Ronaldo putting the national squad on fucking BLAST

Damn son... All true but damn

He should be, he literally saved their butts all on his own. None of them could have made the cross he did, if he had come out or hadn't been able to play then Portugal would have been eliminated.

Who plays a more possession-centric game, Belgium or Algeria? That's the US' weakness I think. I mean, they beat Ghana, but I think they were lucky to do so.

Belgium. Algeria likes to run.

What could screw my Bracket:

Untitled_zpsb0a784b9.png

URU beats ITA and goes on to face COL. (very possible)
CHI beats HOL and gets away from BRA. (I have no idea whats gonna happen in CHIxHOL, could go either way)
NIG ties with ARG and eliminates IRA. (If NIG decides to attack, they will loose)
MEX wins or ties with CRO, eliminating Modric's crew. (could go either way)

The rest of my bets I think are safe.

what did he say?

I mean I can guess

but still

"I never thought we could win the cup"
"Our squad is average at best"
"There are much better squads"
"You saw our qualifying run, there's no miracles"

Basically saying that most players are shit and he could never win a major title for his country like he does for clubs

I think if this WC has taught me anything, it's fuck your rankings. Fuck your judgement. Fuck your expectations.

But they havn't been able to gel yet.

I think France will be in the Final.

They haven't clicked yet at all, and despite that they've guaranteed qualification and have 6 points out of 6. They've played poorly and gotten results anyways—who knows what'll happen if they start actually playing to their potential. Way too early to start panicking yet.

LOL poor guy.

I wonder how him saying this stuff will affect the other players. Will they try harder, or just give up?

They've been dealing with the same routine for years. They're shit, they'll stay shit, they'll die shit. And Ronaldo will never have the Cup.

I wouldn't be shocked if they threw the Ghana game in an attempt to fuck with the US.

Why would they do that? They don't give a fuck about the US.

Actually, looking at the show Algeria put today, it gives more merit to the Belgian comeback.

They've done good actually winning. Can't fault them for today either. Fuck Capello teams.

We pretty much just eliminated them with this result, them going for revenge wouldn't shock me at all.

Well, it should. "Revenge" isn't a thing in the World Cup. When the match is done, it's done. They gotta do their part and hope for the best, not worry about some side that's not gonna get far anyway.

Also, just realized that Group B playing before Group A is not the only inversion we will see next round.

D plays before C; and F plays before E;

The traditional order will happen only in G and H. G plays before H.

Ronaldo had his chances to win something at Euros 2004, 2006 & WC 2006 when Portugal had a much stronger squad & bench.

Hail to the KING baby
I would be so much harsher on Cameron if the US had anyone whatsoever to replace him. Unfortunately our terribly shaky backline is what it is -- it's almost a tradition at this point except at least so far this Cup it's not giving us losses outright. If you had said U.S. would have four points after two games all but the most delusional U.S. fan would have been ecstatic. Four points with Jozy injured & Bradley playing mostly terribly? I guess you can't help but feel good about those results if not the prospects going forward as much.

I don't know if Bradley's injured or what. At least he played well for stretches this match unlike the last where he played terrible start to finish. Hopefully just easing in and will be at >80% skill next match because right now I'd say he's hovering around 50%. He sees the ball a lot but nevertheless he's made more dumb mistakes then everyone else combined, and unlike Cameron it's not like there aren't others there who can't step up and do better than him.

Honestly if it wasn't for Jones I think we'd be sitting on 1 point at most right now.

Portugal doesn't give a fuck about the US. they haven't even been mathematically eliminated; why on earth would they just throw their chance, even a really slim one, at qualification (WCs only roll around once every four years....) out of spite? especially for a country that would never register as a rival?

Portugal could beat Ghana, Germany could put 4 past USA and suddenly Portugal's got a shot at going through.

and even if they had been eliminated—they've still got pride to play for. Ronaldo's a ridiculously competitive player, probably to his own detriment. you think he likes the idea of finishing dead last in their group? come on.

What revenge? The mentality everyone has right now isn't "Those US cunts fucked us" it's more like "We are shit, we brought this on ourselves, we should have been better".

On paper Croatia is a much better squad than Mexico.

But Mexico only needs a draw and Croatia has to win.

So toss up really.

They're very even imo. It will be an amazing game hopefully.

I wouldn't make a bet on this game. People acting like one or the other are huge favorites are lame.

Ela Hadrun

Probably plays more games than you
If Portugal decides to go for it, they will be trying to score like 6 goals in the game. They will overcommit and fail hard. If they come in defeated, Ghana could get some decent GD going. Who knows.

But I'm getting hyped for more OCHOAAAAAAAA

A) portugal doesn't give a fuck about the US. When this is over players will scatter back to their millions in their clubs and not give 2 fucks.

B) The US will go back to ignoring "soccer" for 4 more years

C) Portugal will never win a title, they had their chance at home in 04 and lost to Greece of all teams (no offense to Greece)

D) this is the worst Portugal squad i remember, and it will only get worse as Ronaldo is getting up there and we have no new players. Our national teams have like 80% foreign players in their squads, we have almost no formation

E) if Portugal don't go through, I hope the US does, they have been a nice surprise

Can someone explain why head to head isn't the first tie breaker? Is this a #BecauseFootball thing, or is there an actual and good reason?

Agree with everything except I wish B wasn't true. USA picked up a lot of new fans and probably inspired a lot of kids to play the game after their last 2 games, and hopefully they do good against GER (doubt it though). I think Euro will also be a lot more popular here this time than before cause this WC has delivered so much already like no other sporting event imo

US vs Germany is a classic case of the prisoner's dilemma. Collectively, they would be better off with inaction in that both move on. However, the intangible feeling of pride and momentum would cause both teams to compete against each other. If one team competes and the other doesn't, the team that does gets the extra benefits of pride and momentum while the other team is basically fucked (since Portugal is coming up the rear). However, if both teams compete, then on the meta scale both are negatively affected because until that last second there's the chance that they could be sent home (basically the superposition of soccer)

A case could be made for either one. Good thing about goal difference:

1. It encourages you to score.
2. You can have a shit day against a specific team.
3. It forces you to stand out among a group of teams rather than just one team.

I think I could live with either one, but I would prefer it to be consistent...

Don't be dense, Portugal was kicked out of the 2 last big competitions by its winner, one with an offside goal and another one in the penalty shoot-out. So it was a clear candidate to win either one. If anything, these players are now past their prime. Fresh blood is sorely needed.
