Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

So since character DLC is all but confirmed what are people's thoughts on if future Ammibos were alternate ways to get DLC? Like say in 6 months when the Luciana DLC comes out, you can buy her for $5 on the e-shop or pick up her Amiibo for I guess $10? and get the DLC data along with the figure?

Nice packaging :)

i think for me personally it would depend on the character i would for luciana :P

The Pit amiibo is so detailed. Fuck, now I have to buy it.

This is probably the closest I'm ever gonna get to an official Palutena statue, anyway.

I might buy all the figurines for collection purposes, never to be opened. Wii Fit Trainer will not be purchased sorry lol.

Edit: Truly expensive hobby :P

The packaging on those amiibos are nice. I'd probably won't be able to use it on any wii games since I'd hesitate to open them up in the first place.

not sure if posted:
http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/27xodk/detailed_impressions_from_1hr_worth_of_total/

this is pretty exciting:
"PIVOT CANCELING NEW META: Out of a dash, if you pivot, you can cancel into a jab/tilt/smash/grab out of the animation. Really fast, and will be a hugely important mechanic. I found it by accident while attempting to pivot grab."

not sure if I understand correctly, but if you can cancel a dash into a tilt that's a pretty big deal.

The Kirby amiibo is so adorable that I think I'll buy it for its cuteness alone.

For the sake of my wallet, I promise to buy only one. Unless they also make a Luigi amiibo. Or an Ike one.

I just wonder how the cross game capabilities work. I mean will Mario be the best to buy because his will likely be supported in the most games?

OK, so if they're pricing the figurines similar to Skylanders' $10-$15, let's round up to $20 to be safe, and let's say there are 50 characters in the roster. That's only an extra $1,000 you need to spend to have the complete SSB experience (well, $1,100 with the 3DS and WiiU games). Sweet!

(random thoughts)

About smash 4 having limited movement options (which is disappointing):

One of the fundamental aspects of any nintendo game is the gameplay and the control that you have over your character. Also, aside from how you "kill" your oponents, movement is the thing that differentiates smash from other fighting games the most. Because of how you can freely move around a stage in different ways + using platforms, you can approach your opponent from many different angles and ways. Its a really "open" fighting game...

Thanks to all the control that you had over your character in melee, you could move around the stage in a fluent and fast way (both in the ground and the transition from ground to platforms, from a platform to another and from platforms to the ground). Having that control was just fun. I am just talking about moving your character around and nothing more.

Movement options and the control that you had over your character were really limited in brawl in comparison with melee. So, that limited the game.

I think that that alone is enough for being against the change in brawl and (supposedly) smash 4. Now, if you were not aware of those movement options from melee (like myself until a couple of years ago or so :P), this problem does not exist for you (i am not saying that it would be a "problem" for you, only that it could be).

Marths mobility in melee is so cool (:O). Its not in brawl, and it seems that its not in smah 4. (i am using marth as an example)

Still, i am going to play as much smash 4 as all of you!! (i easily played more than 1000 hours of brawl with friend a loooot of years ago).

I made this post because i think that it would be easy for anyone to see that change from melee. I mean that, if you didnt know about the "advanced" melee game when you played it (i didnt back then, but luckily i still have my gamecube with the game), you dont need to learn all about that crazy game to begin to see by yourself why many people dont want to change from melee. I think that using just some hours to learn and try those movement options would be enough. You dont need to go for something as crazy as fox/falco to see it. Marth is a great and easy example ;P

Anyone else think the intro of the Pac Man trailer was fantastic?

The red and blue, the heavy bass sound with headphones, and the whole Pac-Man forming from yellow.

It's really, really well done. Also, I absolutely LOVED the Iwata/Reggie showdown.

Don't want anymore third party characters after the Pac Man reveal. These guys are all I'd want in this. Bomber man, Banjo and Rayman would be cool but for me it has to be these three only. The current ones all just make sense. This game is getting way too exciting now.

So has Ike's by the look of it. It seems that Sakurai is keen on reducing the range of disjointed hit boxes.

i think his final smash has a bigger hit box though i think for marth maybe sakurai is trying to give him the feel of a close range fighter? i think the falchion at least in his game wasnt that long a sword either but i dont know lol

Rayman... makes sense...

I thought that this was really funny: (from puncays stream)

"How to win a brawl tournament: Enter. No one else will."

(sorry brawl players. I am ok with brawl)

Do we know if the Miis will count as a single character (with one tile on the character screen) or will they be three separate ones?

