Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

Game looks amazing. I'm hoping there are Gold and Silver metallic ink teams to unlock later. It'd be sooooooooo pretty seeing liquid metal effects everywhere.

OH MAN!!!! My Wii U owning brother told me to check this out and I WANT! First The Last of Us' DLC watergun section and now this proves that you can have tense and captivating gameplay or insane and unique fun without the use of real guns and gore in a shooter (I guess PvZ:GW does this well too but that doesn't appeal to me).

I hope this does well and catches on.

This game ended up being the tipping point for me. Wii U acquired!

Kind of fun that between a 2D Mario, a 3D Mario, a remake of my favorite Zelda, Smash, a new Zelda that looks pretty sweet, it's this silly little game about squad squids shooting ink all over the place that convinced me. And i don't even like third person online shooters, yet this seems like a must-have.

Well done Nintendo. Splatoon ended up being at least one system seller.

Look at the boys, they got little flannel little snekers

this game... THIS GAME
Its gonna change everything.

Flannel in your tps, nah this is dangerous shut it down, shut it and sunset overdrive down its too stronk.

Good idea for Nintendo but from what I can tell - the gameplay is having to cover areas instead of targeting people -not that appealing to me personally (raging spamfest for ADHD kids?). I like the artstyle though (and some of the moves look great). I'm glad Nintendo did paintball something even if it's not quite what I hoped (mario paintball).

---edit - seems you can target players too, better than I thought. Might give it a try, liked the sound of mario maker too, especially since it's not just NES ha

So,

If nobody here has thought of this, they should have.

If the developers have not thought of this, they'd better start working on it.

A shotgun style weapon called 'The Splatter Shot'.

That is the great thing about the game it can be played as a shooter for example if you have a clan or a well coordinated team. One person could be an attacker(just getting kills since it makes the enemy respawn and when they die they explode into your ink color covering the floor), one stay at base and cover the floors and two as supporting.

Or one can be an assassin and get behind enemy lines, attacker, and one as an sniper and one supporting.

I was too quick to incorrectly worry Nintendo wouldn't let you take people down. Sounds a lot, lot better now tbh, especially with everything else going for it already. Should be a decent amount of fun.

I worry about the netcode for this game especially with everyone being on wireless. Also, is there anything that stops this game from being fully playable with wiimote + nunchuck? I can't think of anything control wise.

The map on the gamepad seems pretty vital, and it's used to launch to your teammates.

Would anyone to be kind enough to make me a Splatoon avatar? The logo or just one of the squids. I will be eternally grateful.

Made these (one is slightly more cropped than the other), if you like it (look at my avatar to see how it looks) then you can claim it and I'll remove my avatar. But if you don't...I guess I have a new avatar, haha

That was in-game but I think there will be a variety of styles.

Really they just need to edit the child voices out of it, they can keep the Tony Hawk style shouts in it.

I personally want glow in the dark neon ink on a night level.

What if, in this kind of map, you had to use the ink as a light source? Like there'd be a dim default level of illumination, and spreading ink of your color brightens things from your team's perspective, while placing that same area in total darkness for the opposite team. A claustrophobic, corridor like map with limited inkable surface could make this pretty intense, I think.

Time for us to learn nothing new about the game for a few months. It would be nice to see a new map in the August/September ND.

I was thinking earlier that deathmatch could actually be a feasible mode, but with a twist: the level has a more vertical orientation, so you have to essentially jump from wall to wall in a sort of parkour-esque fashion (I really think there's a lot of gameplay potential with squid form traversal) to hit other players. Maybe have the platforms disappear after a while once they are stood on and reappear, forcing players to take to the wall.

I mean, it just sounds like a generic rock track demo feature that would come with Garage Band. Or like, the background music for a coaster in Roller Coaster Tycoon

I mean that's everyone's response to that guitar, but I like the tune of the song. I was actually humming it earlier today. If I take the tune and imagine it with other instruments, I like what I'm imagining. :P

I thought that the music was really fitting. Though it wasn't completely to my taste.

And I like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and skateboarding culture a lot. Oh, and cute or childlike voices in music is also great.

I think something more along the lines of TWEWY's OST might have been a little more fitting; but this will either grow on me or be muted forever.

I think neutral zone "waterfalls/streams" would be an interesting concept. Basically streams of water that either team can jump into and zoom through but can't paint.
This would be cool, as would map-specific traps and shortcuts one could activate and use without scripting.

Pretty sure the devs mentioned they were designing a shotgun-type weapon for CQC uses.

I added a Red Inkling to my avatar and gave her a paint brush.. to make it appear that she drew the X for Xenoblade Chronicles X on my Metal Slug avatar.
^_________^

So hype for this game. O_O
