Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Naughty Dog) Shown - 2015

The Order is a cross gen bullshit? Cause this shit makes it look like a 16 bit game, Sorry but i don't believe this, I just can't, nothing even come close to this.

RAD doesn't have anywhere the near the resources or budget that Naughty Dog does. This is their first time developing a AAA game and they're doing it from scratch on a brand new engine. It's incredible to see what they've accomplished with The Order but the situations are totally different.

So Uncharted

1: Jungle
2: Snow
3: Desert
4: Jungle Again?, where's my WATER/Caves/Shoreline GODDAMMIT!, I need ND Atlantis Visualized!

I swear to god if I have to revisit that fucking Cathedral from UC1, and see what the mutants have been up to, I'll be super pissed, but if Zombie Eddy Raja King of his people is in it, GAME ON MOTHERFUCKERS!

Uhhh... you saw one tiny snippet here- barely anything to go by, given the last 2 games traversed half the world and covered far more than just snow and desert... Who's to say this one won't have water/caves/shorelines... goddamnit?!

So Gamespot interviewed John DiMaggio, Nolan North and Troy Baker and they mentioned they're all doing a motion performance capture together on a project they couldn't specify. They don't say it is or isn't Uncharted but that would be one hell of a cast to have.

Found a short interview where Nolan North briefly comments on what Amy Hennigs departure meant to him and Uncharted 4:

He says that he's gonna do something special with Hennig in the future, so imo it's pretty plausible that it was the upcoming Star Wars game they were referring to in that interview.

Holy flying shit. That is all kinds of epic :D!

I was moderately impressed when I saw the teaser during the press conf stream, but I lost it upon watching the Gamersyde just now.

Dat 60fps brings a whole new level of awesomeness. Crazy stuff.

FINALLY!
http://www.naughtydog.com/site/post/uncharted_4_a_thiefs_end_2014_e3_trailer/

we can show this. so much amazing hard work went into making this a reality. i was speaking with Eli who teaches at the Art Institute and we got to talking about iteration. so i thought i'd share a bit of how that last great image came into being. it started first with a single gibbet, then Neil Druckmann asked, "can we add more?" so we started exploring the compositions of what that meant. once the scene got blocked out in 3D Shaun Escayg plused it Maya. (check out his amazing short film) http://vimeo.com/94712566
and then Aaron Limonick suggested adding more mountains in the background. shout outs to Bruce Straley and Neil, our astounding environment, texturing, lighting, sound, animating, character team, programming and editing teams that worked their ____ off to make this an amazing teaser.

i dont like the way drake looks so gloomy on the cover

thats a bad sign IMO

uncharted 1 and 2 were the shit because they were vibrant and 3 was garbarge because it decided to be emo and edgy, i hope this isnt another gloom fest

graphics look great tho

Classy answer.

I'm going to be so crushed if this is the last Uncharted game they're making.

Oooooo man. I don't even know what kind of game it's going to be but I'm already excited.

I can't wait for this game, the Uncharted games are some of my favorites from last gen. To be honest though, I wish this will be the "final" Uncharted game starring Nathan Drake. I can see them expanding the Uncharted series to other characters and that's fine, but I feel like Nathan has had a good enough run and should retire or pass on the torch to someone else. I really do want to see more adventures of Drake and Sully, but I would rather them leave the party too early instead of staying too late. If it is indeed the end, I hope Naughty Dog puts in all the effort they can to make Nathan's last journey memorable.

Pretty sure with a name like A Thief's End, it's going to be the last Uncharted starring Drake. IMO the series might be too strong for Sony to give up all together, I could just definitely see this as the last for Drake and Naughty Dog.

C'mon man really. The Order, while inferior, was like THE top graphics that people couldn't believe were real until this came out.

I think that's his point. The Order looks stunning, and yet this Uncharted trailer looks leaps and bounds better, hence some people are suspicious.

But fuck that, I have faith and can't wait to play something that looks this good.

I'm not a fan of how this story seems to start. Seems like his motivations is still to get a big payday and find another treasure. To me at this stage battered and bruised the motivation should be something personal and not about another treasure or whatever.

It would be kind of neat if Baker was the antagonist. Similarly to
how North played the role in TLoU
.

I would have said the same thing, but look at Stig's game, Sony gave them notably longer before pulling the plug, and that was completely canned, not given to other staff.

Also, considering that interview, they're talking about designing set pieces that align with the storytelling.

