A statement as silly as that doesn't even merit a response. I believe we provided enough evidence throughout this thread to showcase why switching from Windows to Linux for desktop PC gaming is a terrible decision. Even with my case of using a Xbox ROG Ally X, it would be a terrible decision.

Internet Explorer wasn't renamed to Edge. Edge is a completely different architecture based on open source Chromium. It started as a successor to IE, but the decision to use Chromium made it a proper browser. The whole point of anti-cheat is to control who gets to play the game. But my point is that it is insane to blame Linux for being locked out of certain game titles when it is the choice of the game devs to do so, not Linux. Windows is NOT superior to Linux just because some software had default exclusivity, which is what the anti-cheat ended up being.
There was a software at my work that was designed to run on Internet Explorer. Then Microsoft renamed IE to Edge, and the software just bricks itself and accuse me of trying to run it on Safari. The Software was designed to run on IE, and Edge technically is just the successor, but the software just outright refuse to run because it didn't recognize Edge as a valid internet browser. In that situation you don't blame Microsoft, you blame the software dev who didn't update properly to ALLOW IT.

Where is this from? I found now already 2 vids on YT running Witcher3 with 60fps on an ROG Ally X (with SteamOS)

The irony is that it was posted in this thread as some showcase for switching to Linux. Absurd ain't it?
Its not absurd. He says himself, that something had to be wrong and that others had better results for Witcher3 (as you can see in every other benchmark). You just cherry picking this one game, where clearly something is wrong. Wow...impressive!
it absolutely is a Linux issue.
Linux's fragmentation means it's nearly impossible to "support Linux". at best we could see developers support very specific distros.
so they'd have to decide which ones to support, so we would maybe get games that support only SteamOS, or only Bazzite.
you can't make a secure anticheat system that works on just any Linux version. meanwhile on the windows side, supporting only 1 version already means supporting millions of users. supporting 2 versions adds another couple of millions.
supporting SteamOS would maybe get you 3 million potential users, and realistically only a couple of thousand actual users.
Witcher3 runs with 60fps on yr little handheld (check out other benchmarks). Something went wrong in his benchmark. Happens. All of the sudden when Linux shits the bed it becomes about others experience and not his personal experience with it. IN HIS VIDEO. With no criticism of the compatibility issue that arise frequently with using Linux. So much so that Valve has to segregate games with filters based on these issues. What a joke.
You cant convince any of these players and nobody does it. If you want play these games...you have to stick to windows. But thats nothing to celebrate about imho. The list above has around 300 million players combined. Some on that list are in the top most played games on pc. How can you convince someone who plays these games to move over to Linux but they won't be able to play that game.??... duel boot is just a useless and waste of time.
Eh, you don't really need platinum status in Proton for it to just work out of the box. Many gold-rated games in ProtonDB do just work out of the box, but they can involve small UI text meant for a desk setup only, or you need mouse/touch input to bypass a launcher that you can solve with a steam input desktop preset using a pad. I can run my own 1200+ library through ProtonDB, and get this:How many times was posted here in the thread about gaming outside Steam being a BIG thing and even on Steam the amount of games with proton platinum status is far from 100%??![]()

It honestly varies, but old Windows games do often run more easily on Linux via Proton/Wine than on modern Windows, due to better handling of legacy 32-bit libraries, DirectX translation, and avoidance of Windows' strict compatibility checks/telemetry issues. Windows 11 doesn't have perfect backwards compatibility with DX8/DX9 games for example, while Proton does translate those API calls better out of the box, in addition to GE-Proton having custom fixes for some older games. Windows main advantage is some old games have mod fixes, and some won't work on Linux easily (or at all sometimes). Last pain point is DX7 games that are getting unofficial Proton support, and are a pain in the ass to work on Windows, so hopefully it improves...anything earlier can usually be solved by emulation. In your dream old games in general requires more work on Windows than on Linux.

Every time I see a video of Linux is amazing for gaming - 30 seconds in - "Ok so I had to research how to overcome these 7 issues I was having by entering these codes into the console. I scoured some subreddits and some GitHubs and I got it working." I just shut off the video.

