GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

I think my problem is that I have one real life friend who plays Xbox (he literally only plays Halo and sports games), one who has both the Xbox and PS4 (but he only plays PVZ on the xbox and FFXIV on PS4 - and he only plays "one game at a time" for months on end so I'm not going to really be playing much with him).

None of my other friends are that into video games.

So I don't really have anyone to play with online. Makes these decisions even harder, IMO.

The OP asked a question to get replies on how others were deciding to buy multiplats for their Xbox Ones and PS4's. You replying to people asking about features makes zero sense, since they should already know the features between both consoles if they owned both.

But some don't, hence why they are asking questions in the first place. I have used both consoles and came into the thread to read what others were saying about the topic due to that previous fact (again, me using/spending time with both consoles).

And what "target"? I called out MMaRsu, too. It was even in the same post with you quoted. Is it paranoia you feel because you're from TeamXbox.com and now post at WCG and you and numerous others there talk trash about Neogaf? lol

I don't understand the immature snide remarks I get from making simple replies to people who ask questions. Just doesn't seem productive to me. It has been happening in multiple threads here for the past few months so no, it's not "paranoia" (and thanks for proving my point again by the way).

I'll stop posting here though since it was never my intention to get the thread off topic.

For me it isn't as cut and dry as it may appear for some. Last gen, I almost always chose the 360 version of multiplatform ports because of their technical superiority. This gen it's a bit different with PS4 having a slight technical advantage. I go back and forth, but I find myself using the Xbox One more because it's connected to my cable box and because I enjoy the user interface and controller more.

When it comes to multiplatform games, if it's a single player game like Watch_dogs, I'll pick up the PS4 version. With other games, unless there is a noticeable improvement on the PS4, I'll pick up the Xbox One version. Wolfenstein is a good example of this, where both versions are (for the most part) visually identical. When it comes to exclusives, I pick them up on their respective platforms. Wii U included. I thoroughly enjoy both consoles equally, but I prefer the Xbox ecosystem and controller ever so slightly more. The Dualshock 4 is awesome, but the battery life is atrocious. It may as well be tethered to the PS4 all the time.

Slight power difference.... O_o. Okay I will abandon this thread but it sucks people think there is only a slight power difference. I cannot wait till a few years in when both consoles have a good stable of exclusive games that actually show the real power difference. Its not slight at all.

I was led to believe that the XB1 ports of the PS4 games would make my eyes bleed. So far that hasn't been the case so I tend to prefer to game mostly on the XB1 because:

A) it is always on and suspend/resume makes it easy to play for a few minutes and drop it at a moments notice. Killer feature for me due to family/child/pet duties encroaching on me time.

and 2) I just prefer the UI

And I know this doesn't affect everyone buy my PS4 is loud as hell. I think Watch_Dogs may kill the damn thing.

Unfortunately this is true. It has been a gradual decline since the first couple of years with XBL. It used to be great. People communicating to their teammates or just generally having fun conversations. Then as the communities grew the vocal minority of assholes grew louder and eventually everyone just went to party chat or packed up their headsets altogether. Shame, really.

Oh, you're not alone! My PS4 sounds like a jet engine firing up every couple of minutes. At first I thought it was only the disc drive spinning (cuz it vibrates with the loud noise) but it also happens with downloadable games like Resogun.

I can't wait either. That's why I have both.

What was your point, again?

So you're really just intent on taking this thread off topic as much as possible?

To you guys who have both consoles and have given them your fair share of time in multiplayer:

Last gen I would go online on ps3 and it was a graveyard basically, no one talks. Meanwhile on my Xbox 360 I experienced a great community due to their high social interaction and communication.
Is this the same on the new consoles?

Because even thou I love everything playstation I'm making the xbox my primary console if so.

I have Shadow Fall on PS4 and Titanfall on One.

I hear more talking on Shadowfall but many in Titanfall are in parties. I found even on 360 the general chat died off once party chat came around.

PS4 - exclusives + most multi platform games

X1 - exclusives + most FPS games (prefer offset sticks) or whatever my friends play

Wii U - exclusives only

PS4 has more options for the purchasing of digital games right now; Xbox One has game notification integration when watching TV as well as the suspend/resume feature which many (including me) find convenient for open world games that have long load times
Bolded got my attention.

Which game have so long load time that the suspend mode is faster?

Edit - I guess I get that... there are two modes of suspend/resume... one it is like the hibernation that saves the memory on HDD when you turn off but the other maintain the memory ready with the data when you use the standby mode... the second one you will lost all the data if there is some electrical issue.

