GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

Xbox one: exclusives and multiplayer due to friends.
Ps4: exclusives
Wii u: ninty 1st party
Pc: multiplats, indies and obviously pc exclusives.

Gaffers are probably playing with their own friends. If you want to dabble with the plebs, sure, PS4 has the numbers there.

The plebs? With the PS4 outselling the XB1 every month, and it seemingly becoming the multiplayer platform of this generation, wouldn't you expect a majority of your friends to be on PS4 if they were to jump into current-gen?

I think the universal friendslists between 360/XB1 are a huge stimulus in this regard. Xbox 360 held the MP community last generation and it's not difficult to see why people upgrade to the XB1, the console that keeps them in touch with the friendslist they built up over the last generation. It's a valuable asset.

PS4 - exclusives only
Xbone - exclusives only
Wii U - exclusives only
PC - EVERYTHING ELSE

This, almost.

I'll add though some games like Destiny complicate things. Being a multiplayer game I'll end up where most of my friends are, which looks like it might be Xbone.

A few smaller indie titles I also like to buy on PS4/Vita too. I enjoy playing games on my Vita so cross-buy is a big selling point for me.

PS4 - Exclusives and Multi-plats

XBO - Exclusives and possibly some shooters.

My mates who have XBO's are pretty much shooterbro's so I may buy the new COD if they get it but otherwise I'll get all the stuff I want for the PS4. Of the 9 games I have on pre-order only 2 are on the XBO (SO & H:MCC).

I buy the best version of the game - that will almost always be the PS4. Xbox is left for it's exclusives. It's a shame and the exact opposite of last gen.

I do something similar.

My friends are pretty much split between the Xbox One and PS4 (of those that have upgraded and none have both). So I tend to go to sites like Digital Foundry or follow game news to see which version is slightly better than the other and then I go for that one.

At the moment most of my multiplatform games are on the PS4 and the Xbox One is for exclusives (last generation it was the 360 that was used for multiplatform titles and the PS3 for exclusives).

I think the only multiplatform games I have on the Xbox One are FIFA 14 (it came with my console) and Strider (it was on sale and Digital Foundry said both versions pretty much the same but the Xbox One may have had a very minor advantage due to some bug on the PS4 or something).

Default to Xbox One unless there are PS4 exclusives I want to play.

Using the DS4 is almost impossible for me for twitch games and so I side with what I consider to be the better controller.

Xbox One - Exclusives.

Playstation 4 - Exclusives.

But I will say, I kind of split the multi-platforms between the two consoles depending on which looks the best on what console.

Again, I ask, WHY does everybody's friends here have Xbox Ones!?

For starters, most of my friends are from 2old4forza. We are Forza fans. My local friends are similarly heavily into Forza. If I had bought only one console, I would have picked up an Xbox One because for me Forza was an essential purchase.

Why is it so hard to understand that for some people, the Xbox exclusives mean more than the extra oomph of the PS4? I'm fortunate, I was able to buy both and so tend to pick up most multiformat titles on PS4 - but I can see me picking up certain multiplayer games on XB1 in the future.

Recently added the xbox one to my collection, only got it because i already have Halo: MCC and sunset overdrive pre ordered otherwise a majority of my time is spent making a gaming PC and playing on my PS4 which has most of my time

TL;DR Multiplats and Sonys 1st party studios for the PS4

exclusives on XB1

A cursory question: Does ecosystem/friendslist mean that you will stay with whatever platform holder as a preference pretty much forever, regardless of performance and available games catalogue?

PS4 for Multiplats and exclusives as its generally always the best version at the moment.
Wii U for nintendo first party goodness.
Xbox one for exclusives only atm.

I have only bought one retail game on xbox one and that is Forza 5, I borrowed Ryse off my friend and ill probably get dead rising when it hits the bargain bin. Didnt think much of the demo.

Titanfall came free with the console but i haven't touched that in weeks now. Think im at level 48 or something.

Very much enjoyed Max and super time force though.

Nothing on my Xbox list until sunset overdrive and then master chief collection as i never did start halo 4 properly.

X1 for exclusives.

PS4 for everything else.

Which is weirdly the exact opposite of last gen.

Exactly the same situation here.

Got also a Wii U for exclusives but i will get rid of it soon because it's simply an overkill for me to own 3 consoles. I can't find the time to fully use them all.

How do you decide which console to buy games on? I feel bad if I leave one console sitting there without touching it for months on end...

Default PS4. Usually the games have higher fidelity. My friends list is almost exclusivly PSN and I've been a PlayStation fan since I started gaming in the late 90ies, so there is a certain affinity.

Bought Xbox One for exclusives.

If I don't get a game on Day One, and there is a digital foundry comparison, I'll check though which version is better. (So yeah, usually it's always PS4 for multiplats)

I don't see the needed to buy a XB1 yet but if I have both I will buy exclusives on XB1 and everything else on PS4.

