Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

My main gripe at the moment is that the classes just don't feel different enough.

When you're a titan it doesn't feel like you last any longer than a warlock or hunter in both pve and pvp. Maybe this will change with as the gulf between armor becomes larger but as it stands they all feel the same. Maybe there should be unique weapons that each class can only use or make classes proficient in a certain weapon type and less in another. As it stands there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the classes and the titan abilities are no where near as useful as hunter or warlock at the moment. I hope Bungie releases the subclasses before release so we can have a better idea of how they will be different from each other.

Other than that, loving it.

Playing as warlock, I am continually frustrated with the jump. I watch others easily jump to heights I simply can't reach.

Don't use the warlock jump as a normal double jump, for good height sprint and double tap jump quickly.

Here's a screenshot of my character, a level 8 Hunter. I've got uncommon gear in every slot except for my chest and a shotgun. My primary is either a 106 damage Pulse Rifle, 106 damage Auto Rifle, or a 93 damage Scout Rifle. Special weapons include a 106 damage Fusion Rifle, 73 shotgun, and 85 sniper rifle. I also have 2 uncommon LMGs and a rocket launcher. My armor gives me 29 Intelligence, which seems to reduce my super cooldown by 36% (the game says it's 36% effective).

I need to do some research coming from the alpha but if people has answers to these I'd appreciate it.

-so the class gear item. Purely cosmetic?
-any idea the motivation to buy new ships? Just looks or something else
- also you start as the one subclass in the real game and upgrade as you go or is there more to start with

Other random thoughts
- I'm still mixed on the fact the races have no effect to your abilities. No racial stats, abilities, etc
-at some point in the series well get space shooter combat. It's just sitting right there.

-I'd also like speeder bike racing

Y U DOWNLOAD SO SLOW PS4?!

[impatience intensifies]

I didn't even care enough to sign up for the alpha, but now that I've been given a code I can't wait to try this.

Lot of subtle things about the PS4 I'm starting to appreciate. The share menu works so well - especially with this game - and I was able to broadcast my game instantly so my brother could watch online.

played the first quest or so and yes will buy it day 1. love the atmosphere. can't wait to play it with my buddies.

however the gun animations feel stiff, idk they lack smoothness. not a big deal but something that I noticed for whatever reason.

Anyway, it's going to be a long wait until september for me. I'm already hooked on the game but I'm not sure I'm going to delve into the beta much as I don't want to go through the starting part for a third time.

Well, pleasantly surprised this feels good with decent gunplay and equipment, so the Borderlands comparisons are at least not apt to the parts of that series that I didn't think worked at all.

Overall first impression honestly was FPS PSO with more of an MMO loot system. Structure of the game is not really what I expected, but I try to go into most things partially blind to not flavor my impressions too much. Worldbuilding is nice, game looks great, starter difficulty is babbymode which is fine. I'm fond of my robot woman.

Not sure if it's something I'd dedicate much time to, but it's something I'd like to try on the higher difficulty with some friends.

Other than the dungeons, and I think raids, there isn't a difficulty setting.

This is my character. My gear isn't super rare or anything but it's the best I have that I can put on because of the cap. My weapons are an auto rifle with 96 damage, a shotgun with 96 damage, and a rocket launcher that does 67 (fire?) damage

I'm not sure on this again. I mean, it's a small slice but the bullet sponge enemies are just beginning to bore me and I'm sure every dungeon will have one. Hopefully the beta has a better range of missions as I have had some fun with it, but it's going to need a better showing because I could see it getting boring really fast.

Beginning to think I should give up with FPS on consoles to be honest. Maybe I'm just bored of all of them because this keeps happening.

After playing for a good few more hours and getting to level 8,i still stand by my previous thoughts. This game just doesn't do it for me, it feels like a phoned in Borderlands but without the fun of that series. AI is just dull and uninspiring, the mission system is a mess and everything just feels misdirected with it trying to be too many things at once.

I still have no clue why they chose a class system, and then proceeded to make it pointless beyond a defining super and that's it. Sure you've got the talent tree system, but we could have just had one class that splits into different styles. I hate having to come back to it, but Halo beats the crop out of this in terms of interesting story, enemies, settings and mechanics.

Having the grenade on a stupidly long timer is just annoying as well, especially when it's the only way to clear out groups when the weapons feel so dull. Nothing from this has made me want to keep my playstation 4, which I've been debating earlier this month. Destiny was suppose to decide that for me and it has.

