Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

Haha, NCL rooted out Treehouse in the last round, though the first round started less than stellar for NCL. Good fun.

If they could do 2-4 player splitscreen online, this would be one of my most wanted games. Looks like a blast to play.

The more I see this the more interested I become. I really hope there's some kind of splitscreen play (like MK8, 2 players can play splitscreen online simultaneously), Nintendo seems to be the only company that cares about couch play these days. Thank god indies are at least still supporting it.

They are thinking of adding it, so you could have that wish.

is there official art of the characters yet?

There's a little in the press release, but not much.

Will it have split-screen at all? Looks like quite a graphically intense game and using the gamepad for the super jumps isn't impossible to replicate by holding a button, but the tactics of the game would change a lot when you can't see the whole battlefield on a mini-map.

On the other hand it would be very un-Nintendo to release a game like this with no local multiplayer, so I've got to imagine it is coming in some form. Mario Kart 8 has 2 players online per console, so I think that's most likely.

The perfect reason to allow multiple gamepads. :D

If it had co-op splitscreen online, maybe the person with the gamepad could launch their co-op playmates?

I can imagine 2-player online co-op no problem. Granted, two local players play on the same team, along with 2 others over the net VS 4 opponents.

One player has the gamepad and can see the map and control their jumps. The other player simply doesn't have constant access to the map (but could have it on a button) and could rely on the gamepad player for updates on the state of the map. Not a huge deal, IMO.

There really does need to be a mode where somebody is Mario armed with fludd vs both teams to clean up the ink.

Nintendo will listen! Everybody tweet them!

I obviously can't comment on your gameplay concerns, but dismissing it as a some kind of shooter because the one map and mode they showed in the demo isn't focused on crushing your opponents by shooting them in the face is like saying capture the flag and point control are not valid game modes for more classic shooters ...
The game itself isn't really PvP focused at the mechanics level. You can essentially go invincible at will by morphing and regenerate damage.

Would be kind of a perfect 2 player splitscreen game to play online..

One person use gamepad... other person use Remote and chuck... seems like it matches perfectly .

Nope. Keep mario out please. Its a great idea, how about we just give the fludd to the opposing team. One team had to clean and the other has to paint. Or make it a weapon in DLC.

I think neutral zone "waterfalls/streams" would be an interesting concept. Basically streams of water that either team can jump into and zoom through but can't paint.

Err, no? When you morph you are vulnerable too, plenty of players have died while diving in the ink on stream. I've read reports that you die in one hit if you are under the ink, but at the very least hiting the spot around you will limit your movement options if not outright killing you because of the damage

Have they mentioned anything about offline single player? Like some form of bot mode or anything? Not a dealbreaker, but after Titanfall I quickly realized I'm not the biggest fan of online multiplayer only games, and a single player "campaign" or bot mode would be nice to practice before going online.

Here's the official art from the media kit:

Have you been watching much of this game? One of the reasons one might want to go invisible is to pop out and shoot their foe by surprise. There are a lot of strategies that could be utilized with the ink such as placing a little ink splotch in a sea of the enemies ink and waiting to pop out kill anyone who comes by. Or maybe hide inside the walls and get someone when they come down from above.

Having multiple variables and not strictly focusing on just killing the opponent its what makes this game unique in the shooter genre and will allow many strategies and variety in gameplay, which the standard shooter is lacking.

When you're in the paint they can change the color, by painting over you, at which point you start taking damage and pop out of the ink. Your movement is also slowed.

It isn't in the game yet, but they are working on adding it.

Oh wow, didn't know those drawings were official, they look so good! I wonder if they used Art Academy for that look (hah, I know, they've got the expensive programs on their fancy computers, but I've seen things that have that natural media style posted on the Art Academy Miiverse).

I said 'essentially invincible' because you can just retreat outside of range to avoid the death. Head hunting didn't feel like a productive use of time, and it felt like I was contributing more by kiting the enemy and shooting empty rooms.

I liked it on paper but it's not really for me in its current state. Really all I wanted to do was parkour on paint and pick off the other team but it's not Titanfall: Paint Edition. The mechanics and controls don't support that style of play. Maybe it's my fault for not doing my homework on the game before playing it because they never promised that.

That sounds awesome. Or in one of the modes (like if they had like 2v2v2v2 kind of deal) one of the teams could be dressed like Mario and have fluud and just fuck over the other teams since they won't be able to win anyways. lol.

I agree that a clean up mode sounds awesome, but can we please not put Mario in this. Seriously. Just give one of the Inklings a supersoaker that cleans and be done with it.

I wouldn't mind if they manage to put Mario and other nintendo franchises as cosmetic items, think of tf2 but with Nintendo items instead of hats

There's no option to turn off motion controls in that demo at E3. As someone said, they did confirm it will be available later. Most likely it was focus testing with that control, but my entire team lamented the motion controls.

Yeah read that after I posted, sucks that you couldn't try another control method. Hey ho. Did you try smash?

Probably not in this Smash. If the game does okay Inkling will be squidding her way into Smash 5.
I strongly suspect this iteration of Smash will have DLC just like every other fighting games does now. Would not be surprised, if the game does well, to see her in a DLC pack.

PvP options are likely to increase with the addition of new weaponry, maps, and modes built around attacking the opposition for some kind of advantage (like only being able to gain coverage with explosion paint). What I hope will happen are expansions to the number of players on any one team...4v4 is pretty small, and people are used to larger teams these days.

I made a thing.. sort of.. well.. kind of..

But I'm having trouble embedding it because I sure as hell don't want to upload it to my Youtube where it would be copyright IDed to death. :-(

So, I'm sorry.

Actually. I have no idea how to embed video that I am hosting myself into a webpage. >_< I was never good with that. It's a WMV.

I was thinking it.. and I made it.. and it kind of works with the lyrics..

Anyhow, I need some help embedding stuff on my own site.. away from the evil tentacles of Youtube. I like to.. own things I spend a little time on.
