Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

People say Nintendo should get into the shooter market, or make more shooters, or something like that.

And this is what they do.

Sometimes, you just gotta love Nintendo. :)

Are there any official screens/press kit screens?

Have the screens not been posted yet? Here they are, if not:

I wonder what other modes they could have in this game?

Assume more than one since refer to this as "Turf War"
I don't see Nintendo going for straight up Team Deathmatch

Maybe 2 v 2 v 2 v 2

Maybe like Control points or something

I don't know

The Treehouse demo really made this look fun. It looks so unique, and the mechanics all look satisfying. Glad to see Nintendo's take on the genre.

capture the flag where you drop the flag immediately if you touch the ground/walls that are the opponent's paint

control point where you need to fill a giant bucket with paint (so you are occupied while the opponent can attack you)

racing game 2v2v2v2 each team has 1 squid racer and 1 guy painting up hte track so their racer can go faster

and that's just off the top of my head

edit: an assassin multiplayer mode like assassin's creed perhaps?

This looks so freaking fun I wonder if it will be Mario Kart and Smash Level of fun in their respective genre because if it is I am so in!

Reggie said during his IGN appearance "We hope Splatoon will be to the shooting genre what Mario Kart has been to the kart racing genre." SOOOOOO.... that's an encouraging sign. My first impressions: this game looks absolutely fantastic. It might look very simple in nature but it's the first entry in a possible franchise. Additionally, it looks like honestly the most fun ever! Colorful, interesting gameplay dynamics, certainly both cooperative and competitive; despite the colorful nature, however, the environments shown in the trailer and gameplay footage from the Treehouse Live @e3 event all look every industrial and definitely not "typical Nintendo." I am so stoke about this game... unsure if we got a release date but I'm hoping it's out TOMORROW! Easily the most exciting original title shown at e3, with Uncharted 4, No Man's Sky, Captain Toad, Woolly World, and Sunset Overdrive following close behind (no particular order on those, but Uncharted 4 looks super stupid in all of the best ways).

I legit tuned this out the moment the orange paint started splattering everywhere in the introduction. I thought this was some negligible Nickelodeon game.

Couldn't be more wrong.

It's posts like these that make me really excited for this game. It looks like a lot of fun, glad people who've played it think the same.

I can already imagine the crazy fun GAF games we're gonna have. I hope there's offline pvp too, something like one with the TV the other with the gamepad.

It's crazy how dynamic the gameplay gets. One moment you're shooting the walls for points, the next you're getting shot at by the other team, causing you to turn into squid mode to run away. But then the other team is covering your paint with theirs so you're frantically trying to avoid the other color area. Then your friend backs you up and there's just this battle for territory happening. So much fun.

One other thing to point out is how well designed the one map was. There's multiple side alleys lead to higher ground on chokepoints for an advantage. And there are lower levels that help you get different angles on people above. Then there are gates that you could only pass by shooting paint and going under using squid mode.

Just an overall fun game that I'm really excited about. I can't wait to see what else they add

This looks so awesome. Here's how I hope they release it.

I want a "Staggered" release.

Online, multi-player demo release in December. Two character styles, random maps.
Game out in January or February for $49.99
Demo players can play with full Game Owner players.
Full Game has a single player mode, more online options, and.... HATS/COSTUMES.
Some costumes are DLC that you buy. Some costumes are earned in the game.
Full Game allows you to stream entire matches on Twitch.

That is what I want.

The more I watch gameplay of it the more I think their mechanics are perfect for some king of 'parkour' game mode where you just run some obstacle course as quick as possible using paint and your skills.

lol 'twas a joke

hahaha okay, wasn't sure. It wouldn't have surprised me if some xbone guy came in here and tried to troll. but yeah nintendo still has a ways to go with their account structure, but the online is pretty great! I would have loved some dynamic in-game chat options (turn on when I'm racing online with friends, turn off when racing against all weirdos lolol) but other than that absolutely flawless online gameplay!

