GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

I own both. Here is my rule of thumb.

1. Buy the best version of the two.
2. If they're both identical, buy whichever one is cheaper.
3. If they're both the same price and quality, buy the version that my buddies are playing.
4. If they're both the same price and quality, and no friends are playing it, buy the one for the console that is getting the least amount of play time (which is generally my Xbox One).

Most of the time the xbone because of resume and friends list. If ps4 gets resume then it will switch.

Being older and not having as much time to game the resume function is a godsend.

No but letting uninformed friends buy the more expensive, weaker console is not cool.

L O fucking L. God forbid that these same friends that have been playing with each other on Xbox Live since the original Xbox and want to stay in the same ecosystem and services that MS has built up through the years.

Not at all, since he is a gaffer. I was talking about people who are not informed about the pro's and cons on both consoles.

The argument he posted was not really a great argument.

I see. Well, you know what I think is not a great argument ? Playing down a exclusive game because it's 900p 30fps and then paying $60 for a game that runs at 900p 30 fps and I was amazed people never pulled posters up on this blatant bullshit.

I'm not having a go at you personally and I'm sorry if you thought that but I'm getting a bit bored of the single out the Xbox crowd when bullshit should be pointed out no matter who likes what

I'm sorry.
That is ridiculous.

That would be like me saying I prefer getting mp games on my Wii U because I love how my Mii character announces my friends to me.

What features are different? I don't notice any glaring omissions whatsoever on either side.

It's not at all ridiculous. I have opted for the Xbox version of multiplatform games on most occasions now because the Xbox simply fits in better with me and my family's living room habits better.

If one platform has a clear advantage in regards to a specific title then I go for that. Otherwise I tend to go where most of my friends are - which with this generation is the PS4. Most people have jumped ship because it was XBOX 360 last time around!

Usually depends on the game. Most of the time I choose based on friends. If none of my friends are getting the game, I typically go with PS4 just to have games on it. But most of my games get bought for the Xbox One.

Only exceptions werr Metal Gear and Wolfenstein. Wanted them on PS4 but Best Buy was out of stock and I wasn't patient enough to wait.

Multiplayer - down to which friends are buying it. Singleplayer - down to where I fancy playing it (PS4 is in my bedroom, Xbone in the living room), mildly affected by which version is 'better'

In what world does it make sense for an OS environment to trump - Your friends list, and technical differences for a GAME.

And what habits are you talking about? Are you saying because when your watching TV and you get an alert that someone wants to play a game you can say "Kids, Honey.." - "Yes dad?" - "You know what that means?" - "Yes dad time for us to go play outside while you play Killer Instinct" - "THAAAATTTS RIGHT!"

For me it's a close thing, I think both have fantastic controllers, Sony's especially is a dramatic improvement over previous efforts while I feel Xbox's is more of a refinement.

For the games I feel MS has the better offering as it stands in terms of exclusives that suit my tastes but they can change by year.

I have more friends on Xbox and much prefer that community as a whole so I'm a lot more tempted when it comes to online games to go Xbox One

It's cliche but I really like both and can't wait to see developers really start working on these systems fully instead of cross platform

What are you talking about when you say ecosystem? What services have they built up over the years? The apps with paywalls and Gold for everything? What are you even talking about?

My gamercard above here to prove that I had been playing games on Xbox 1 and Xbox 360 for yeaaaars.

Head nood of approval.

made me giggle inside

I don't see how that is ridiculous and neither do I see how that feature is similar to "Mii character announcements". Getting a game invite when watching TV and jumping straight into a game lobby is a convenient feature... Especially if all of your games are digital.

What features are different? I don't notice any glaring omissions whatsoever on either side.

PS4 has more options for the purchasing of digital games right now; Xbox One has game notification integration when watching TV as well as the suspend/resume feature which many (including me) find convenient for open world games that have long load times.

A world in which people have different preferences?

What are you trying to prove with posting your gamercard? Not everyone is the same you, don't push your way of thinking and making decision on others.

Then again, I'm wondering why I'm even responding to you.

Can't we get back on-topic guys? Thread for folks who own both and want to talk about their preferences? And not people trying to force their preferences on others.

I'm trying to prove I am no Playstation fanboy. Forcing preferences is a whole different thing then informing your mates about what probably is the best choice.

