Eh don't be too sure man, they were missing Mandzukic against Brazil and you shouldn't underestimate the counter that Modric could set up.
Also that Brazil opening game was pretty much the most unfair, bullshit match so far this WC? As if they told the ref you need to make sure Brazil win this to calm down the shit going on, on the streets.

So do you guys think Tiki Taka is officially dead? Or the players are just too old and it's still a viable strategy? I think the whole thing really hinged on Xavi+Iniesta playing perfectly, but also Puyol holding the defense together. I mean they won almost every game last WC 1-0, they have never been a scoring juggernaut. Seems like it was a really fine line between being best in the world and getting blown out by their peers.

No. Barcelona kidnap children from all over the world and teach them from a very young age the dark arts of Tiki Taka.

It isn't going anywhere.

They just don't have the players for it right now.

I think it was simply a lack of effort by Spain. They looked lazy.

Look at the number of games those players have played in the past 4 years.

Saying they were lazy is a lazy criticism.

brazil killed croatia.

mexico held their own against brazil.

croatia should be a relatively easy game for the mexicans.

I don't know. Don't forget that Mandzukic was missing and Brazil got that false penalty. That entire game was a lot closer than the score lets on.

All the better. Having two equally-skilled teams score off against each other for the spot in the next round is a lot more interesting.

Brad was terrible in the Ecuador friendly. In the same game which Ryan started and did ok. Langerak was subbed on in that same game, gave away a penalty and got sent off with a karate kick.

That challenge by Langerak was amazing, I burst out laughing when I was watching that live.

Just give it to Oceania (New Zealand). They aren't going to embarrass themselves anymore than a fifth CAF or 4th CONCACAF team would.

What is better for the sport of soccer, having a team like Canada, even if they aren't great, or possibly having New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji etc.

Keep in mind the growth of MLS in Canada as well. I think the OFC should just be rolled into the AFC altogether, especially without Australia there now.

the collapse of Barcelona and Spain (and, in particular, their way of dominating games via monopolizing possession) directly coincided with Xavi's decline. I hate the cunt but there's no denying that he was the key member of this squad. More than anything, this team simply has not been able to keep the ball the way they did in 2010 or even in 2012 (when the cracks were beginning to show) and Xavi's obviously plays a huge role in that.

Xavi deserved the Ballon d'or in 2010. Easy to say that Messi is the best player on the planet, and he probably is, but Xavi was the single most important player in two of the best sides of all time.

Cameroon just imploded. Hopefully there are some major changes behind the scenes. Song should be banned from having anything to do with Cameroon soccer on the national stage again. Such an embarrassment too because the whole world is watching them headbutt each other on television.
