E3 2014 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 [ it's over :( ]

Watchdogs would also be a good opportunity to show the gameplay use in a Western 3rd Party title during the Treehouse.

In the end, I guess the experiment payed off and they'll try to expand on it next year with 3rd Parties, if there are still any left.

Well, they'll probably still have indies. I'd be curious to hear how Ronimo, Yacht Club, KnapNok and Drinkbox felt about the experience and the feedback they've had since appearing.

Just shorten the directs themselves to showing reels of any new title we didn't know of, then have a treehouse stream up immediately afterwards doing what they did at E3, but with whatever is in playable state shown at that Direct.

Yes, I want this too. I was thinking about it. Make a 20 minutes direct with new announcements and release dates and a 40 minutes Treehouse section every 2 months instead of the current format. They can even make it at a fixed date, like you would know that on the last Wednesday of the month you have that or something.

An idea to improve the Treehouse for next year: highlight some indie and Eshop games. Particularly those exclusive to the platform. Some of the games in the indie reel looked interesting and I'd have loved to see the Treehouse team go in depth with them.
.

yeah i'd like to have seen more of that too

When I answer the questionnaire in Club Nintendo I'm definitely putting the Treehouse as a reason why I bought some games.

Now I have to change to WC hype, it was good while it lsted.

But they did do that. Affordable Space Adventures, Shovel Knight, Swords and Soldiers II come to mind.

Who hosts the sony livestream. Cause I think the this worked well because it wasn't hosted by actors but the tree house.

I was thinking about this yesterday, does SCEA actually have a department analogous to the Treehouse? They have plenty of studios in the US, but they seem to mostly operate independently from SCEA itself. Obviously Sony has an internal localization team but I'm guessing they don't have the kind of access Treehouse does to almost all the software Nintendo publishes.

Nintendo's treehouse was great this year, but my one suggestion would be to have the initial digital event the night before, so more people could watch it live.

Rewatched the Xenoblade Chronicles X, Bayo 2, Fantasy Life and Toad Treasure Trackers replays. I miss those guys already...like I miss just watching and getting unproductive at work due to lack of sleep lol.

It was fantastic, however here's my suggestion to make it even better:

How about some new game announcements, live? You could make the stage bigger and place chairs so people can watch Treehouse guy's play. Then Reggie comes on stage just like he did this year but... he actually announces something instead of just talking about random stuff.

Imagine this... you know that moment he got on stage with two 3DS handhelds and one of them is a Zelda one. Imagine he opened the screen and surprisingly there would be MAJORAS MASK 3D in the title, the people would cheer and he would play the game live. How awesome would that be?! The Treehouse event was nice but it has so much more potential!

They could also announce new characters on the Smash tournament.

LOL. I'm watching the Smash Bros Tournament since I missed the first half of it due to work. So that's the gardevoir people were talking about.

Heh, Korean DJ got robbed. The commentators said Zero Suit Samus had +6, Rosalina had -2, and Fox and Bowser had -3. They thought -3 was higher than -2.

Wouldn't that be like doing a live press conference again which is the exact opposite of what Nintendo is going for?

No because they show everything without one big game on a Digital Event. Treehouse guys do it like before, but suddenly Reggie/Aonuma/whoever comes in and announces it randomly and plays it live.

I'm amazed that Nintendo of all companies would be the first to try something like this (all day, all week streaming of their games from the show floor at E3). God damn did they knock it out of the park, too. This stream was one of the highlights of E3 for me.

I'm also blown away by the Treehouse crew, who are basically locked in the Nintendo dungeon for the majority of the year (with a couple of them poking their heads out to read from the press release during the odd Nintendo Direct) are as well-spoken, charismatic and funny as they were during this stream. They said they've been dying to talk about these games, and I believe it, cause everyone came off extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic on the stream, and there is a fine line between good enthusiastic and "I'm blatantly trying to sell you this game and I'm not going to shut the fuck up" enthusiastic. It rivaled the Giant Bomb E3 streams in entertainment value, which is something I didn't think possible.

All in all, amazing work. I'll be rewatching the stream archives to catch up on everything I've missed, because the stuff I did see was so, so good.

I totally expect Microsoft, Sony and all the other big companies to start doing this kind of thing next year, too.

To me what you are describing moves away from the relaxed, informal approach to the Treehouse live stream which is a part of why it was so successful. I wouldn't want Nintendo to add any pomp or smoke or lights to the format. I think it would be cool for the live stream to have some surprises but adding audience seating and things like that start to get into press conference territory where they are performing for a live audience. Also I don't think Nintendo wants people to crowd their booth just to watch an event instead of getting hands on with the games.

They should.

Sony already has the all week livestream but the content is mostly boring, with small segments, much more PR driven and almost zero interesting gameplay.

The extended gameplay demos from the Treehouse guys and girls made me want games that otherwise I would have ignored

Fantastic work all around.

I will cry if Nintendo locks these guys up until next E3. Bring them out for a Direct or two, please!

Well most of them cycle through Direct appearance already.

But usually just to talk about upcoming games in a calm PR type deal. Though cool settings.

Also probably why not worth following on Twitter since won't get to say much about games

The secret joy of Treehouse Live is that now's a great time to catch up on the stuff you didn't see the first time around. At least, that's what I'm doing. I love it when something makes me excited about games again.

i conker. nintendo should keep these treehouse tings intimate and save big announcements for the next smash bros whatever game invitational. the need for televised gaming competitions is real. that was for me more exciting than the superbowl.

tbh if it wasnt for nin i would be relegated to playing only platinum, treasure and from softwares games as well as choice games from mikami, kojima, inafune, and co. naughty dog too.

So much this.

It's why I think Nintendo was so successful and why other outlets that already have similar formats haven't resonated with people as much as this stream.

The Treehouse were having fun. When they were at ease, it made others feel at ease. You can tell the difference between developers coming there prepared to present something and developers that just wanted to play and talk about the game. Even with some Nintendo developers, things were more formal at times but when they had say the Splatoon devs playing against the Treehouse, everyone is just there to have fun and it was awesome.

Seeing Treehouse members show off games they had been working on was more like a friend showing off their favorite game they had been playing rather than a presentation introducing a game to a new audience or a reviewer playing a game for the first time.

That more casual but informative format is what made it great. Even when Reggie would stop by, it was just to hang out and talk, and while some people seemed to get upset that he wouldn't be there to announce anything, I think people such as myself appreciated that he got to take off his COO hat for a while and just be there as an observer.

This was refreshing because it was so genuine. The more they try to "capitalize" on the positive reaction could take away from that. If Nintendo expands on the idea, I hope they don't forget that people didn't just like it because the platform was new, but because their whole take on interacting with the fans was different. It was uniquely Nintendo in it's approach.

I don't ever want Nintendo to be like everyone else. I want them to be the best Nintendo they can be at all times, because that is what got them this far and that is what has kept me as a fan.