We know nothing, expect those information from the trailer. I would like to know, if there are Standard Miis, which can be used for Random-Online-Matches.

For those wanting see the product packaging for Amiibo for Super Smash, look at the link:

They are quite cute :D

I wonder how easy it would be to break one, WFT's arm is out so far would it break off if I dropped it

also lots of sharp edges hope parents do not try to sue or get them recalled

also hope they do not become a hot holiday item raising prices and making them hard to find

Rayman's inclusion was delayed.

The news that Miis won't be available for random online is dumb dumb DUMB! Just make it so one can only use the NNID Mii if you're so worried about bullying Sakurai, even though said reason makes no sense whatsoever.

Has there been any hint or whisper of Ness returning? I can live without JigglyPuff, but Ness was my boy.

I'm pretty sure Ness, C. Falcon, and Jiggs are all in. Most likely won't be revealed ubtil the game's launch. Sakurai made a comment about how Luigi got an exception to being revealed before launch because of the year of Luigi. Besides, we've seen the Franklin Badge already in one of the screenshots to the WiiU version.

You'll still be able to use the Miis in online battles against friends so that's something, I guess.

They probably feel like they have a good reason for it.

I hope they have a tourney mode like Kart and setting it to private will count as "with friends". But seeing as other Wii U online games are ok with Miis and even the main services of the system, Miiverse and Wara Wara plaza, rely on them, it's a bit silly to suddenly get concerned over strangers seeing ones Mii.

I love that Pac-Man taunt that Sakurai used at the start.

Yeah I don't really get it, or like it, either. But I suppose I'll get over it, eventually.

Has this been posted yet? First gameplay of Pac Man done by Sakurai http://youtu.be/xatGlrcGaQo
Sakurai's first move in the match: Taunting!

I think the problem is, that you are violent to the Mii character. People could create, for example, a lot of Obamas, only so that people can beat him up.

That's why I said they could at least tie it to the NNID Mii. I know there's nothing stopping one from changing their NNID Mii, but that's awkward and people don't always want to change their display name for the sakes of one online match.

Do I understand it correctly that customizable moves won't be available for online vs anyone?
If so that's a bit of a letdown since I love stuff like this, don't see why it would be a problem in "Just for Fun" mode.

I really want to know how much space is on each of those toys. I also wonder if they'd ever consider making a special NFC card for Smash that can store all of your settings on it but that might cross over with the Amiibos too much. I could see that being used at tournaments if they embrace tweaking the movesets for balance.

Let's pay tribute to the goddess

Wow, she looks so elegant and incredible! So happy to see her in the game. :D

Still holding hope that the leaker mixed them up with Marshal since the leaker already failed to specify Greninja and I really want to see Night Walk representation since it's my favorite Rhythm Heaven thing ever. But fuck it, I'm hyped all the same. Rhythm Heaven baby!

Yesyesyes! You are my new best friend. :3 The Japanese version is just as catchy AND it's almost two minutes longer!

fuck all this lucas being cut talk

Couldn't agree more. Given the context, I'm inclined to believe that we won't be seeing him again. Rest in peace, my fair Lucas...

From the BB event (5 hours in line to play one round...), but I was surprised that Smash Bros. looks pretty incredible on the 3DS. At this point I am much more stoked for that version than the Wii U one and also this close to upgrading to an XL because of it...

Yeah, I'm mostly a Melee player, though I really like SSB64 as well. Given Sakurai's comments, I was expecting something like SSB64, but it wasn't anywhere near that. I spent quite a bit of time observing Mario's punches, jumps, etc. and if there was difference, I didn't see it.

That's disappointing. SSB64 is still the best Smash gameplay wise. I was hoping to see favorable comparisons to that one.

There are Gigabytes of space on very small USB-flash-drives, the Amiibos are going to support multiple games and they only need to hold data for some variables. I guess space wont be a problem.

Yeah, has there been a pic of it on the OG 3DS/2DS?

My Gamecube arrived today, and Melee should not be far behind.

The two wired controllers are mint condition, but the analog stick on the wavebird is horrid, guess it's had heavy use. How easy is it to replace? And where to get my hands on a genuine replacement stick?

Which completely misses the point of using a Mii. Unless it's Reggie's or Iwata's Mii.
Oh I totally agree but if Nintendo's reasoning as to why they won't allow Miis is because of bullying then they could make the default Mii the playable Mii instead of cutting the entire character from online play.