Exact opposite from last gen for me...

Ps4 exclusives and third parties
X1 exclusives and xbl deals

Where as 360 got all but ps3 exclusives

Bolded got my attention.

Which game have so long load time that the suspend mode is faster?

AC4, Watch Dogs. Pick up the controller, launch the game (voice or button press) and character is still standing right where you left them

Edit to your edit - There is an option to Resume Games when you set your console to Instant On. Instant On puts the Xbox into a low power state instead of shutting it off completely. Resume Games will keep your game running as long as you don't shut the console all the way off or launch another game.

My friends are aware of the power difference yet don't care. It's simply not enough for regular folk to notice or even care.

Some posters on here act like the One versions of multiplats are atrociously worse when it's simply not the case. Remember, you're rarely if ever going to be seeing these games side by side. You're only seeing them on the console you're playing them on.

I used to sell TVs many years ago and used to tell people that yeah, seeing all these screens next to each other running the same image you can see subtle differences in picture. But once you pick one and take it home, it's going to look great regardless.

Whatever version I can get cheaper. If they're the same price, the one with exclusive content/DLC first. If neither of those things happen, controller preference for genre.

I'm pretty bad at noticing most technical differences so I haven't felt the need to only buy multiplats on PS4 yet.

Only game I play often online for XBOne is Titanfall and no one ever talks in that game.

If you really care so much about power differences you should be gaming on a PC anyway....

I read more ;) it is not suspending the game... it is only a paused state used by Stand By... when it suspend it wrote all the memory data to HDD and you can even remove the console from energy but it will take a time to load the game again... a good time.

The Stanby you are using just holds all the memory ready so it starts instantly because it is like a pause feature but if the energy goes down you lost everything.

Edit - I read your edit too... this way is not good for me at all... the real suspend mode is what I'm interested but that way more than open world game loading... btw the loads are really fast on PS4.

To your edit: Correct. You shut the Xbox off in instant-on mode and unless you open a new game, fully-turn it off (hold power for 10 seconds or unplug it) or change profiles, the game is sitting there waiting at the pause screen.

Yeah I can't think of anyway of getting around a power failure. Even if the game was written to the HDD, you would still need to reload the thing and make sure that the correct commands are being processed. I don't think either side will try and have a backup for power failure.

Exactly. Load times aren't terrible for most games but waiting zero seconds versus 30-60 seconds is always nice.

I think the recent updates fixed the problem with switching profiles ending your Game State (although maybe certain games just handle it better). Of course, if the second profile launches any game it would wipe out the game state. Happens to me when my wife uses Xbox Fitness because it's considered a game instead of an app.

Do you think that is a good argument?

Getting more power for 100 EUR difference is nothing to sneeze at. If there was a GPU I could buy that was better and was 100 EUR cheaper, you would see people make similar arguments.

Interesting. I haven't bothered to test it, but thanks for letting me know. I figured it wiped when you changed profiles because of how cloud saving works.

Awful lot of people here saying their friends mostly have Xboxs, so they have more enjoyable multiplayer. Really surprising for me.

I only know one person with an XB1 and he really regrets it :S

I also only know one person with a XB1 and he thinks it's garbage, but that doesn't mean that the millions of Xbones that have been sold vanish. :-P

Never touched a DS4 or Bone controller.

Which is best for FPS games? Which do you guys prefer? Never really thought about it until the "offset sticks quote."

there isn't really a consensus, people prefer what they prefer, however I do think a fair number of people have written of the Dual Shock 4 before even trying it because of the stick positions

and 2) I just prefer the UI

I'm in a similar boat here. I find myself just really enjoying the UI of the XB1. Plus being able to switch to Netflix for my daughter and back to my games instantly is pretty awesome. I guess I'm that consumer they were aiming for when they designed it. The thing is essentially silent so I don't mind having it on all the time. It might be my age but walking into my mancave and saying "Xbox, on" and having it turn on my system, tv, and Denon just feels cool. It's just constantly on now. Even when I'm not playing, something is going on (twitch, netflix, etc.). It just feels like a more versatile box at the moment.

Also, having gotten 100% for Tomb Raider on both systems (I wanted to see the real differences for myself), I was surprised how well it ran on the XB1. I went in with silly expectations having read too much hyperbole about system differences on here. Originally the power differences were my biggest concern. I honestly went into this generation expecting to buy all my multiplats on PS4. I was primarily a PS3 guy last gen even. On that point maybe other things have always outweighed performance though. The PS3 felt more versatile to me last generation especially with media capabilities (bluray, no sub for Netflix, etc.). Or, maybe I'm just a contrarian ;).

