Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Well, Mercury wasn't on the map in the E3 video, nor was there an outline for it on the map in the Alpha. Cut content? DLC? Unlocked later on?

What if the map scrolls down in the full game and that is just the top half?

Nice. I like the popcorn effect. Will be nice to get something out of chests other than glimmer.
I most definitely got loot out of chests in the alpha (I raided every cave I came across, every time) but it was white gear more often than not, and I never got the visual effect for it. All I got was the chest opening, the glimmer shining and disappearing and then the glimmer and the weapon showing up on the right-hand side of my screen.

What is the Vanguard? First I've heard of it.

Hope we see Europa. Maybe it and Mercury are pushed to the Expansion next year. Any word if we going to Saturn's moons like Titan or Enceladus?

Vanguard is the label for PvE stuff on the vendors. Vanguard vendors give out PvE related gear and Vanguard bounties are aimed at PvE challenges. What that particular selection on that map leads to is unknown though since each planet has Explore, and Strike locations on their maps that you can choose.

I'd like to hear more about how many areas there are on each planet.

Looking at the Wikia, it gives me hope that these planets will have tons of areas to explore around just like we did in Old Russia during Alpha.

Old Chicago
The Wall
Black Garden
Mumbai Plush
Tower
Old Russia

So I wonder how many of those areas are exploreable like Old Russia was, with the myriad of sections to explore within the map itself.

Do we know if the alpha in explore mode was all of Old Russia, or is there more?

Think it was all, but there were some areas you couldn't really reach due to high end enemies. And also, there is the Kings Run or whatever that section north-east or devils lair that I never got to. But all the other regions I hit at some point.

That area was entirely blocked, as was a complex that you could reach through Skywatch (Lunar?). Seemed to be a hive zone.

It wasn't all of it. King's Watch was completely blocked off from what I recall.

There were more missions and stuff grayed out along with King's Watch being blocked off.
Yeah, I don't remember making it to Skywatch either unless I remember wrong. The bunker in the Forgotten Shore hints to another area as well.

Yet we have footage of Mercury, and that's not in the map....

Europa could be in a future game/expansion, but we'll see.

I'm guessing/hoping it is there but just isn't shown yet, maybe it's unlocked later in the story or the map screen scrolls more than we saw in the alpha. I feel they've talked about the outer planets (or rather the moons of them) enough that I'd be surprised if it's all cut or DLC.

As always, posting in this thread on my iPad reminds me how odd it is that iOS autocorrects alpha to aloha.

Yeah and if the icons are any indication then Old Russion alone has 3 storyline missions, a strike mission, a raid mission ( im guessing that is what the icon in Skywatch is ) and then the Explore option.

I do remember Skywatch, as that is where you had to go to reach Forgotten Shore.

I did find this pic of mine

Which shows me in that The Blast region that is in between Devils Lair and Kings Watch. Which looking again could of been the start of the Strike mission.

Ooooh the Skywatch. I remember it! It is behind the moon wizard. You don't need to go through it for the Forgotten Shore, but it is through the story mission area.
Man, how could I forget it even though I got a whole video of it up? lol....

It is where I also found the Anointed Ogre underneath the helicopters:

Destiny MP footage

This games MP is what Halo 4's MP should have been.

The game is a good mixture of CoD + Halo. It's a faster paced game than Halo, which takes some getting used to.

I hope there is a good variety of map sizes + vehicles, just like there is in Halo, though. I wasn't a huge fan of the boxy ruins map that resembled something like CoD. Just didn't have good flow to it.

I really hope there's an epic valhalla like map with vehicles multiple people can get into as well as be hijacked, which wasn't in the beta, and may not be in the game at all.

The moon map felt like the right amount of Halo. Big vehicles in a big open map. I just think Bungie nailed adding new features that are the norm now to Halo gameplay without diluting it or making it worse. Using Ammo for map control is a stroke of genius. Halo 4 seemed like it spent more time trying to bolt mechanics onto Halo instead of integrating them in a thoughtful way.

agreed. would love to see a big map like that with huge iconic towers that give the map a nice distinctive flair. that was my biggest issue with the ruins -- just nothing looked distinctive about it...it was too much CoD, imo.

the moon map was great though, reminded me of something like snowbound in H3

Annnd bought... well played Bungie

Here's what Bungie says on that page:

"Putting alpha code out in the wild is always a risk; that build is ancient by our standards, riddled with content and bugs we’d never allow through to ship."

#Mindblown. It was the smoothest and most fun Alpha or Beta I've ever played.

Really curious to see how much the beta improves the graphics if the alpha is ancient

Haha, yea. The moon map seemed just like that map to me too. Vehicles make the game so much more awesome and varied. I liked the ruins map, and it may have a place in the full range of maps in the actual game, but I don't want anymore maps to be like that. The corridoorness of it would be really stupid if all the maps are like that. The gameplay between the moon map and the ruins map is so different.

On another note, I also really wanna see how much painting armor affects the look of your guardian. I just can't wait to be able to do more stuff with more content, and I pray that Europa will be in.
