Mario Maker [Wii U] is real, folks.

The Treehouse demo of this was amazing. One of my most anticipated games now. Why is it 2015 though? Seems like this game could be completed by the end of the year.

Well I'm referring to the 'Kaizo Mario' games, fan made games were assets from classic Mario games were used to make them.
Which requires you to buy a PC (you said you have to buy a Wii U for this so I may as well make the straight comparison) and technically a copy of the original game to make a ROM backup of to edit.

Watching the Treehouse footage now, damn, this really looks brilliant. Like LBP, but actually fun to play.

Hoping for 16 bit artstyle, I was never into NSMB aesthetic and 8 bit is kind of too primitive.

Is it already confirmed we will be able to share, rate, etc, our levels online? That would seem like a given but you never know with Nintendo.

At the very least they should include all enemies and blocks/power ups that were in the original Super Mario Bros.

Lakitu, spinys, beetles, BOWSER (THAT would be cool: multiple Bowsers), water levels, cheep cheeps, etc.

Being able to link pipes to different maps/screens. Beanstalks.

This could go from being a novelty that amuses for an hour to something that could be truly amazing.

Imagine downloading entire new "campaigns" online.

They should take the Mario Paint comparison further and just have multiple rows of "paintbrushes" at the top of the screen.

Treehouse footage has me so hyped for this.

I really hope they flesh this thing out. I want the ability to create ridiculously huge (or small) stages, all the 2D Mario tilesets, the ability to upload and share courses, up voting... how about the ability to create/share a set of 4 stages, like the original SMB? The list goes on and on. That's a $60 game right there.

So much potential here.

there has to be more than what they showed, there were only a few enemies and a handul of tiles and bricks to use. Theres not enough stuff in the E3 build to remake half the levels in SMB1

Yes you can share with Miiverse from what I've seen, and you can give credits to the level creators if you like theirs levels (to buy in-game stuff I think).
I really hope there is some kind of ranking, showing which levels are really good.

There's probably a lot more content than what they showed.

I hope so. I think things like springs bouncing off of springs and piranhas outside of the pipes are what will really make this a special experience. If they did something like a Mario Land 2 overlay, that would be amazing.

Yeah, they should at least have Luigi.

I kind of hope they have all sorts of characters. Maybe they could use this with amiibo.
At least Luigi, Peach & Toad should be available, especially due to the style swapping.

But I too hope for a lot of Mario characters. Playing as an enemy would amazing too. (Goomba Bros!)

Looks good.

Plus I like its focus on wacky levels verse traditional levels. IE having springs on springs on flying plants.

I think this game can coexist with NSMBU sequels.

Hmmm.

I've been playing with Lunar Magic for over a decade now:

And Reuben:

And as such, I'm not really amazed or intrigued about editing SMB levels. It'll be interesting to see what people come up with though.

I hope what people can achieve comes close to what was accomplished with NSMB Wii... Rom Hacks? Not sure what to call those complete remakes of the game but they were awesome. This seems like more of a quick level design tho?

Here is a break down of the info from here http://www.usgamer.net/articles/e3-2...ut-mario-maker
- plans to integrate more enemy and object types
- hopes to include features similar to those of that of Mario Paint
- would like to add a music composition feature
- Tezuku says "sharing with friends is really the whole point of making levels"
- details on sharing have not been made public
He also said plans to integrate more graphical styles perhaps even non Mario ones. So we could see SMB levels with LoZ skins.

My interest in this game depends on how robust the online sharing features are. I wished they would just explain the whole thing so I can know to ignore this game or not.

New hands-on impressions from Nintendo Life:

As proof of Mario Maker’s potential, then, the demo on the show floor worked wonderfully. We had a great time with what sounds like just the tip of the iceberg, and we can’t wait to see what other features and surprises make their way in before the game’s 2015 release. Nintendo’s hit on a brilliant idea here — it’s quirky, creative, and fun — and it's implemented it with a level of polish and charm few other studios can manage. With the right content and sharing features in the full version, Mario Maker could easily become a Wii U winner.

This game is going to live and die by it's online sharing. If it's WiiU friends only, not interested. If they set up something like Little Big Planet, it could be the game of the generation.

How's Warioware's D.I.Y sharing by the way? Maybe that's a window into what Mario Maker holds.

Friends only on both Wii and 3DS, but Nintendo set up a storefront to download weekly games both from Nintendo and celebrity devs. They also held contests where players could submit games under a theme, and then those winning games could be downloaded in-game. That contest process was, frankly, a disaster, as by the end it seemed apparent that Nintendo was picking winners based on whether a game met the bare definition of playable and was submitted by someone who hadn't won before. It got pretty crappy.

that would explain why i wound up ever only winning once

Finally got around to watching the Treehouse demo of the game and I am now sold on the concept. I look forward to seeing what else they bring to the table with this. It seems like they're really commited to making this a solid product, though. I know it'll probably be DD-only, but I imagine it might get a cheap retail release as well, like Wii Sports Club or NES Remix 1+2 (in Japan).

As for level sharing, the sharing in Pushmo World seems solid and is basically the minimum of what I expect in this.

I believe it's already been confirmed as a retail title, unless I'm mistaken [it wouldn't be the first time!].

Well, I have my retail copy pre-ordered, anyway. We'll see, I guess.

This looked neat, but seems like something for casual players.

I want full ability to make and share multi leveled campaigns.

I'm really excited for this game but a couple of things bothered me. These both may well be different in the final version of course but the levels are a set length, very short. Also, there needs to be a 16 bit Mario option. Any word on whether either of these things will be there in the final version?

Different Mario Bros styles, Music composing, more elements and elements from non-Mario games and online (friend) sharing are things that are propably added according to the devs. So we don't know for sure; just that this demo is just a fraction of the final program.

Holy shit. Uhh, maybe I'll re-buy a Wii U next year?

Do you mind me asking why you got rid of it in the first place? Obviously it's up to you and not really any of my business but it seems weird that this would be the thing that would make you want to get one again. Surely if you're into Mario enough to buy a console for this then you would have known Wii U was the console to have before. I'm not a huge Mario fan and still love my Wii U but between NSMBU, 3D World, MK8, Wii back compatibility and the Virtual Console, Wii U is heaven for anyone who likes Mario lol.

Ah okay that sounds great, looking forward to seeing how this turns out
