Abomasnow confirmed to be pokeball pokemon!

This makes me happier than it should, at last one of my top 10 (maybe even top 5) Pokemon is finally given a Pokeball position in a SSB game.

On this note I was reviewing the SSB 3DS segment of the digital event yesterday for details and spied Abomasnow in trophy form during the brief snippet of trophies.
Has anyone compiled any info from this? might be a few bits of information gained from there, I mean General Pepper is in there though I doubt he's secretly an AT as well like Abomasnow's double life as a pokeball pokemon (he wasn't in the Pokemon teaser either was he?)

So if the Gematsu leak is true and the three left on it are all the newcomers left, I gotta say I'm a tad disappointed we're not getting a third DK character. Kinda doesn't seem right that Star Fox has three characters and Fire Emblem gets three blue haired swordsmen but Donkey Kong doesn't get anything new. Hopefully Dixie or somebody will end up being DLC.
This is really the one and only thing that this game is letting me down on. Alongside still having the sucky Final Smash it ain't looking good for Kong Country.
Still waiting on stages and actually getting an AT this time around, unless Chunky Kong AT is indeed a thing which is an odd choice indeed but not one I'd complain about, he's one hell of a guy after all.

That is his voice in the demo. It's his English Star Fox 64 voice. And I actually really love that we finally, after four damn Smash Bros. games, have it.

I support this change, now they need to take it to the next level and get some SF64 soundbites in there, when I launch Fox into a star KO I want to hear his scream from the end of the Andross Brain fight.

That was likely the exact same event. Virgin Megastores on Oxford Street? He signed my A Link to the Past box. Gotta give props to my mother who accompanied me and my friend for the whole duration. But hey, how many people can say even their mother has Miyamoto's signature?

That's the one! It was covered on ign, they took a picture of crowd and you can just about see me in it, heh.

Honestly, I want completely new movement options, ones radically different from Melee's but still movement options

Problem with this would be that people would look too much for old options, things you can do, technology first at first

Wait what? General Pepper? Where did you see that?

Nothing really important was talked about in the stream but here's what was basically said anyway for anyone that wanted to hear his thoughts:

-Nintendo rep contacted Prog around January asking about people to attend the invitational, though they didn't say anything about the invitational at that time.
-He didn't have any final say in who they picked though.
-Apparently Nintendo knows a lot more about the scene than we think they do, multiple people at Nintendo have been researching (via reddit, smashboards, the facebook groups, etc.) not just a single person.
-A lot of Nintendo reps at the treehouse and even Reggie are impressed with the smash scene and what they do.
-They didn't get to speak to Sakurai, they did make eye contact though!
-Nintendo are aware of P:M, for the most part they're intrigued by it, feels like they're just going to let it be. He got a good vibe.
-Smash 4 is different, not Melee, not Brawl but it's still in alpha and they are looking at some of our responses.
-They were sending e-mails to reps there about changes that would be useful.
-He spoke to PeachyHime and apparently her comment was more about who she was playing with than what she was playing, being the only P:M player there with a bunch of melee and brawl players.
-He thinks the game right now screams for dash-dancing.
-He feels like more Nintendo tournaments might be a thing, a lot of people were ecstatic about how it turned out.
-He does think/hope Nintendo will actually listen to their suggestions.
-Possibility that the invitational build was different to the best buy build, so it all can change.
-Smash 4 is on the cusp of being a great competitive title.
-He doubts Nintendo would try and stop any future Melee events.
-A lot of people were making the suggestions, both at the invitational and on the show floor.
-They didn't get to try much of the game.
-Currently a very ground heavy game, reduced landing lag would improve the aerial game which is hit and miss.
-Doesn't think the new game will hurt the competitive scene as much as brawl.
-New ledge mechanic is going to be really interesting.

So who's going to the SmashFest tomorrow? I keep going back and forth on who I'm going to play as first...think I'll gun for Olimar.

If any of you are visiting the one at Whitehall PA. hope we'll run into each other!