That would make kind of sense since they can handle multiple projects nowadays and it really doesn't look like a typical EAD Kyoto project.

Good thing they're doing a new IP. :)

I was kinda meh on it at first since it looked like a game developed by a B team so I kinda zoned out, but then I rewatched the conference and paid attention to the walk thru and it blew my mind how creative and dynamic this game is. Honestly one of the most exciting looking titles to me aside from Rainbow 6. Bravo Nintendo. Get me more of this

I'm loving what Ive seen of this game. This is the new and different surprise I was hoping for, probably my favorite thing Ive seen at E3 so far.

Speed run challenges, yeeeees. Hopefully this game will come up with a lot of different modes.

Agreed! I was super stoked by the trailer but when I realized who it was developed by my hype went into triple overdrive! haha! I love that it's a totally new IP, and I've been on the "Mario Paintball IP" since Miyamoto announced that he was working on a new IP. I wasn wrong about that but at-least a AAA Nintendo studio is working on (hopefully) their next big IP (Project Giant Robot (ugh at the working title lol) and Project Defend(?) both look great though!)!!

The best part is EAD Toyko has already confirmed that they are working on a new Mario game (which I can only assume is the next mainline Mario and, given how Nintendo seems to be giving the Wii U the "3DS treatment" and going all-in on the great(?) and varied first-party games, I can assume that the next mainline Mario game is for Wii U.

Also slightly related/slightly unrelated, does recent push into cooperative campaign mode by Sony and the Third Parties, as shown in this year's e3, validate Nintendo/Super Mario 3D World at all?

I really like this. I'm not quite as excited for it as some of the other games announced. But it does sound really nifty. This is what I meant when I said in the Bullet Girls thread that I would be much more interested in first person shooters and third person shooters if they were cuter and less violent.

And this is just wonderful. It doesn't have all the sexy stuff. But it's much cuter and isn't macho. And it isn't as violent. Instead of shooting each other with guns, it's just paint. I really like that.

I like third person shooters like this.

During the Treehouse @e3 livestream they kept mentioning EAD Toyko if I'm not mistaken!!!! Makes me even more excited than the trailer did (spoilers: I've never been more hyped for a game).

To be fair, The Last Of Us: Remastered and GTA:V are right behind/tied with this, because I sadly went Wii/360 last year and missed out on TLOU and absolutely adored GTA:V and can't wait to experience it on the same platform that is bringing the true Next Gen experience in Uncharted 4!

As excited as I am for Smash, this is honestly the game I want to play most this very instant. Like I feel restless watching it because I want to control it myself.

I've been waiting for a Mario: Paintball game since the GameCube days (when Halo started getting huge and it was clear the "mainstream" trends were sports and FPSes). Glad to see they delivered while comprehending the base's fatigue with the "Mario" brand. I'm expecting fun from this release, but I'm expecting greatness from the sequels!!

Just thought of like two silly alternate modes.

One is like a co-op versus mode. Sort of like every team member gets different color ink and tries to color a picture. Other team can screw with you or wash off your paint.

The other would essentially be tic tac toe as you try to color three grids in a row.

This looks really fun. Loved the gameplay footage. Nintendo had the most surprises.

Microsoft lost me as a customer when I got a 360 and there was next to nothing fun/clever/interesting to play outside of Grand Theft Auto. Was 360/Wii last gen... happily Wii U/PS4 this gen... I get the best of the first-party effort with Nintendo and Sony first-and-second-party game, as well as the standard filler/moderately fun experiences that third-party can provide, a la Watch_Dogs (and I supposed GTA:A remastered).

I've been waiting for Nintendos take on FPS or TPS for a LONG time.
Was always hoping that they'd release like Mario Paintball or whatever...

This looks way better than I'd ever hoped.
May actually pick up a Wii U for this (haven't owned a Nintendo system other than Gameboys and a DS).

Splatoon |OT| Mod Quad Squid Squad

Reading more about this, I'm excited as hell. This looks so unique and fresh. Any Treehouse archives out there? I'm on my crappy phone, as usual.