BTW I will get a Wii U before a XB1 but again only for exclusives.

PS4 multiplats/exclusives
X1 - exclusives
WiiU - Exclusives
PC - online shooters , strategy , PC only genres and Football Manager

Xbox one, 360 still play most of my games

ps3,4 exclusives and to replay the same game [as the Xbox]

yes I have no trouble playing the same game on both systems

and I like achievements so obviously the Xbox first

when fallout 4 comes out and if iy is for both current and last gen
I would buy it for all 4 systems yep!

Again, I ask, WHY does everybody's friends here have Xbox Ones!?

Yeah, that can't be very good friends; I made sure that my friends knew PS4 was more powerful and less expensive well in advance. I would have felt bad not advising them against buying the weaker and more expensive system, and I also told them about Microsoft's unsuccessful attempt to take away game ownership from us. Not a single one bought an Xbone.

I buy exclusives on PS4 and everything else on Xbox One (Multiplats/Exclusives). I prefer Xbl to Psn and the XB1 os to the ps4 os so those are my deciding factors. I might grab Destiny on ps4 though since it seems like none of my Xbox friends are interested in it.

Friends/ecosystem.

So, XBO for multiplats.

Gasp!

What is better about the ' ecosystem ' ?

Same, I'm activly advising my friends who mostly play multiplat games to only buy a PS4.

I can't imagine any kind of good friend recommending purchasing either of these systems at launch (I own both.) Note: I don't make my purchasing decisions based on "Microsoft's unsuccessful attempt to take away game ownership from us"

Did he say at launch though? I recommended all my friends that if and when they buy a next gen system, they should buy a PS4 if mostly they are going to play CoD, Fifa and other multiplats.

Seems like a rhetorical question.

Exclusives = both
PS4 for third party single player
For multiplayer games, pick whichever you have a subscription to and/or have more friends playing on.

PS4 - Exclusive games and multiplatform games
Xbox One - Exclusive games and sports games
Wii U - Exclusive games
Vita - Exclusive games (counting the PS3/Vita only games as exclusives, like Sly 4)
3DS - Exclusive games

When PS3 and 360 were my main it was opposite with 360 getting all the multiplats.

Well...
If a game is multi-platform and on PC then PC.
If a game is multi-platform but NOT on PC then PS4.
Xbox One just get exclusives to Xbox One.

Wait what? The quality of your friendship is determined based on the console they purchase?

Exclusives on both, Multiplats shared depending on the type of game. However with that, I still feel like I lean more heavily with the PS4 for those. I guess if it's a single player game that doesn't need that much online attention, I'll play it on the Xbox just to have something to play on it.

No but letting uninformed friends buy the more expensive, weaker console is not cool.

What!? You strong arming your friends to buy the console you love is uninformed. Being a true informed friend would suggest to buy BOTH consoles because they both have strengths and weaknesses.

Hm.. Not really. If friends only buy a next gen console to play multiplats why would I tell them to get an underperforming and underpowered console that is also more expensive? That actually makes zero sense.

There are hardly any ' strengths' in the Xbone in The Netherlands. Actually the console isn't even out yet. And I haven't forgotten MS DRM bullshit they tried to pull on us. They don't deserve the sales imo.

Although maybe I'll pick up a used Xbone further down the road, to play some of those awesome exclusives.

God forbid people have a preference outside of graphical power right? I should have told my friends they were stupid for preferring the Xbox controller and exclusives.

True. In the USA, ps4 is selling the largest number of (everything) multiplayer games and is sporting the largest online communities for (everything) said games. I have yet to purchase an xbone and will do so once the price reaches $299 or lower as the console's power does not warrant $399 IMO. Will use exclusively for exclusives, should anything good show up. Right now pie in the sky CGI trailers aren't doing it for me.
To be fair as this thread progressed the number of people primarily buying PS4 versions of multi plats in this thread took a lead over XBONE. It was just that first page that initially struck me as odd given the sales disparity in the US and especially the world. It definitely does show however that a good number of XBONE sales have and will come from brand/platform loyalty/familiarity which I'm guessing has to make MS happy.

Edit obviously those type of sales will happen with any system I should say. Just with the shift this gen they become noticeable on one platform just like they were noticeable early last gen with that shift as well.

Actually my friends don't have those preferences outside of controller preference and the fact they are 'used ' to Xbox 360.

My friends know what they're getting into. Calling people uninformed because they buy the Xbox One is nothing less than dumb and short-sighted.

If there isn't a huge performance difference then I'll go for what I consider the superior controller (XBO)

If there is significant performance issues (I'm talking Skyrim PS3 style unplayability, not 180p worth of resolution) then I'll go with PS4

Also depends on where my friends are for games like FIFA and Destiny (in both cases PS4)