Btw, in case anyone missed it, MLG Anaheim groups for the top 12
Group A: M2K, PPMD, Leffen, Soft, Hax, Remen
Group B: Mango, Hungrybox, Armada, Zero, aMSa, Westballz

I called it after SKTAR 3, Group A was indeed 1/4/5/8/9/12 while Group B was 2/3/6/7/10/11

edit: also Armada added P4K lol, copying M2K's sponsors all day

Thanks for the recap.

Here's a problem I have: -He feels like more Nintendo tournaments might be a thing, a lot of people were ecstatic about how it turned out.

With most major corporations, they have an idea of how to run an event that usually differs from the community's view of how to run an event. I think Nintendo should understand that, while the event would've been fairly popular no matter what happened, it reached ~200k despite how it was run, not because of it. I'm glad that Nintendo ran the event which definitely shows they're willing to reach out to the community, but the format that they chose (items sometimes on, FFA with top two advancing) won't cut it in future events. I know this is obvious to us here, but Nintendo will need to get with the times and come up with a format more standardized (or hopefully just take the community standard).

As long as it's NoA running these tournaments and not the Japanese branch, I'm relatively confident that they'll use the community's rules.

I have to imagine that was more due to time constraints and being the first public viewing of live gameplay. They tried to fit everything into a tight timeslot. I mean they didn't even do Best of 3 for the Grand Finals.

Didn't think it would be that helpful, glad to have helped out.

I think the comment about there being multiple demo versions these past couple of days is really telling in terms of what me may or may not see in the full release.

I'm really hopeful that they take on board some of those suggestions.

I think it's just that when people play a game and there are things missing that worked before then they'll suggest adding those back, if it isn't broke, don't fix it mentality.

But it would be great if they added some new options too that have never been there before, I'd love some crazy new stuff like air dashes or giving every character an air grab. It would give the game more of it's own feel.

I think they should reduce the lag of aerials on hit, but not if they whiff or hit a shield instead of globally reducing aerial lag, so you still have that ability for a combo game but there's also more risk of being punished if you whiff.

The comments about PM are really fascinating to me. Makes me wonder if they'll ever do any reaching out or not. Eh, if not, it's whatever.

I imagine it'll be similar to community rules this time around
Not necessarily the exact same, going off of VGC vs Smogon, but similar

Nice write-up. Wish I'd known so I could've pasted it into the twitch chat: people kept coming in after asking what it'd been about and I had to recap about 8 times :3

Just a standard trophy in the hoard/collection during the Digital Events 3DS trailer, I found that he stuck out a bit among the various other trophies which were mostly playable characters or elements we've seen in game like assists and items.

There's a bunch of very good news there. Thanks for the recap!

I love that Nintendo is trying to be more inclusive towards everybody, even though I frankly don't care that much about the competitive scene. Only one I was very good at was Smash 64.

Also is there no competitive smash thread over in the community side where we can talk about smash as well as upcoming events? Or are we supposed to do that in here?

Because it would feel weird to suddenly start talking about say project m ness ATs in here.

Smash is smash lol.

In terms of upcoming events, typically I make a thread for any big tournament that happens during a weekend (only one tournament thread though, don't want to flood the forums!) So, here's this weekend's tournament to watch: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=116438045

I dunno what's going to happen with the MLG Anaheim thread, though, considering it includes multiple games... might have to talk with whoever is going to do it for the FG games (Injustice and Killer Instinct).

Palutena could have a Viridi color option but no way in hell could Viridi be an alternate costume for Palutena, their proportions and heights aren't even remotely comparable.

I made a post a long time ago saying the same thing but I dunno, with team dependant colors seemingly gone in favor of outlines I want to think Sakurai would find a way to make it work somehow. I'd be happy if Medusa was her alt too (better matching figure but otherwise wouldn't make as much sense having Palutena's moveset)

I'm hoping someone catches all the victory themes with direct feed sound.

Likely placeholders, but from what I heard, it sounded like Mario's, Sonic's, and Pokémon were reused from Brawl.

you forgot that MLG Anaheim will also have Starcraft (and CoD, but nobody on GAF gives a shit lol), so you'll have to collaborate with them too probably
