Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

It's so obviously obvious that he was going to say that they are somehow tied to the...

Not sure if you guys are joking about this but when he says 'its like they are tied in to...' the alarm sounds. He was going to say alarm but the fact it triggered made it kind of pointless.

I'm pretty positive one of the other class trainers (or at least an NPC in that area) is Gina Torres as well.

Yep, she's the warlock trainer.

Canceled my Destiny preorder today

On Amazon since I'm going digital for this. I want to be able to jump in and out of the game at will.

I did the same too. I know I am going to love it after playing the Alpha and just want it to be there all the time.

Does anyone know what the sizing is like on the Bungie Store apparel? They're sold out of large for the Alpha t-shirts, so I was looking at a medium, but I can only fit some mediums - most are too short for me.

Also, I noticed that Guardian Crest pretty clearly has room for four different classes... I wonder if we'll ever see that fourth spot filled in.

Samuel L. Jackson would be good too.

"That's it! I've had it with these motherfuckin' wizards on this motherfuckin' moon!"
Seconded. The problem with Morgan Freeman is that he has a voice like silk, and it'd make me want to shut my eyes and drift off to sleep. We would need the brutality of Samual L. Jackson to be able to play the game :D

Buy XL. Their shirts tended to be on the small side before, but they just went through a major revision, so who knows.

Valentinus and I thought that in the OT. If we put 4 links in the first post, people can click on it and it will send the to the thread that was made for that specific platform.

The OT will be in the Gaming Section and the other 4 threads will be in the Gaming Community Section of NeoGAF

I agreed on this that it would be much more specific and clean. I did say however, this is subject to Dax's opinions and mod's approval.

Whoa there. Slow down. Unless I'm missing something and you're talking about a Beta OT for Gaming Community, you're already stepping on some toes. I'm making the Beta OT.

I told you about this. lol

Of course. That's what we agreed on. With the approval of the mods. And Dax.

And hey about that list of Admins I promised you. I'm at work right now. When I get home I will send them to you. Sorry for the delay.

Yeap, I'm all for the clean and simple specified threads for you. But, it depends on those two key people, I'll follow their decisions. Let's pressure Bungie into having sub forums quicker! That's the thing we can actually change ourselves.

Oh, there is a GAFfer who is planning to make the OT. I forget who it is, but Dax mentioned him in a post when talking about banners for the OT.

And this talk of Captains and Commanders sounds serious. I just wanna play Destiny with other GAFfers, not compete in pro leagues or whatever.

There's not going to be any Captains & Commanders, there's only going to be Admins and assistant Admins for when the main Admins are away and such.

I want my ghost to be voiced by Danny Pudi. I think having Abed Nadir talking to me about moon wizards and such would be cool. I would also say Brent Spiner would be cool but that would probably be too contrived.

The Ghost should have been Morgan Freeman.

Samuel L. Jackson would be good too.

"That's it! I've had it with these motherfuckin' wizards on this motherfuckin' moon!"

Hahaha that would be hilarious.

I think I would like to hear Gilbert Gottfried as the ghost.

Sorry Dinklage, I demand a Christopher Walken voice pack at release!

I'd throw a few bucks out for a Bobcat Goldthwait ghost voice pack.

This looks like an MMO. Is it an MMO?

That is the tower, which acts like a social hub - it is the most "MMO" part of the game. Randoms are in the tower, but there is no combat - just mission pickups, turn-ins and vendors.

However Bugnie does not call this an MMO. It certainly takes inspiration from and takes the best aspects of an MMO and incorporates it into the game. However you never will see people in a story mission - that is instanced off from the rest of the world. You may encounter some other people in the patrol/explore mode but that is generally because a public event is coming and those guardians can not hurt you. Strikes (which are like 3 man instances group/co-op content) are matchmade as well as the PVP which is all matchmade.

Plus there is no subscription fee. So like i said - takes the best parts of an MMO :P

It has some MMO features. The pictured is The Tower, where players go to get new gear/weapons etc. b/f heading back out on missions. You can only emote with other players and also invite them to join your fire-team. But, it's not like a traditional MMO where people can type and hold conversations, or sit and shout to everyone and generally be annoying lol. The actual missions you go on, you can be in a team of up to 3 people or 6 for the Raid content.

It's advertised as a shared world shooter and a max. of 16 people can be in your world at a time during exploration/story/strikes. Hope that explains it for you.

This is very interesting. So it sounds like an FPS version of Guild Wars.

Sounding off. I've been putting together the Destiny OT for over a year now. Dax is making the Beta OT. It's coming along nicely. I will definitely include a section regarding "DestinyGAF". I've been following this thread relating to separate console threads, no need really. Keeping everything under one banner seems to be the best call, despite how large Destiny is going to be.

Thanks for putting a lil bit stuff on the "DestinyGAF". We are all proud to represent. Whatever it is, the decision is yours to make. I have no argument over this.

I swear I'm having such a hard time playing other games. I went back and beat Watch Dogs which was somewhat of a disappointment honestly. I just NEED this game right now.

It's a hub like many MMO's have, but it isn't an MMO. The first 'M' in MMO is Massive. There's nothing massive about the hub in Destiny or in the worlds you're dropped into. Unless you're grouped up, you're placed in a Tower with a few random players. There are no servers to join as most every MMO has, which mean you won't know exactly which players you will always potentially run into. It's similar to PSO, but again without servers, without trading, without communication other than 4 types of emotes and without jobs/professions. It's a shooter that focuses heavily on cooperative play.

For the people that were playing this, what would you say is the most rewarding thing about it? Is it adventuring out into and experiencing the world? Do you feel like it's big enough and there's real things of worth to find out there, and does the combat and the various bits of customization that are possible feel like they would continue to be fun and rewarding for much longer stretches? Last but not least, I know this isn't a singleplayer title, but did you feel like you were getting a satisfying narrative or feel for the world and its various mysteries through whatever storytelling tools bungie used? The story aspect is the biggest fear I have about the game. I like games where I feel like I'm being told a story. It doesn't even need to be a very serious story, but just something that makes me feel like each time I experience and learn something new it was somehow worth it, and it compels me to keep pushing forward, even I don't necessarily feel like doing so right that very instant.

Essentially the games that you can go away from for long periods of time, but still constantly agonize about the fact that you didn't go as far as you wanted to, and so you return to it later to complete it. Do you guys feel like Destiny will have that effect?

I'm still really undecided and not fully sold on this game just yet, so any help in deciding would be much appreciated.

for me the most rewarding thing would be playing with a friend. Doesn't matter if it is strike or crucible or just roaming. having a buddy, or two is the best feeling about playing Destiny so far.

Let me describe to you my first time traveling through free roam mode.

I landed in an open field in the afternoon and decided to head off to the destroyed structure to my right. As I walked through the building I found traces of the world left behind. Skeletons, signs, furniture, as well as enemies waiting for someone to pass through.

When I came out on the other side I was near another clearing, this one filled with enemies. It took me a long time to fight through all of them. The sun set and night fell. I explored around the ruins of a creepy old research station and, just as the sun began to rise, a portal opened up in the sky and a giant alien ship appeared and dropped a tank. Several other guardians came to my aid as we fought it. It escaped but after it disappeared the sky lit back up.

The world feels very alive. Well thought out and expansive. Even when wandering around in free roam, my mind is constantly narrating a story of what's happening to my guardian out on patrol. The game empowers you to really feel like an important part of it.

There also is a full campaign story.
