Well, I didn't really think Divinity's combat was similar to Ultima's at all, it really did seem more like a TRPG or Fallout if anything, although the world interaction's SUPPOSED to be like Ultima VII's. Well, it's not some Diablo-style world or something where you seemingly only have one town as a safe hub, so I'll probably be content on that front. The only similarity Ultima shares is that it's... turn-based.
Ultima's main focus is on the puzzle-solving. That part, however, is brilliant. I re-played Ultima 5 and the puzzles are ambitious in scope yet logical without hand-holding. You always know with Baldur's Gate or Dark Souls that all you need is to fight properly and you'll make it to the end.[
I don't think there's a lack of turn-based RPGs, at least not anymore. There's a serious dearth of turn based WRPGs too, it's kind of disappointing some people were let down that Divinity WASN'T action based but that was one of the big reasons it drew my attention at all.
Let me guess... DA:I and PoEI don't think there's a lack of turn-based RPGs, at least not anymore.
There's a lack of RtwP RPGs.

Admittedly a lot's changed very fast, but when this was announced in 2012 the likes of Dragon Age II were still relatively fresh in our minds, where even real time with pause seemed to be under threat from action based systems.I don't think there's a lack of turn-based RPGs, at least not anymore.

that would be very disappointing, witcher devs have made fun of skyrim a few times though, and I think they hate it as much as I do, so at least they will try to make it much better, which would be what they have done before just one a huge scale. I dont have any reason to distrust CPR yet.
about original sin, I played it for an hour yesterday and I am pretty pleased so far. the low budget shows, its a shame they didnt find more backers for this. but the graphics, art design and animations are really nice. still, I dont get big ultima VII vibes from this (its my favourite rpg ever), expecially not with that combat, not that it was bad, its actually surprisingly good. very responsive, smooth and fun, but still with some depth. I think I'll be glad if pillards combat will be as fun as this.
what I love most about original sin, though, is the interaction with the world, moving objects, using fire to destroy gas. etc and of course my favourite RPG detail: you can attack and kill anyone, I will certainly play around with that a lot, and of course thats the one thing that definitely reminds me the most of ultima VII. I dont remember when I was able to do that for the last time, risen maybe? or one of the gothics.
Divinity: Original Sin is 20% off right now.
RTwP can go die in a dark place. It neither has the fast pacing and freedom of action nor the tactical aspect of TB. It's like that weird, unloved bastard child that can do nothing right.
You should play one of the later Final Fantasy games, and review that statement.![]()
I played all of them. That's not real time in my books. Rather Turn Based without Pause (and therefore lack of strategy for the most part).
Which reminds me that Aarklash Legacy is on sale right now.I don't think there's a lack of turn-based RPGs, at least not anymore.

Probably.Worth the dollars on steam sale?
You'll lose your progress, so if you play now may as well just be screwing around.Should I start playing this or just wait for the "release"?
Honestly, at this point if you want to make a full playthrough you should wait, especially since saves aren't going to be compatible.Should I start playing this or just wait for the "release"?
D:OS is a steal at this price. Probably.
Do you people recommend the remainder of the Divinity series too ?

wait till 30th coz save wipeSo when they say "local co op" they actually mean" has lan support" which I find a bit misleading and is one of the reasons I bought it so that sucks and left me a bad impression from the beginning
Then I got into the character setup and fought a couple battles and forgot most of my ire. Super fun game
I haven't actually kept up with this in any way, I almost backed the kickstarter based on the franchise alone, but haven't followed any development or anything
Should I just wait till the 30th to continue or is most of the content implemented now?

People will recommend Divine Divinity, but I'd also recommend Divinity 2 if you're looking for something a bit different. It's a decent action RPG. Not perfect by any means, but I had a lot of fun with it.D:OS is a steal at this price. Probably.

Stat points seem severely limited. I'm not sure how well the system will handle hybrids. Still, it definitely felt useful to have a method of ranged attack, whether it's a bow or some magic. Maybe if you focus just on one element on top of your melee/ranged, it'll work out. We can't really say for sure, of course, because nobody can get to even the mid game.Going to experiment with few classes in the meantime just to get an idea, what are some thoughts about the hybrids, specifically battlemage and shadow blade classes?
I disagree vehemently.RTwP can go die in a dark place. It neither has the fast pacing and freedom of action nor the tactical aspect of TB. It's like that weird, unloved bastard child that can do nothing right.
If you have an itch for a RPG before the 30th, you could try Divine Divinity (which is an amazing game)Grabbed the whole series in the sale. Will start Original Sin when it releases, and if I like it (I expect to like it), I will try the others out
Subbed!
I disagree vehemently.
Well-implemented RTwP has all the strategic depth of turn-based systems (if not more, due to the additional situational complexity afforded by concurrent actions), while eliminating the tedium of turn-based systems, especially in games with a large party.
Does anyone expect this to be less than the current steam sale price before the 30th?

Are we counting Transistor as RTwP? If so I think it shows how robust the system can be if designed from the ground up to compliment the skills and strategies.

Steal, find, or buy skill/spell books from vendors. How do you learn new spells?