In my opinion and from my playthroughs, this game just doesn't have anything interesting for me. They've tried to be too many things, losing what they are in the process because of that design choice. Sometimes it's borderlands, sometimes it's cod with some Halo but for the most part it just feels...meh.

Just finished an awesome mission session with polyhedron and dippzzz. Way more fun with chat mics on, though the chat system is buggy and cuts out sound from time to time.

Also bought a new emblem, hoverbike, and ship. Very addicting.

Ok, I was a major hater of the MP announcer, but...its grown on me. Feels classy like this whole freaking game.

Getting used to Tyrion, as well. Its just a few lines that sound like a 6 year old put together. I really wish they would add an option to use the speaker on the DS4 for the Ghost voice. Immersion would be blowing my mind.

I have not made a female robot yet.

Does it have boobs?

So is there any word yet on beards being in the game? They seem strangely absent in this. If they aren't. I'll just stick with my exo toon.

Finally got to play it. Wow boy the controls are beautiful, the game is beautiful, the character customisation is easy and beautiful my character is beautiful.

Female characters are in awhole nother level. Blue eyes hnngg

It's an Alpha, I'm sure the feedback they receive will lead into making positive changes.

For me the game is excellent, I've enjoyed my time with the Alpha.

Just been running around solo killing everything just need to find a decent hand cannon and a few bits of armour and im set :)

No wonder the Earth is in trouble they stole parts off The Event Horizon

Maybe since it's a race of 'Exos" they are some kind of organic robot hybrid?

The lore is that they're some sort of super advanced androids that were created for who knows what. Nobody really understands their inner workings, supposedly only the Traveler knows.

For some reason, I had very little interest in this game (probably my negative impressions from Planetside souring me to MMOFPS games). To my surprise I had a message on my PS4 today - 'you are invited to the Destiny Alpha' so I installed it. WOW. I just played for 4 hours straight just tooling around and trying missions and exploring - my Warlock is level 6 now. It's amazing how smooth, solid and fun this is already.

So is there a way to chat with people in game? I haven't tried the PvP yet, not too stoked for that game mode, but in the co-op section, is there a way to talk to others in the alpha?

Really loved everything I have experienced so far. My favorite mode would have to be Explore. I just love the randomness of the adventures you take a part in. The various missions you get are also pretty diverse.

The best thing though are the random public events that take place. I have run into 3 different ones so far. 1 was this massive mothership that appears out of nowhere. The sky goes completely dark, kind of twilight. Then you see an atmosphere disturbance and then this massive ship appears.

ibptzw30A4Zb38.jpg

Then the mothership starts sending out multiple other dropships that in turn send down these Excavation machines that are guarded. You have to take down the guards within a set time and then move onto the next one.

The 2nd type I have run into is a soldier is targeted and you have to take out the enemy before they escape. The enemy is constantly trying to get away from you and you have to give chase, slow them down if you can and kill them before they reach the final checkpoint and teleport out. I have yet to beat this one.

The most intense one I ran into is a WarSat machine is trying to upload data to the Tower I believe and you are tasked to defend the machine while the upload is underway. It takes 5 minutes or so for the upload to complete and you are constantly bombarded with increasingly difficult waves of enemies. In Destiny fashion, the enemies come in on dropships that fill the skies. It is a VERY intense fight and just epic feeling.

And man, what a game. By far the best skyboxes of any game I've played yet. The skies are incredible.

I loved this one! I got it today, and for the first half of the time I was by myself and was able to hold them off. I was a Level 8 with pretty good gear so maybe that was why. Then finally a 2nd and then a 3rd enemy joined.

I wish the explore public events were more common -- I tried to start another one for the last few hours with no luck.

The Sahara machine gun hoooooooooly shit. Shreds fucking everything even in Strike.

Also am I the only who bought a new ship? :lol Mine's some awesome red ship whereas everyone I'm playing on Strike with has the default one.

Only just found out you can upgrade your armor and weapons. wat.

So, anyone visited the area beyond the forgotten shore with the lvl ?? fallen yet?

I'm level 8 with an uncommon scout rifle fully upgraded and did 1 point of damage to those bastards.

So I have to say Destiny via remotel play isn't too bad. For the most part it works damn well. I find the sticks on the Vita though do make it harder to aim in the game. They're so loose compared to the DuelShock 4. Still I could see myself easily popping on from work at lunch and playing an hour of the exploration mode via the Vita.
