Can anyone give me a run down of playing as a Warlock? I only used Hunter for the Alpha, and want to know if I'm missing anything. thanks
They have faster regen (if I recall from the menu it was their health, and not shield) than the hunter. All three classes have different stat distribution so I'm sure they'll continually get more differentiated as you level past the alpha's level cap of 8.
Unlike the hunter (which was my first class and also the class I spent the most time with after leveling every class to max) the warlock's super move is a ranged AoE (area of effect) attack that is somewhat similar to the titan's super move (which is also AoE). The difference being that the titan's puts you at the center of enemies since most likely you'll be ground pounding into enemies since the AoE emanates from your character. But as mentioned, the warlock's you can aim and shoot into the group. Both are quite nice for their purposes (clearing out a group of enemies both in PvP and PvE). However I still think the hunter's super is very good, and for the way I play, preferred it over others. Of course it's only single target, but is quite useful for targeted damage (be it a boss's weak point, or when enemies aren't all huddled together). Also you can extend the time of the hunter's super by picking up ammo (it was a skill you could unlock). They all have their strengths and weaknesses.
As to the difference in jumps, the hunter has your conventional double jump (later can unlock more control over the additional jumps, as well as get triple jump). Also the mobility is faster in the activation of the jump (start time to finish time). The warlock's lets you hover based on the time you activate the second portion of the jump. You can accelerate higher if you double press immediately, as opposed to waiting for the apex of the initial jump, or can use momentum of the down swing of your initial jump to float downwards. It's relatively nuanced and I find it to be good, albeit leaving you more vulnerable due to the floatiness of the jump/hover. The titan has a middle ground between them when it comes to jumps. Their "lift" doesn't let you hover/glide like the warlock's (if you're too high up and your second portion of the jump runs out, you just free fall to the ground) but is not as slow either. They all have their situational strengths and weaknesses.
The warlock also has a (as mentioned by todd360) force push-esque melee move versus the hunter's knife or titan's electric punch. I think the hunter's knife throw has the most utility between the three, although the titan's no nonsense punch to the face has its own satisfying qualities.
Also the three different classes have their own versions of the grenade as well. The hunter with the grenade that splits into smaller shards seeks out nearby targets (in a small radius) is quite useful for getting rid of the shields of the more powerful enemies. The warlock's has a DoT (damage over time) type grenade where it damages enemies in ticks in the explosion radius. The titan's has a stun effect. Imagine a flashbang. You'll see enemies with their arms up covering their eyes while dazed. You can use this opportunity to do free damage. If it's versus a player, you're whole screen flashes white and you can't see for a bit. As with earlier, they all have their situational strengths and weaknesses.
You can do a glide thingy. It's doesn't get as much height as titan booster pack though. I think it has more height than hunter double jump. Might be wrong. The force push is really cool. Nova bomb makes you feel super powerful. I liked nova bomb better than titan ground pound and hunter golden gun. Titan ground pound seems to be just as good though. Other than having to run up to people instead of just launching a power blast.
From my experience, the heights are the same between the titan/warlock/hunter. The difference is how they work, and most importantly the speed at which you can complete your entire second jump, and how much mobility you have while performing each one.
I believe the glide gets no extra height, or very little, but it does let you travel further. Its sort of like peaches glide in 2D mario. i cant recall but I feel the hunter gets the most height, or at least the fastest height gain. While Titan is somewhere inbetween, or if the same a lot slower.
I liked both the ground pound and bomb. Didnt much care for the Flame pistol, especially as its on a timer and shot limit.
I also like the knive stab and punch more than the warlock force thing. I liked the throwing knife of the hunter most of all the melee supers though. I dont think I played around much with the force melee super too much for the Warlock though
The glide does get extra height. It's dependent on when you activate the second jump. If immediate after the first jump, you'll accelerate higher up. Apex of the initial jump, you'll generally have neutral momentum and maintain similar height and glide down, while if at the tail end of the initial jump you'll have a faster downward momentum. Also you can cancel out of the "float" mode via aiming with your scope (which is quite useful).
