Liveblog thread for 3DS new Nintendo IP announcement (Code Name STEAM)

I'm going to be super bummed if it's another Zelda game. It's just about the only Nintendo series I'm not interested in and we've already gotten a remake and a brand new game for the system.

This is what I'm thinking too. They have announced jack-shit for 3DS at the show so far this year. Here are all the 1st 3DS party games on their press site right now

- Fantasy Life
- Pokemon Art Academy
- Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire
- Layton vs Phoenix Wright
- Smash Bros

There is no way this is all they have for the rest of the year for 3DS. One of those isn't even a real game, it's an art application.

There are two tent-pole releases on this list: Smash Bros and Pokemon RS. I think it's safe to assume that whatever tonight's mystery game is, it's going to be a tent-pole release that will hopefully be out this year. That gives them three tent-pole releases for the year, and I seriously doubt that two-thirds of their major releases are going to be remakes. The secret game pretty much has to be new.

I believe Fossil Fighters Infinite Gear is a first party game, and that has not been confirmed for a US/EU release IIRC. I do doubt they are making a roundtable for that, though.

Has to be Majora's mask. The signs in ALBW and Zelda Williams doing something something special at E3. It has to be!

She was at the smash tourney playing. I assume that was it.

She walked out with a big majora mask tho lol

Lack of 3ds games seems due to all hands on deck to save wiiu

What's with everyone clamouring to sell their 3DSs? I still can't believe people routinely do this, what can you get for it, like $80?

I don't understand how people don't have anything to play, my 3DS backlog is absolutely massive, I'm struggling to get through all the games that are already out, let alone smash and Pokemon this year

Nintendo needs a Summer and a Holiday release title; hopefully Nintendo will unveil two games at E3, one today and one tomorrow :)

Smash was supposed to be the Summer title. Earlier this year they told us it would be out this summer, now it's been delayed to October. I think that delay also required them to push Pokemon back to November, so as not to crowd October. Nintendo traditionally releases Pokemon games in September/October now-a-days. They have never released one in November.

We won't get a big summer 3DS game now that Smash has been delayed.

Mm is a huge possibility but would they do a dev roundtable for same remake of a game that is using the same engine on all odds as the OOT Remaster?

This exactly. MM is a huge possibility to exist in general, but I think the chances of it being tonight's game reveal are nearly 0%. There is no way they would devote an entire roundtable to a fucking remake.

1 and a half hours on a Majoras mask rerelease doesn't sound likely to me. I think it will be

-Metroid
-S.T.E.A.M
-Different IP

I'm quoting you so we get the chance to mock each other once the event has unveiled the glorious "Nintendogs 3 : Bunny :3"

Amazing.....I w ant all of those, minus art academy cause I can't draw, my gf might want it though.

They did for OOT3D.

My memory is poor then. But I seriously doubt they would do it again for MM. It sort of makes sense the first time around but I find it really hard to see them doing it again since most of the questions would be identical to the OOT roundtable.

Edit: See the below post from Shikamaru Ninja. That makes much more sense. Now, I could totally seeing MM remake being announced at this event in a similar way, but I would be absolutely shocked if MM was the focus of the event.

What if they announce, say, Metroid Prime Trilogy for the 3DS? Since it is a trilogy, they would have enough stuff to talk about in 90 minutes.

They did for OOT3D.

If it's of a similar vein to OOT3D (which it probably will be, as I can't imagine them devoting any more effort to this than they did the most popular Zelda of all time)

"Here you can see it's the MM you know and love... with super nice textures."

For an hour or so? Not likely.

Just not excited about a Majora remake. It isn't up there in terms of Zelda games for me, despite it having a neat atmosphere and being a decent game overall. The Clock Town intro is the worst intro in any Zelda IMO. I don't enjoy running around doing mundane tasks in Zelda and I think the game design in general is very convoluted due to the time cycle. It's not that it's hard or anything, it's just full of shit that I didn't find to be any fun.

Now, if a remake were to streamline that stuff, we'd be talking because otherwise it's an okay game that is saved mostly for me due to its atmosphere, but if it's a straight up remake just prettied up, I really don't see myself getting too excited.

The rabid Majora fans are going to destroy you. And the remake would undoubtedly be a simple texture upgrade like OOT3D, courtesy of Grezzo.

I'd be happy with that, I quite like those games lol

Do we know how this is going to be shown? I mean is it a pre recordered direct style thing or what?

I don't know when or where I should tune in!

I had heard they were going to talk about the new game at like 9am PST. I must be way off.

I mean, I'm just trying to think of games that would take 90 minutes to explain.

In the Smash roundtable yesterday time flew by. 90 minutes aren't really much, especially when 30 minutes are for questions.

Sakurai revealed Pac-Man and explained a bunch of things about Smash Run and customization. That was it.

Also take into account the constant need of translation, for explanations, questions and answers.

I don't think the series is so high profile that it'd get its own event. I think either a Majora's Mask remake, or Monolithsoft's 3DS RPG seem like big contenders.

Though that assumes either one of those exists, especially the latter. We've heard nothing on that title for years.

Majora deff exists
too many hints and youd be a fool to think otherwise

I'm sort of hoping it's not Metroid or Zelda..

...just because part of me really wants it to be their Seaman game... Mysterious Pet: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face.

After the successful Fire Emblem, they have to make a new Advance Wars :( . I want a new Advance Wars more than Halo 2...that's insanity.
