Liveblog thread for 3DS new Nintendo IP announcement (Code Name STEAM)

No one wants it to be a non-spinoff Metroid game more than me, but I see about a 1% chance that that happening. If they announce something like Hunters 2 that would be incredibly disappointing. I would be all for a remake of ROS a la ZM.

Yeah, if it's just Majora then I'd guess the 3DS is pretty much done and a successor will be announced next year and out next holiday season. No other reason to have so little first party effort on a platform with a decent install base.

This is what I'm thinking too. They have announced jack-shit for 3DS at the show so far this year. Here are all the 1st 3DS party games on their press site right now

- Fantasy Life
- Pokemon Art Academy
- Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire
- Layton vs Phoenix Wright
- Smash Bros

There is no way this is all they have for the rest of the year for 3DS. One of those isn't even a real game, it's an art application.

There are two tent-pole releases on this list: Smash Bros and Pokemon RS. I think it's safe to assume that whatever tonight's mystery game is, it's going to be a tent-pole release that will hopefully be out this year. That gives them three tent-pole releases for the year, and I seriously doubt that two-thirds of their major releases are going to be remakes. The secret game pretty much has to be new.

Guys. GUYS.

You know what that is.
Youn know it's Majora's Mask.

And you know you'll love it because ... well, because it's so awesome I can't even begin to think how good the remake will be.

Could be anything, but I'm thinking and expecting it might be that sequel to Resident Evil Revelations that was rumored by credible sources.

I really think it will be a first-party Nintendo game. But yeah, weren't there a bunch of credible rumours for a new Resident Evil game to be announced at E3? What's up with that? Closed doors demo?

I still have to buy Kirby and Etrian Oddissey 4, I'm happy they confirmed SMTIV coming to PAL regions, Smash seems great, Fantasy Life localization is awesome and now we just saw announced Final Fantaasy Explorer...give me Zelda MM3d or (better) Metroid Dread and this will be another great year for my 3DS!!

I'll admit I haven't watched too closely to everything that's gone on this week, but has Capcom done anything outside of that Dead Rising DLC? It'd be cool to see something new from them.

No idea, Capcom has been super silent most of E3. And I feel they must know somethings up, as conveniently the day that E3 started, they made Resident Evil Revelations on sale on several different platforms, and only Revelations, none of their other games. And the sale literally ends when E3 ends.

But a Deep Down trailer just released this morning, so maybe Capcom are making announcements today?

It has to be Majora, else I might as well just donate my 3DS to my wife. It's been an Animal Crossing machine ever since after Zelda...

Maybe this is that S.T.E.A.M. thing? We have seen this trademark pop out a lot recently, and we still have no idea what it is.

If Nintendo's idea of an impressive holiday lineup for the 3DS includes a Pokemon Remake and a Zelda Remake and nothing else, they may as well stop developing games entirely.

The secret game has to be new. There is no way it's another remake.

So the solution to having no games on a platform with a 50M install base is to make games for a brand new platform with zero install base?

Nah. There's no reason to think the 3DS will get a successor in 2015. The Vita isn't posing anywhere near as much a threat as the PSP was during the same time frame, and they just announced a smartphone -> 3DS connectivity thingy.

I'm guessing the 3DS will keep going as long as Nintendo possibly can, given that their next console and handheld are going to be designed to be "siblings"... ie I doubt the 3DS successor will launch several years ahead of the Wii U's successor.

Smash exists you know, and while it might feel like a throw away version with the 3ds install base it wouldn't surprise me if it outsells the Wii U version.

Pokemon Remake*2, Zelda Remake.

That makes 3 million sellers, and given how OOT moved HW, a great(-ly needed) boost for the 3DS. This looks to me like the perfect time to fire these very safe, yet very effective shots.

It says nothing about it being a new game.

I agree with this. Plus, the 3DS getting less software is just the consequence of Nintendo having to shift resources towards the Wii U. Nintendo has never had enough manpower to have consistent first/second party releases on both their platforms. We saw this last gen with the Wii dying an early death as they shifted to 3DS development. The Wii U also suffered because of this. I believe the 3DS has at least three years of life left in it before it's successor comes out, be that a stand alone machine or part of some sort of hybrid.

I'm all in on #TeamAdvanceWars. Although I'm ready to have my dreams crushed if it is something like that FF MH clone. A new Metroid or MM would be golden, though.

Can we get Majora, new Metroid, DQ7 and something else (maybe a third-party game of note that isn't Final Fantasy/Bravely Default/Monster Hunter/a JRPG)? This is where the Internet would explode if Capcom was like "here is a new Mega Man game" or something.

I want to see Nintendo and company pushing 3DS this year into 2015!

They're announcing a new game.

Has to be Majora's mask. The signs in ALBW and Zelda Williams doing something something special at E3. It has to be!

Smash is out in October, which ironically is typically when Pokemon gets released. I suppose maybe they switched them around to avoid both the Smash games coming out on the same day (presuming that Smash for Wii U comes out the Sunday before Black Friday, which is almost certainly will).

But even if they did that, a Majora remake would still leave them with two-thirds of their major holiday releases being remakes, and I just don't see that happening. It would also be bonkers to release TWO remakes as the only 3DS games in November. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm not saying the Majora remake doesn't exist, I'm just saying it won't be what they talk about tonight and it won't be out this year.

Nintendo needs a Summer and a Holiday release title; hopefully Nintendo will unveil two games at E3, one today and one tomorrow :)

Yep it really seems like Nintendo 1st party already is working on software for new handheld. There's nothing announced for next year.

This hype gonna bigger.

What if this is ultra-casual game like nintendogs? Then this thread gonna explode in diffrent meaning.

The interesting thing about this is that Nintendo may begin to focus more on localizing quality Japanese 3DS games to make up for it. Fantasy Life being the first example, which has been out for forever in Japan and is only now coming out. Then Dragon Quest VII and Bravely Default 2 could follow...

1 and a half hours on a Majoras mask rerelease doesn't sound likely to me. I think it will be

-Metroid
-S.T.E.A.M
-Different IP

I'm going to be super bummed if it's another Zelda game. It's just about the only Nintendo series I'm not interested in and we've already gotten a remake and a brand new game for the system.

Mm is a huge possibility but would they do a dev roundtable for same remake of a game that is using the same engine on all odds as the OOT Remaster?
