If it is considered reckless or careless, I guess I just don't think he was trying to kick the guy, you all do. I just thought that was incidental contact in that case caused by the momentum of the challenge, I'll grant you it does look like his leg flies straight at his head. For the record I think Sulley Muntari should have been sent off for his multiple bad challenges. I don't have a particular agenda.
No one is saying he tried to kick him. It was just a really bad challenge.

how many players does America have on the team that weren't born in America?

John Brooks, Jermaine Jones, Diskerud, Chandler, Fabian Johnson? And they're all german too no? Minus Diskerud.

Well Germany is where the majority of our European bases are. I bet most of the ones you named are military brats.

That sounds correct. There is also Aron Johansson, who was born in the US, but was very much eligible (and played a lot at the youth level) for Iceland.

Of course, there are several players with strong US ties playing for other teams, so it evens out in the long run.

not hating just found it interesting....I mean most of these guys do have a Mother or a Father that are American but pretty much none of those guys lived much of their life if any at all in America.

People gave shit for Diego Costa declaring with Spain instead of Brazil but his only relation to Spain was that's where his career took off but still.

yeah Diego Costa is an interesting case. So is Honduras' Andy Najar. He immigrated (fled - read the story if you have time, it's fascinating) to America with his mother at a very young age, grew up in the DC United system, and chose to play for Honduras in the end over the US. I don't begrudge him his choice, but would have loved to seen him in our colors. I've met him on a number of occasions and he's a really good kid.

I'd say Dempsey had a solid game..... the USA losing Altidore early really changed the game Johansson did nothing when he came on. altidore was winning the ball consistenly with his strength.

I wasn't following this thread, what happened to that pro-Ghana ******* who kept shitting on the US? Hoping for a link to a hilarious meltdown....

Good, fuck FIFA for trying to rob us of 5 seconds.

He was anti-US granted...and bit much much...but this was hardly a convincing victory. US more than rode their luck. Being an England fan I can identify a classic bungle smash and grab when I see one.

Dempsey took his goal very well and it was a nice set piece to win it. But the US has to step it up and play for more than 10 minutes of football.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

That only tells me dangerous play is a foul. Not that any contact to the head intentional or not is a foul.

I do agree that incident in the match today is dangerous play...

You're really arguing if a kick to someone's head is a foul all the time or not. Ok.

While I can't argue that it was a convincing performance, the game was tied for all of about 5 minutes. The US scored in the 1st minute of the game, and then scored only a few minutes after the equalizer. The game may have been more entertaining had the US not scored almost immediately on both occasions, but they made the most of a difficult climate.

How much football have you played or watched? A kick to head is NOT always a foul. If a player stoops down and puts his head where a player is about to kick - that is NOT a foul. That is not to suggest that Dempsey did that, he did not. But to illustrate that not all kicks to the head will result in a foul.

No I'm arguing "contact to the head whether intentional or not" is a foul no matter what. As I said, the one today obviously was, but I have heard a ref defend not giving a freekick where someone took a bit of boot to his head, as he was bringing his own fat head down there... There was contact boot to head too, and it was a goal.

the curse of many great players, having a national team that sucks, CR7, gareth bale, zlatan ibrahimovic
Current Portuguese squad is only a great coach + a great centre forward away from being a title contender. Other NTs aren't all that these days.

Sure, when a player lowers his head, but Dempsey's head wasn't down. He was upright and jumping at the time. His nose was probably 7 feet in the air at the point of contact.

Did you read the rest of my post? Just before what you bolded I said "As I said, the one today obviously was[a foul]", and I stated that in the post just before that too. What I questioned was Cappa's crap about any contact with the head is a foul.

my bad, a misinterpretation on my part.

Hamstring "strain." Return before Portugal is doubtful. Besler is more optimistic.

it's being called a hamstring strain.

Good news is, it's not a tear.

Bad news is, hamstring injuries are nagging injuries and this is something he may just have to play through the rest of the world cup and risks aggravating it.
Fuck. Fuck. And fuck. That being said...

Portugal is hampered as well. We can definitely play better than we did today. I want to see our players healthy. If they're at risk id rather see them just sit. I know our chances of progressing much past the group stage are minimal, but I love our boys and don't want to see their careers fucked because of the WC.

Please tell me a time where a player lowers his head, gets kicked in the head "not a bit of boot" to his head and a foul was not given. Would love to know examples of this.

You are correct lowering the head will not be given dangerous play but if contact is made to the head it's a foul. Those are two completely different scenarios.
