GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

As usual, when it comes to consoles, I go with the better version. If both console versions are of poor quality, as we saw at the tail end of last gen, I go PC instead. I prefer buying games on consoles, however, as I prefer owning discs but only up to a point (ie - if the console ports are simply of too little quality).

Nice try, Phil.

Whether I'm chilling with my buds watching enhanced live tv on my Xbox One, munching on some Doritos and playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox Live, or using Bing to find concert tickets for the next Maroon 5 show, Xbox One is my one-stop entertainment destination. Game on!

How do you decide which console to buy games on? I feel bad if I leave one console sitting there without touching it for months on end...

I go for the best version, if they're identical I go for the cheapest. If they cost the same I go PS4 for multiplayer games or XBone whenever I can since I like the controller better.
Usually it's Xbone for indies/arcade games and PS4 for everything else...

...unfortunately all of that is purely a theory since there's no games on both

Depends. I'm buying most multiplats on PS4 but if the X1 supports impulse and they add to the gameplay, that's enough to push me over the edge and buy the X1 version instead.

I was going to buy Sniper on X1, but the news about the patch has pretty much put me off. I'll wait to see what the size of the PS4 patch is along with if there's any news of how impulse is implemented.

I own all next gen consoles and a capable PC.
I still like to play most multiplats on the Xbox One because of the Live community stuff, the controller and the achievement system.

For now I also ddon't see why I should change this, for now I think my PS4 will end up as an exclusives machine.

I am exactly the same. Although I am selling my PS4 this week to a workmate who will have more use for it than I do. I will look at getting a PS4 again in 2016 when there are more games for it.

Unless they are really ugly in comparison, multi on One for its controller, not having to deal with PSN, achievements, friends. Then exclusives on PS4, WiiU, pc. Easy

Most of my friends switched from 360 to ps4, I now mainly will buy games for ps4 because of this. BF4 on my own is boring whereas most my friends have a blast on the ps4.

Logic should mean:
- exclusives on the relevant boxes
- sales where they are cheapest (eg strider was on sale on Xbox one)
- Multiplatform on PS4

However, as I have my Cable TV running through my Xbox, it is always there, ready to go. That sheer accessibility makes it more tempting to buy Multiplatform on Xbox one, even though I know they'll technically be less good (they still look great)

For big titles I'll probably still stick to PS4 though. At least for now. Remote play is also handy, to allow me to play while the TV is in use.

PS4 for exclusives and PS+ and XB1 for everything else. I like having as many games as possible on the one system, its fat better to use but more importantly I don't know anyone with a PS4.

It all depends in where most of my friends are? What has the better exclusive stuff? What has the better fps/Resolution? Stuff like that. As of right now PS4 has most of my love and my Gaming PC I hope my Wii U will get more love and same for my xbox one.

I only use both of them for exclusives, so they both sit there doing nothing for months.

Yep PC kinda render both the xbone/ps4 redundant, My xbone was a Titanfall box for 3 weeks or so. I'm actually thinking on selling it now.

Console makers need to flex their exclusive muscle, for realizes.

All third parties games on PS4. XB1 for exclusives only. Eventually, I will double dip on 3rd party games for the XB1, once they become cheaper. I did the exact same thing with the PS360, except vice versa. I just like to collect games.

My Xbone sits with the Wii U, I only use them for exclusives. Everything else is played on my PS4, I just like the Playstation experience better.

It seems kind of odd that it's mostly junior members stating the "multi - Xbox, single - ps4" thing. Sure there are plenty of XBONEs out there but with the sizable lead the PS4 has the numbers don't seem to support XBONEs XBL being as far ahead of PS4's PSN as this thread would seem to indicate.

True. In the USA, ps4 is selling the largest number of (everything) multiplayer games and is sporting the largest online communities for (everything) said games. I have yet to purchase an xbone and will do so once the price reaches $299 or lower as the console's power does not warrant $399 IMO. Will use exclusively for exclusives, should anything good show up. Right now pie in the sky CGI trailers aren't doing it for me.

PS4: Singleplayer exclusives
Xbox One: Everything else

I'm more invested in my Xbox gamertag so that's why Xbox One is my main console. I also enjoy laying back, relaxing, and playing some games while watching TV/Netflix snapped on my XB1.

My Xbox One is where I purchase all my Multiplatforms.

