It would be weird to have a sequel to MM without having MM on the platform, as much as I'm all for rounding it out, making a Hero of Time trilogy.
Hopes and dreams.
Letting aside the technical stuff, I think having Prime on 3DS would be hard control-scheme-wise.

They also showed a trailer for the Pokemon remake, but yeah, definitely a focus on Wii U.
I was thinking the same thing about a new handheld.

Yes it was a few 3ds games but Zelda was the lead game there.
I would expect something similar tonight. Zelda MM being the focus. Some really small details on Zelda Wii U. And maybe some focus on other 3ds games. And people are way too caught up on 90 minutes. It's not going to go 90 minutes.

I want it to be a good new Metroid game, but let's not fool ourselves: they are going to reveal Majora's Mask on 3DS. We were given a pretty big hint yesterday:
Most likely. Which equals selling off my 3DS as I don't care about MM and there's nothing announced I want to play. I haven't touched my 3DS since January.

It was about time, they kept focusing on 3DS even when the WiiU was in dire need of attention. A new handheld so soon though, no way.

Metroid Prime: Hunters already showed us that it can be done. Though I agree that the solution is less-than-elegant.
Anyway, I really hope this is a new 2D/2.5D Metroid game. I've been dying for one of those since basically forever at this point.
I would be shocked if Nintendo held secret a remake of Majora's Mask for this event. That is not something you keep secret. If anything it's something you just glaze over when announcing other games. There's no way they would block off all the time for a developer discussion session just to reveal a Majora's Mask remake. There couldn't possibly be enough to talk about. It has to be something new, something worth "discussing".

Unless Nintendo gave her that mask... i think that's just proclaiming that she's a majora's mask fan. If you follow her on twitter, you'd know her favorite zelda game is majora's mask. I think that's all the mask was.
Yep, that's my point. A 2D diorama-like Metroid on 3DS would be dope though.

I just figured going in that it's about time for one. Because Retro just got done with Tropical Freeze, if they even were to be making a Metroid game for Wii U, it wouldn't be ready to show for a long while now (and if anyone is making a Wii U Metroid game, it should be them).
That leaves the 3DS, which has gotten its big Mario and Zelda games, not to mention Mario Kart, Luigi's Mansion, Kid Icarus, Smash Bros. on the horizon, etc. It makes sense for Metroid to be next in line.
All that said, I would be thrilled with anything Majora's Mask-related, as it's my second favorite game ever behind only Ocarina. But at this very moment in time, I'd rather see something new on the Metroid front.

I'm sure a lot of people will be happy with MM, but I'd be way more excited for an all-new 3D Zelda that follows in the footsteps of OoT/MM. Same type of game experience but just an all-new adventure.

Zelda Williams did have Majora's Mask with her on stage last night...
I doubt she randomly has a giant Majora's Mask prop laying around. How could she even get that into the building without their blessing?
She also said the invitational wasn't her E3 "surprise". She could be there to market the remake.

If you noticed with their digital event, there wasn't much focus on 3DS games. I only remember Smash and Ruby/Sapphire. And seeing as how they're doing a roundtable for one game, I'm guessing it'll be fairly important.

Pikmin 3 was revealed at one of these discussions years ago. Nintendo never follows the norms.
Also, their whole strategy with E3 this year especially seems to be spreading out announcements over the course of the show so that their fans will be constantly glued to their computers. Why announce it all at once and then have nothing to talk about when you can be constantly revealing stuff over 3 days and constantly getting more and more news stories up after everybody else is done revealing their own stuff.

As long as we hope for a Metroid, it'll never be a Metroid.
I've gone into every E3 since 2010 hoping that we'd get a glimpse of a new Metroid game. I think it's hard not to feel it's coming at some point since Metroid Prime had such a profound impact on both the series and first-person games in general. And despite what many like to say, it sold well. So there's no reason to not expect it at some point. I just think it's more likely next E3 since we've already seen a lot of 2015 titles.DXLelouch153

I hope it's a new IP with a deep story line, Nintendo certified gameplay, amazing music and gorgeous graphics. I would settle for Majora's Mask, though.

The Digital Event was clearly more as a campaign to save the Wii U. This separate event, which Nintendo is absolutely hyping, is so that this 3DS game gets its own little spotlight.
What have you been playing while waiting for metroid?

It was her appearance at the Smash invitational. Give us either new IP or something with Metroid. I love Majora but at this point I want to see something from Nintendo that shows they are still working on first party content for the 3DS that isn't remakes. Smash Bros this year is amazing but what do they have for us after that is what I want to know and let's hope it isn't just retreads of games we have already played.

Yeah, if it's just Majora then I'd guess the 3DS is pretty much done and a successor will be announced next year and out next holiday season. No other reason to have so little first party effort on a platform with a decent install base.
