Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Ohhhhh, that's what that is. I just thought the whole thing was DI. Damn. :lol

Much easier to see in brawl:

SDI_Snake_Brawl.gif

They said they tested this with a smart bomb (multi hit moves/items are always easier to smash di, to make it posible to get away)

So we're all assuming the tease at the end of Pac Man's trailer reveals G&W will be playable... could that perhaps mean Dark Pit is his own character as well?

Proved to be a fake.

Oh man I was expecting some more news specially on the Veteran department...

Specials moves are just abilities you swap out, there's no customization. Palutena is special because her special moves are completely unique, not just alterations of the original ones.

Mhh so that means that she is special because she got all those moves from Kid Icarus Uprising...
Ok I kinda got it now, thanks!

Holy shit, Pac-Man looks incredible. He was one of my most wanted newcomers, and Sakurai certainly did him justice.

I really hope that you understand the reference behind the picture. I really do. If you don't then feel free to ask me. Also wear avatar for two weeks.

Look like I won two bets so far.

Ryce for Little Mac, Mii and Pac Man bet
Boomstick for Pac Man or Ridley being in the game so Pac Man got in.

I will have avatars ready for both of you :)

And Boomstick is banned so I presumed three months ban or permabanned. I'll wait and see if he get unbanned or not.

So....is anyone afraid that character customization gives TOO many options? Like me?

I have always liked being able to "feel" out the game, but with so many move sets I feel like its overwhelming.

Need to see how custom moves will work with local multiplayer, will you pick a character then have a window show up allowing you to select which version of each special you want? Or do you have to have pre saved configurations? Is there a separate screen to select your custom specials after you pick your characters but before a stage? Will Mii Fighter bee one select where you then select your style, mii, and moves? Will it be 3 slots for each of the different styles? Or does Mii Fighters have to be preset ahead of time?

So many questions we won't know until later

Yup. I was alright with custom special variety, but adjusting things like character speed and power? =/

I have a lot of nostalgic with Pac-Man, and especially when I see this design, because I played Pac-Man World 1 and 2 a lot.

I am neutral on Pac-Man, but he looks good, and his design was perfectly captured!

So the 3DS Pacman stage is the PacMan game while the Wii U one is classic Namco games?

Also, I saw Abomasnow in this video , did anyone catch that earlier today?

Also noteworthy: at 0:45, Villager appears to grab Bowser out of the air. It looks like Bowser is just starting to jump when Villager nabs him, though it's possible his net just reaches down far enough to grab Bowser while he's standing on a lower level. Either way, it's pretty remarkable.

Well I think the game looks like a like a lot of fun! It's a shame to hear a lot of people so down on it, though.

Well we got a lot of information, most of which is completely new to the series. I think most people haven't really decided on how they feel about it yet. I for one am excited.

Super late, but just saw the trailer from this morning. New character, cool, whatever, but DAT CARTOON! I need that to be a real thing!

You think we might get full updates now instead of just POTD?

Like what Sakurai's been updating with over the last few hours such as the How To Play and Customization sections?

Wow Nintendo really went all in with Smash this year! Loved all the new stuff

Mii Fighter - They found a way to make Miis pretty cool! Crazy that they're looking like 3 complete characters rather than just 1. The reveal trailer was absolutely epic, I'm sure everyone loved Reggie finally joining the fight. Love that the theme with the Mii character right now is making them personal - totally fits with the whole idea of Miis. Not only do they have super customizable moves, they have totally customizable outfits! Killer character addition, cannot wait to have Mii battles with my friends. I'm thinking I'll go the blaster route but the other 2 look just as fun.

Palutena - I'm not personally as big a fan of Palutena as others, but she definitely looks cool. I'm more interested in that weird Dark Pit nod at the end of her trailer. So interesting that she functions similarly to the Miis in that instead of variations of existing moves, she just has a bunch of different moves to mix and match.

Figures - Great implementation. Looks like the ultimate training buddy for less competitive people. Definitely something fun to work with while wanting to stay offline. I imagine my friends and I will all get one figure and use them as a partner in 2 on 2 matches. Hopefully they reveal a Little Mac fig soon, or else I may have to settle for the Yosh.

Tourney/Show floor - Game looks beautiful on 3DS and Wii U. Can't wait to get my hands on both versions, it was good just to see more gameplay. Gotta admit 4 player FFA with items is a little too hectic for my eyes, the matches with low items were niiiiice. All the tourney hype was fun, but I was in it mostly for the gameplay.

Pac-Man - We all knew he would join the battle. Looks sweet, good design choice and added in that classic pizza pac goodness. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Looks like there's a bunch of extra game modes and stuff to do in both versions. It's gonna be a long road to October 3rd. Loving this game - looks like the biggest and best Smash yet. Hoping they announce some DLC plans just so there can be even MORE.

114 more days until release!

I know it's old by now, but I don't care. I'm just reading it.

Impressions and observations from invitational players:
http://meleeiton.me/2014/06/10/invitational-impressions/

Sounds like it could be the worst Smash game yet, or at least in contention. Hopefully the team at Nintendo is really listening to feedback. The grand finals of the invitational didn't look to hot either. And Sakurai's comment at today's roundtable inspires 0 confidence:

"When creating a game, we cannot just appeal to traditional fanbases. We need to reach out to new gamers, and cater to many target users."

Also, this is awful news if either point is remotely true:

Brawl was his idea of that too, right? Sounds like his plan to 'appeal to everyone' is to try and make the game play worse for the people that enjoy it most. :(

We'll see though. Even if it's the worst Smash, it will probably be great. And I'm probably just jumping to conclusions. We still know so little about this game.

You have to be out of your damn mind if you think that the MAJORITY of Smash players give a damn about anything on that list. I say this PREFERRING melee mechanics.

Guys remember you can turn off ALL customization.

Also regarding that, will Palutena be banned like Miis from online? :(

Nah Palutena seems to have a default move set but instead of slight variations to said moves she has 3 unique moves for each slot ala Mii Fighters. The difference is that mii fighters not only have custom moves but custom outfits, faces, and names. There is nothing to stop someone from using a name and mii something inappropriate. It looks like Sakurai doesn't want the Mii Fighters to have a default look and for online play he's trying to make everything default for ease of use. Combine that with the possibility of inappropriate names/faces/outfits and it was probably to make then a trio of extras.

He wasn't referring to majority of Smash players in the first place.
The biggest problem for me is that there's too much knockback. You get one hit and can't follow up with anything.
It was so weird seeing Kirby's down throw have that much knockback. Everytime Hbox did it, he could not follow up at all. It seemed to launch ZSS pretty far, even at low percents.
Eh...

There's tweaks to facial structure, but it's pretty much spot on with her Uprising art.
Eeek, that comparison does no favors.

I totally support and respect the competitive folks but claiming they're the ones who enjoy Smash Bros. the most isn't really fair
