce a game, with professional gamers who know how to play and not random footage from the showfloor where 90% of them dont know what they're doing and most of the time will give bad initial impressions. Was just fun to watch too, was very hard to do anything else productive during the stream.

Pictures of this ilk always bother me: That's a reflection. Geoff is inside in that shot, looking outside at the rain. You can tell: You can see the scenery behind Geoff through him. That means that Geoff is translucent, hence he's a reflection.

The thing depicted is the thing that is *inside looking out*. If it were to be rendered as solid instead, it would be *outside looking in*.

I've made that exact argument about the original image on several occasions. But I had to do it to reference the original for this picture, so.

I really enjoyed the format, tone, and pace of the stream. I hope they do this more often!

Well a lot of these games are already demoed on stage, and if you are going to do this would work out the logistics long before the show started.

I think/hope Nintendo should have indie titles on this tomorrow or Thurs as well. I think it would be great exposure.

The only thing I'd change - during the gap between the Direct and Treehouse, they should've been airing all the trailers for Wii U and eShop games that they've put on YouTube.

My thoughts as well. For those people who were crying that there wasn't a conference, good thing Nintendo didn't listen

I really love this. It feels way more engaging and fun watching all this gameplay, and having people who are enthusiastic talk and play the games. It also sold me more on the games than the digital event did (who knew showing gameplay was a good thing, lol). I was lukewarm on the xenoblade x trailer and the treehouse shows made it a must buy once again for me. Plus watching that Splatoon video sold me on that game and how fun it looks.

Nintendo should keep it up for sure. They made this E3 their E3 to me.

Seriously. In comparison the Sony conference was boring as hell(not the content, the presentation itself), and MS' was pretty entertaining specifically because there was so little stage time between games. It's just not needed, and it shows. This format is a million times better. Just think of how good it will be in a few more years once it's been honed.

What are you guys talking about? Was there more after the Direct?

I quit watching it just as they revealed Splatoon because it was so boring, scripted, terrible EA-like dev talks, and those "comedy scenes" just made me facepalm for a long time.

The Zelda part was supposed to be the best, but we had Aonuma talk a long, then say Zelda is open world, and ended it with a scripted action sequence that is anti-open world.

Exactly. With a few tweaks, this format will go from amazing to mindblowing.

They showed extended gameplay sessions of lots of the game shown, talked more with the devs at E3, Smash Bros. tournament, etc. pretty much all day.

We are talking about something completely different. Also you missed star fox

I think the best part about this, is how we doesnt have to go through some jaded journalist to get the info anymore, as there are fans right there playing and streaming it to us. Absolutely brilliant move from Nintendo, and its really time to eat some crow for all those that said that Nintendo had given up because they didnt have a press conference.

Seriously is there a place to watch the live stream stuff? The stream says it's off line now but I want to watch all the post-digital event stuff. It's not archived on the Nintendo @E3 website.

You might have wanted to stay.
The reveal was ass, but the game looks fantastic when actual people play it.

There's 10 hours of content. After the direct, treehouse streamed games non-stop. Actual GAMES they can play. Even xenoblade X had a 45 mins gameplay run! Not just a demo level, but the start of the game.

Uh Sony does that too? They stream their mini-stage with indepth gameplay, but pretty much every media does too, so I don't see the difference.

Ah okay, not talking about Direct. And don't care about Star Fox. Those games have been terrible after 64.

The only criticism for the stuff thus far has just come in. Not revealing the extra Smash reveals on the stage after nearly 300K viewers combined watched the Smash Invitational is Looney Tunes. :lol

I love it as well. I had almost zero interest in Hyrule Warriors before seeing it in action and seeing just how varied the combat actually is. I can't wait to watch this over the next couple of days.

Also, OP RUN ON SENTENCES OMG.

Nope. Current press event format is best and generates the most hype. TV friendly and better exposure.

What does that have to do with the Treehouse Live? That was the Digital Event that replaced the press conference.

Haha, I watched a little bit of the Playstation stream after watching Treehouse Live for awhile and it was pathetic. Typical PR-style interview questions that tell you hardly anything about the game that we don't know, and DEFINITELY not "in-depth" gameplay. Usually just a looping trailer or a little b-roll. And this opinion is coming from a huge PS fan, no less.

Dunno about that. Nintendo had over 100k viewers all day long throughout this event, and that's just their Twitch channel and doesn't count people who watched it through YouTube or whatever. That's pretty good exposure, I think.

On the other hand, if youre at work, the 90 minute press conference is easier to listen to, rather than a 4 hour extended preview thing...
Of course, fortunately the two aren't exclusive and Nintendo had a 30 minute Digital Event before this which contained all the major announcements. This is just a bonus on top of that for those who do have the time and wanted an ever better look at some of the games they announced.

You just asked if there was more after the Direct. There was. I never suggested they were the only ones doing it.

I thought the 'more after Direct' was implied as the Treehouse. What is the Treehouse Live Format?

The OP doesn't describe it that well unless it is just what the media does.

Didn't get to watch everything live, but I'm sure I'll catch up via stuff in threads. Nintendo nailed E3 this year. God it feels so good to be a Nintendo fan again. And this Treehouse stuff is really cool. I've been waiting for years for this day to come again. ;_; Happiest E3 since forever.