Kingdom come deliverance 2 runs at 62 on linux while 47 in windows in the Rog ally X, now that windows shits the bed then what?
Exactly. If linux isnt for you...fine, just keep kissing MS's ass! I dont care.Yeah I'm not seeing much attempt to convince in that direction in here lol. It's an "if you build it, they will come" situation, atm. Linux is good right now for people with the right use case and priorities.
Did you switch to experimental?Something went wrong with Linux trying to run a Windows game. Now that's a revelation.
When I started Clair Obscur on my Legion Go Steam OS it would not show me graphics options. I definitely had to run to reddit to find out why and how to resolve the issue.

You got any benchmarks to prove that? And it better not be from that guy who was already disproven and was pointed out that he was running two completely different TDP during the test. Amateur hour.
Because everything in this forum needs to be some kind of war...I guess. And then I see console gamers making the same claims about Windows. I don't buy any of these cherry picked narratives that are just agenda fueled nonsense. If people don't want to use Linux then don't. If folks don't want to use Windows, find an alternative. I don't get why anyone cares what operating system anyone else uses.
Well Christ, did the thread title and OP give it away?Because everything in this forum needs to be some kind of war...I guess.

ROG Xbox Ally runs better on Linux than the Windows it ships with — new test shows up to 32% higher FPS, with more stable framerates and quicker sleep resume times
Jury's still out on Microsoft's optimization.www.tomshardware.com
Cyber installed Bazzite, a popular Linux distro for handhelds built specifically to offer that console-esque, seamless experience. Visually, Bazzite looks identical to SteamOS because it uses Steam's Big Picture Mode as its main launcher.
When testing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Cyber noticed a shockingly significant jump in FPS, with Linux generating ~32% more FPS compared to Windows.
That...

OLED TV owners?I think we found a a group of peoples even more annoying than vegans
OLED TV owners?
Yep, its not even that MS is in war with linux. They are developing it themselves. I am just happy I can dodge their "agentic OS" bullshit via linux. Thats it.It seems so. I don't know what kind of "war" you can have when one side has dominant market share for decades. I think Microsoft will be ok.
Life was simpler when we were just fighting over consoles. And then I see console gamers making the same claims about Windows. Thats what I am expecting as well. (I hope i am wrong.)They will do something. And that something is going to suck.
DXVK and other tools are a thing on Windows too, not some proton/wine exclusive, so older DirectX games are mostly a non issue on Windows. It honestly varies, but old Windows games do often run more easily on Linux via Proton/Wine than on modern Windows, due to better handling of legacy 32-bit libraries, DirectX translation, and avoidance of Windows' strict compatibility checks/telemetry issues. And that's exactly the one you posted. Do better research.

That fact that he kept the video up shows how pathetic and desperate he is for clicks.
linux having better performance in many benchmarks even with layer like wine or proton is no secret and not something new, maybe is only new to you, feel free to test in you Ally X if you want or check any other benchmark of a person of your preference
Again with the cherry picking. What I'm showing you is Linux shitting the bed in his own testing. How much time did he spend trying to resolve this issue on the supposedly simple and easy to use OS before he gave up on it and instead went about flapping his gums making excuses for Linux in his video.
This is like a month old news my guy.
Interesting to see his thoughts on the first official third party device with SteamOS after testing the Windows version a while ago.

Yes Windows overhead is harsh on the Legion Go.

You guys made a good effort in both circle jerking and cherry picking your "data" hard enough to make it look to the commoner, non vegan I guess, like you had some points.A statement as silly as that doesn't even merit a response. I wasn't arguing the tools are exclusive, since both Linux & Windows use stuff like dgvoodoo2 for DirectDraw, D3D3/5/6/7 games. Merely the ease of use because Proton bundles in tools like DXVK automatically.DXVK and other tools are a thing on Windows too, not some proton/wine exclusive, so older DirectX games are mostly a non issue on Windows.
Absolute tatters. Holy shit.Again with the cherry picking.

It's pretty clear who's butt you are licking, this is nothing new, MS has proven its ability to get people like you to carry their water, I just hope you are getting something interesting in return.
Please, keep in mind that benchmarks had feelings before you skewed them.
