Point n Click Adventure GAF 2014 No longer in our dreams, memories or just Germany.

The Lost Crown, a game I really enjoyed, is coming to Steam this week per Jonathan Boakes' blog.

A number of fixes/additions have been made, like the ability to skip dialog (in case you click the same question again) or double-click to skip walking animation.

Strongly recommended - that game is oozing with atmosphere. It's rather long and has some cool puzzles to go along with a spooky story.

Very cool

HD REMASTER MOTHERFUCKER

My original post just said "MEGATON MOTHERFUCKER" but then I figured that might be misinterpreted as a sequel and I didn't want to break Point n Click GAF's heart.

I just hope by exclusive they mean "console exclusive".

So excited for the Grim Fandango remaster. I never finished it the original. Will honestly speed up my PS4 purchase for sure.

Only if you want to play as soon as possible. PC ver. is most definitely coming even though it'd be months after the Sony systems.

Ya'all waited 10 years, you can wait another year.

Actually I'm curious...wasn't this game locked in the Disney Vault from the lucasArts acquisition?

The one Lucasarts adventure I'd NEVER played - so excited

Also wondering about this IP in regards to Disney's acquisition of Lucas. Is this a good sign for other games (DOT maybe???)

Hm, I'm in the middle of my playthrough; now I don't know if I should stop and wait for the remastered version. Hm.

Finish the game now, play the remastered edition later. ;)
Keep in mind that the remastered edition won't be out for probably few months (they haven't even showed a single screen, not to mention a trailer/teaser).

Eh, even if they're all out on the same day I'll play it on PS4. It'll look great on the big screen and I only have a crappy laptop.

I bugged out when I heard the Grim Fandango music during the conference. What a pleasant surprise it will be to replay the greatest pnc of all time on a PS4.

Did I miss the Day of the Tentacle announcement? ;)

edit: Actually I need to shut my insolent mouth because I never actually finished Grim Fandango (technical problems and loss of save files got in the way). You can have this one jon bones...

Day of the Tentacle is the greatest 2d pnc
Grim probably the greatest 3d

still own the discs but I'll gladly buy all versions of a Grim Fandango HD remaster. one of my favorite point and click adventures so hopefully there's a collectors edition that I can blow my cash on.

Played The Samaritan Paradox.
It's decent, but not that good.

Some pretty good and hard puzzles, I liked the "story in the story" bits (the best puzzles are on them - loved the
dragon duel
one). Graphically it's ok.
Story-wise, the author tried to stick too many different themes and seems to not have refined the various plots enough: they're lacking depht and feel rushed. Also the characters feel very, very anonymous and lack personality. The game feels... a bit short. Which is weird, thinking that most people found it to be pretty long.
The voiceover is also quite bad.

I think Fate of Atlantis, Monkey Island 2 & Day of the Tentacle are all better the Grim Fandango for sure.

Grim's writing and va is amazing, but the tank controls are annoying and the puzzling is only ok. I've been replaying it recently with the mouse mod, and the real impetus for continuing is the story, never the prospect of the next puzzle.

I broke my hand so I'm playing a few adventure games from a steam collection. Still Life 2 was as buggy as it gets, but still pretty good. I'm mid-way through Scratches and Post Mortem now. I think I've previously played most of the popular games, so I'm down to some average oldies.

Finished Broken Sword 5. Game was a good Indiana Jones adventure until the very very end where it concludes really weakly. Story was not all that satisfying.

But man, the art. The backgrounds were beautiful and the characters looked great. Very nice looking game.

Puzzles ranged from ok to stretching out a single screen area by making some ridiculous puzzle that defies logic.

Was ok. Don't hate it, don't love it. A better ending could've gone a long way towards making it a memorable worthwhile game. But I got the feeling they got to the end and kind of trapped themselves in a corner writing-wise.

The puzzles were fine I thought, but the story gets way too silly toward the end. Felt rushed, after a great start.

All the Tex Murphy games are up on Steam at 50% off.
Are these good? There's a lot of FMV it looks like.

i was pretty disappointed in it... BS1 & 2 will never be touched, it seems.

Yes son. They are amazing. If you are getting into the series i would suggest starting off with the 3rd game Under a Killing Moon because its the one that made Tex really popular in the 90s. The gameplay from Under a Killing Moon onwards is a first person FMV adventure P&C. The reason why they are memorable to me and many others is the humor, the characters and campy nature of the games. Everything you click on Tex has a witty one liner or response.

After a 16 year hiatus of their last game (Tex Murphy Overseer) they came out with a new game called Tesla Effect this year.

I'll get the complete collection while it's on sale and take your advice. Thanks.

Picked up Cognition for cheap at GMG yesterday, and burned through it this weekend, really enjoyed the story. Can anyone recommend any other adventure games that are as good or better?

Particularly in that style?

Otherwise I'd say these are the best:

Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis(Steam)
Monkey Island 2(Steam, turn off voices and use original graphics/interface for first playthrough)
Day of the Tentacle(ebay)
Broken Sword : Shadow of the Templars(GOG)
Ben and Dan Adventures (GOG/Steam)
Blackwell Bundle(GOG/Steam)
Blackwell Epiphany(conclusion to the games in the above bundle) (GOG/Steam)
Primordia (GOG/Steam)
Flight of the Amazon Queen (Free)
Beneath a Steel Sky (Free)
The Last Express (GOG/Steam)

Fyi, Blackwell Bundle & primordia are currently in the rotating flash sales in GOG, so you may be able to get them cheap.

Broken sword is also available on steam, but you only get the director's cut - gog also has the original, which is much better.

I'd recommend Discworld Noir, but I'm not that sure that it'd even play on a modern system. It's not 2d (scumm's out), it's not dos (dosbox's out), so the only way to play may be via a vm. Last time I tried it was XP, where it worked with the occasional crash.

Monkey Island 2(ebay)

Hey, there's still the remastered edition available on Steam. :P

I think I played it on Windows 7 and managed to finish it, but the game crashed once or twice.

So it seems (unsurprisingly) that Memento Mori 2 got like average scores, but I had fun with the first one so I'm thinking of dropping the money on the sequel tonight after work since I've been waiting on the localization for a long while now. Anyone play it yet?

Actually went ahead and bought The Inner World. Have wanted it for a while and it's on sale at the moment. Art looks amazing and I've heard the characters and the story are great.

[edit]

So The Detail got announced today and I have to say I'm pretty excited. Doesn't look like anything /new/ but for a small company gotta say I find the environments pretty. I'm always weak to murder PnC games so that's my bias.

Wow, that's a pretty good bundle. The Journey Down is probably my personal favorite. Hoping for the second chapter soon.

The Tiny Bang Story is also really good if you're into hidden object games.

Trauma is short but good if you're into experimental adventure games.