I was imagining the levels, and for the most part, all 'game' related content would remain, and they'd just scrap the writing and replace it. Hennig had often talked about writing a story to link various set pieces and levels together, and I thought those links would get pulled out, and Druckmann would replace them (a huge over simplification, but I imagine you know what I mean). But that doesn't jive at all the with this interview. TLoU's design and storytelling are fundamentally entwined, and to bring that to UC4 means heavily butchering what was already there, if not just writing it off.
I would assume their involvement, largely due to the minimal nature of the announcement of them being involved, is to finish the work as opposed to start all over.

I would put money on the idea that UC4 is going to be a mix between Hennig/Richmond and Druckmann/Straley. To think that it is going to be void of effort from any one team completely is ludicrous.

- Rollercoaster will still remain, but they want it to mirror what's happening with the characters the characters at that point

- They're keeping their same motto from Uncharted 2, which was "keep it core". In other words, keep it on the sticks so that the player is always in control

- They're looking to ways to build more systems and expand Drake's moveset so that the player has more ways to explore, traverse the environments and fight

Certainly interesting to hear since Uncharted 3 did a lot better job of "keeping it on the sticks" than Uncharted 2 did.

Still, pretty optimistic.

This is not a "trailer"..... this is a TEASER, it shows absolutely nothing. We don't even know if the graphics will look like this, even if this is being sold as an in-engine cutscene.

Please, take a Valium. ND have already been quoted as saying Drake will be on a "globetrotting adventure".

this is the furthest thing from the truth.

Posting my story from another thread.

I want to share a story about my encounter with Neil Druckmann at E3(paraphrasing some):

So, I attended the Sony Pre-Press Conference and had the opportunity to talk to Neil. I introduced myself, and although I could tell he was being polite, my name didn't really mean anything.
I then asked him if he ever goes to Neogaf, he laughed and responded with "More than I should."
I asked him if he ever comes across the poster with the "Drake in the desert" picture as his avatar. In less than a second he responds with "You're the guy who disliked my ending." I reassured him that was not the case(directed him to this thread) but then realized he was talking about my earlier criticism when the TLoU was going to end with a BIG cutscene instead
of killing the doctor(s) and carrying Ellie out of the hospital with gameplay.
He told me that when people have great ideas he listens to them, stressing that he doesn't rule with an iron fist and that it's still very much a collaborative effort on everybody's part.

In many ways, some of my biggest fears about Uncahrted 4 were eased. I was honest and told him I wasn't really a fan of Summer because it didn't have any strong standout playable/narrative moments like the other seasons had; or largely that it had too many cutscenes. He stressed that they actively look to strengthen narrative with these playable moments, and when possible they try to always look for ways to make them playable(the ending of TLoU changing from cutscene to gameplay is proof of this.)

To be honest, I'm more excited for Uncharted 4 now than I was post shake up. My fear was a reliance on cut-scenes for a lot of smaller moments but now I get the opposite impression coming out of E3.

Lastly, I told him the giraffe scene was such a powerful moment it impacted me emotionally(largely due to it being a playable moment.) Suffice to say, I think he took it as a compliment. ;)

Can't wait to see more desert/giraffe playable scenes in the future

dude has a very dark mind, very good director, yes, he worked on uncharted 2 but not directing, uncharted is an adventure kinda popcorn blockbuster game, this dude is not the right fit to direct this game, ill bet ya a very important character from the franchise will die, either be sully or elena, i just don't buy this guy at the helm of this franchise

I know this is an old post, but I also think that people would be far more forgiving for a PS5 Nathan Drake revival if they don't spend all of this generation having him as a central character.

Didn't they direct Uncharted 2 already? That's easily the best game in the series.
Also Uncharted could use a little more depth with its story, despite being a somewhat lighthearted adventure.

I don't get where the "dark mind" comment is coming from.
Last of Us was a dark game, of course, but Uncharted 2 wasn't.

Truth be told, UC3 really is the deepest and arguably darkest installment so far. It was complex and had a lot of themes that you really needed to analyze.

I hope UC4 takes an equal approach, because truthfully, although it is a great game, UC2 is a little shallow in comparison to its sequel in terms of meaning and story.

Each Uncharted game has been darker than the last. 3 started on a thematic path of making it clear that Drake goes on adventures for selfish reasons, putting those he cares about in danger along the way. The trailer for 4 merely seemed to continue on that same path.

The reveal trailers for 2 and 3 also seem to convey a darker tone than the games themselves have.

If we just pretend Uncharted 3 never happened and 4 a redo of those exact themes of Drakes selfishness pushing away the people around him only this time they have the balls to commit to a ending that isnt a giant reset button I would probably be ok with it.

I don't know if I would agree with that. Existential worth is pretty heavy.