PS4 hasn't been touched since Infamous launched, sadly. I don't really care about Peas or Front Perspective Seconds, and I prefer the controller, network service, and ecosystem on Xbox, and that's where all my friends are.

I used to buy most multi plats on ps4. Now that most of my friends have an xb1 and with resolution becoming less of an issue I go with xb1. Watch _ dogs and wolfy I picked up for the one. Destiny I'll be picking up for the ps4 because of bungies infatuation with sony.

Don't have an xbone yet but will get one eventually. But right now all my friends are on ps4 so I'll stay there with all the multiplats and the xbone will only be for the exclusives.

PS4: Exclusives and multiplats 'cause they run best on this console. Plus I like trophies more than achievements for some reason.
XBO: Mostly exclusives.
Wii U: Strictly exclusives and nothing else.
PC: Mostly exclusives, mostly indie stuff.

If I can play the game with my friends, I buy it on PS4. If the game is single-player, then I buy it on Xbox One.

Can you explain more? I'm curious why you'd buy single player games on the Xbox when presumably all Multiplatform games run better on PS4, and you already play with your friends there, so you could be invited to play online while playing a single player game etc.. Controller preference?

Most of my multiplats are purchased for the Xbox One. The PS4, just like the PS3 was last Gen, is mostly used for exclusives.

The controller, the interface, friends, achievements basically the ecosystem is was what's keeping me there. Also I'm not as sensitive to resolution and framerate as some Gaffers. (And games are much cheaper on the Xbox One, for me, due to being able to purchase directly from the US marketplace saving up to 33% per game)

Currently my multiplatform ( not counting console exclusives) purchases look like this;

PS4:
- Watch Dogs

Xbox One:
- Child of Light
- CoD Ghosts
- Battlefield 4
- Need for Speed Rivals

ps4 on mulltiplatforms

but if it has multiplayer I go with the greatest number of friends also planning on buying.

But I must admit for games like destiny, I will be buying on both.

Well if it's a multiplatform game, PS4 always. Because PS4 runs multiplatform games better 99% of the time. I'll usually double check with Digital Foundry, but I was never going to buy Thief anyways.

If some super popular multiplayer game has the XBOne version going for like $15 or less later on down the line I will buy it so I can play with the one or two people I know who got that console only.

You can buy from the US marketplace on PS4 too..

Odd how many on gaf choose the XB1 for multiplayer games when the PS4 seems to dominate in actual player numbers online.

Is it a holdover from generation 7? Or do many XB1 players want to keep connected to their xbox 360 friendslist? Because statistically, most people jumping into current-gen would be buying PS4's, right?

Xbox One is my main console because the majority of my friends are there, I prefer live, I've been happy with the updates so far, andthink it has the better exclusives announced. Especially this year. Also really like running my cable through it. It's nice to jump between tv and games and get notifications no matter what I'm doing. The thing is almost always on in my house. I've also pretty much been an Xbox guy since Halo2 and XBL launched I guess. My PS4 is mainly for exclusives and free ps+ games.

Most of the time I have to admit it is the PS4 as I prefer the controller (just) over the X1 and you do tend to get a better experience.

But I buy them both for the exclusives as I hate to miss out (never have in the past 4 generations) but price also helps, you can get better deals on X1 games than PS4 sometimes so I check that also.

Gaffers are probably playing with their own friends. If you want to dabble with the plebs, sure, PS4 has the numbers there.

It's just what people prefer, why so are many in this thread incapable of seeing that?

It's like how somebody sticks to getting an iPhone instead of getting the latest and greatest Android phone with a giant screen and screaming quadcore performance, it's their preference.

I thought I would be playing multiplatform games on the PS4 this gen but right now it's like this:

Xbox One: Exclusives and multiplatform
PS4: Exclusives
Wii U: Exclusives

I don't care about achievements/trophies, I just like the Xbox One controller more. Also I love the snap feature of XBO. Being able to watch a movie or a tv show while playing a boring Watch Dogs side mission is really cool.

My main console was the 360 last gen, despite owning all systems. I could end up playing multiplayer games on the PS4 though. My friends (and I don't mean random people on my friends list) who were on 360 last gen are more interested in buying a PS4 this time.

I buy the best version of the game - that will almost always be the PS4. Xbox is left for it's exclusives. It's a shame and the exact opposite of last gen.