Instead of something flimsy like ecosystem, say "hey, i really like this console manufacturer a lot more than the other one"

it's much easier to understand

Wow are you deep in the trenches of this console war bringing up paywalls. WTF does that have to do with what this thread is about? They have built the entire XBL service up through the years with each console/update. Is that really that hard to comprehend? God forbid that people enjoy Xbox Live as a service. Achievements, parties, snapping things, "Xbox record that", etc....its all part of the ecosystem and all works fluid within itself.

So neither of you own both yet you feel the need to come in this thread to talk about why you prefer one console over the other. The question IS NOT why you chose to buy one console over the other. I mean, don't let that mess with your agendas, or anything.

Informing is good yes, trying to force them to buy product X instead of Y isn't. The latter is what you've been pushing in this topic. This will be my last response to you in this topic, as I feel that I'm talking to a wall.

Don't bother with him BruceLeeRoy, he is big fan of the Xbox platform.

Wow..

I don't have any 'current gen' console yet, so I'd rather not mingle. But saying stuff like that to perfectly normal reasoning? For some people it's not only the game that determines where they purchase it for, but also any conveniences that come with the console OS. My reason for buying an Xbox one in September lies mostly in the fact that I love the games and MS products (sue me). Another important factor for me will be that I can Skype with my gf and game at the same time without the need for a laptop etc. So don't say that someone's opinion is ridiculous, because it isn't the slightest.

But I thought Gaf was/is the safest play to have game convo without the filthy feedback From Fanboys. #noFFFF

No need to prove anything man ;)

A world in which people have different preferences?

I read the "A world in which" in the movie theater guys voice and it made me happy inside.

I really can't understand it at all and thats coming from someone that has been using both OS's in tandem. It's just not something I relate to. Maybe if I had kids or something but it doesn't make any sense to me.

I never said why I prefer one console over the other. I was stating why others state ecosystem and OS features and brought up the advantages that ::gasp!:: both consoles have in that area.

Nice to see another thread in which some choose not to read what people say to bicker.

Love the maturity.

That's fine, was just trying to explain things better. I mean, it was the case last gen too. I know some who liked features like party chat so much last gen to the point in which that influenced their game purchasing decisions too.

You don't even have to click it to know you do not meet the requirement of what the OP is asking. You don't own both so your input on "How do you decide which console to buy games on?" is irrelevant since you don't have that problem because you do not own both. Amazing this shit has to be brought up.

You made a valiant attempt and I appreciate it.
Last gen it was a huge difference. I honestly couldn't stand playing any online game through the PS3 it was such a drag when you were used to the 360's effortless setup.

Why do people take such offense that someone plays their video games on different piece of plastic?

get your shit together GAF. this thread is an embarrassment.

Whichever system it's better for, which this gen so far has been the PS4. I probably haven't touched my X1 in 3 months; a lot of this is due to FF14 though :P

I get you man. I'm sending a PM of XBOX friendship your way as soon as I get home.

What is your problem? Why are you being so rude? Chill out.

And no I don't own both which is why I (again) didn't state my opinion. Please show me a post in which I did that (because I didn't). I do however know the different features between both consoles well as someone who has used both and can reply to people asking about those features.

There has been some in this thread who have stated their opinion in terms of game buying decisions without owning both. Did you reply to those posts too? Know a decent number have a "target" on me here but the rude replies are getting pretty old; especially when I'm not saying anything controversial.

So you are loyal to a company because you are saying stuff about a console you have never played on but are already saying its the best one for you..

Sorry for the offtopic

As much as I love the X1 controller, I buy my muit-plat games for PS4. The resolution's difference is just too much. (At least on my setup, I have a nice TV that I set pretty close too.)

However, if this does not bother you, get the game for the console with they controller you like best for single player games, and for multi player games, get it for the console you have more friends on.

I really want to own my Xbox games, because of the controller and OS features, so I'm hoping that Direct X 12 and the 10% power boost will see some more games hit 1080p, then I may consider swapping my muti platform habits.

???

So a person would be "loyal to a company" if they said the PS4 is the better console for them due to better specs even if they have never played on it?

Right now I'll buy on whatever console the game is best for (likely to be PS4 mostly this gen) but with some exceptions, I bought Trails Fusion on XB1 because I was happy enough to trade off worse resolution for the better controller.

Eventually I imagine it'll be more of a situation similar to that of the PS3/360, I'll be buying older games and while I'll still prefer the better version, I'll be happy to accept whichever version if it's cheaper.

No thats basing something on facts, not opinions....

As in, it has better specs and therefore its the better game console.
