E3 2014 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 [ it's over :( ]

I was lucky enough to briefly meet him at an E3 about 10 years ago. I have never met a more happy person. It was infectious.

Agreed, met Miyamoto at my very first e3 at the Nintendo/Sega roundtable in 2001 (site of the infamous nintendojo lets ask miyamoto a question in japanese event). Got my photo with him that day, it was special and amazing. Such a nice man.

I've had the pleasure of meeting him numerous times since and he's always been pleasant.

Another figure like that is Charles Martinet. An incredibly nice and sincere guy, they sure know how to pick their talent.

edit: here's the photo! Goddamn I was young.

not a fan of the artstyle or the palette but it looks very sound mechanically. hope you can control the camera with frankenstick.

It's not even a matter of the art style being bad, it's the art direction that's all over the place: the enemies seems to be in one style, the characters in another one, same for the maps, the effects and the interface, looks like a bunch of things put together from different games.

(Nintendo HQ, circa 2013..)

Intelligent Systems exec: Our extremely Japanese, anime-influenced Fire Emblem: Awakening was a surprise hit in the West. How should we capitalize on its success?

Nintendo exec: Well certainly another turn-based strategy game is in order.

Intelligent Systems: Awakening followup?

Nintendo: Nah, too soon.

Intelligent Systems: Advance Wars?

Nintendo: (laughs)

Intelligent Systems: What, then?

Nintendo: .......

Intelligent Systems: .......

(Both executives' eyes widen, as they look up at each other and scream in unison)

Nintendo and Intelligent Systems: ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND AMERICAN COMICS VS. ALIENS!

Intelligent Systems: With graphics from 2008?

Nintendo: Fuck yes. Clearly that is what our fans in the West want.

Somehow I'm not feeling it. It looks neat, loving the steampunk setting, the artwork isn't bad, and while the game itself looks a bit less than stellar from a technical standpoint that doesn't bother me, really. I guess I'll need to watch some more footage.

I think they should really stylize the whole game a lot more, especially the environments. A trailer or direct feed gameplay would be nice, want to hear the music better.

Haha, actually this seems plausible... :(

Sure, it's possible that they just happened to want to make this game that's crammed with things that they would think are popular outside of Japan such as American comics, third person shooters, and steampunk design. But as Intelligent System's first turn-based strategy to follow the massive success story (compared to previous Emblems) that was FE:A? Hmm.

This looks like a game Nintendo picked up from a Western company. I hope the gameplay makes up for the slightly weird art style.

Did you hear that? He corrected the interpreter. He knows enough English to know he didn't say it right.

Not watching the stream but are you talking about Miyamoto? I think he speaks English very well. A couple times on Tuesday he was answering questions without Trinen translating them.

Yes. That's my major problem with everything. I really like the enemy designs, the character design not so much, the pixel art of the scenery looks simple and don't work very well with the rest. And the UI is pretty meh.