As for controllers, I prefer the sticks on the PS4 and the triggers on the XB1. While I feel they improved the triggers on the PS4, holding them down just doesn't feel comfortable to me. It makes my hands want to slip off the grips for some reason. The sticks are perfect though. The pads are a toss up.

Never touched a DS4 or Bone controller.

For me, the X1 controller has the better triggers, but the DS4 has the better handles (soooo comfortable), bumpers and sticks (i prefer the placement and the resistance of the DS4 sticks).

So i would choose the DS4 for FPS's.

its perfectly reasonable to care about power differences between CONSOLES and not really care about PC gaming

that's a shame then. If power and pushing pixels is what one cares about then the PC is the best platform. Not sure why people would willingly limit themselves, but to each their own.

So I don't really have anyone to play with online. Makes these decisions even harder, IMO.

All of my real life friend outgrew gaming ( in their own words ) so I'm mostly playing with people I get to know online. I know some of them for 8 years and still counting.

Look for the best version of Multi-plat.
+ Trophy is added bonus.

Xbox1 - Titan Fall however I recently purchased it on PC so now my Xbox1 is not doing anything.

limited budget? or people just prefer consoles to PC gaming. it's really not that hard to understand.

I have both and it is simply beyond what "runs best" (in reference to ps4 having the "best" multiplats).

If it's an online multiplayer, the xbox has an infrastructure edge. IMO, the xbox has a superior online infrastructure. The problem is the install base is now smaller so that edge might be nulled going forward.

What type of game is it? However more powerful the PS4 is, I do NOT like the symmetric thumb stick. I will say the DS4 is a leap ahead of DS3 which was junk to me. The DS4 is great stuff and I read Bungie had input on its design --- but what puzzles me is how Bungie allowed them to stay symmetric (versus assymetric of xbone) and convex thumbtops.

What are your friends lists like? I'm guessing Destiny will run better on PS4, but do I have friends on PS4 that are going to play it or are my friends are xbone more reliable? In my experience only, my xbox friends are much more reliable as multiplayer gamer companions. Not trying to cause fights --- this is in MY experience only --- but my ps4 friends are fanboys that own the ps4 only to argue about superiority over xbox. They are the same people that would have dismissed Destiny as "another crap Bungie game" if it would have been xbox exclusive. So, friend interaction is another consideration.

It's about time you got on GAF, N4G can't be saved.

About the controller, I prefer the stick placement of the XBO for FPS games, but for other games it feels somewhat awkward. I also don't like how small the heads are and that they're so loose. DS4 has sticks closer together, but I prefer the tightness and using R1 to shoot.

Seriously, why do people need to use the bumpers on the XBO to shoot? You're either shooting or not shooting. Make up your mind. Also, don't ever buy generic controllers, EVER. The dead zones are too large and the sticks are far too tight. Wasted $24 on 2 before realizing my mistake.

Awful lot of people here saying their friends mostly have Xboxs, so they have more enjoyable multiplayer. Really surprising for me.

Really? This is surprising to you?

The choice of console is irrelevant. What matters is your friends (as in people you know in real life) and you all owning the same console and playing together. Wouldn't you have a more enjoyable time if your social circle could all play online together, as opposed to playing with a bunch of randoms? Are you really such a nerd that you'd always have the hardware disparity in the back of your mind, even when gaming socially?

If it's an online multiplayer, the xbox has an infrastructure edge. IMO, the xbox has a superior online infrastructure.
What does this mean? Be as precise and specific as you can. I'll look up any term I don't know myself, so you can also get technical.

limited budget? or people just prefer consoles to PC gaming. it's really not that hard to understand.

then power and graphics capabilities aren't the only things that matter.

anyways, you jumped in the convo late and are probably misinterpreting why the PC thing was brought up to begin with.

none of this matters. Just ludicrous nonsense.

no one said they are the only things that matter but you can still care about graphics and power differences if all you ever do is play on consoles.

but you're right I jumped in late so I'll let it go

PS4 is the console with more power, so, pretty clear on that one. I got the Xbox for its exclusives.

Yeah. I won't even get the cheaper ones on one when I have a ps4 that will play them better. One is for exclusives like forza halo sunset etc

Sure --- in my own experience starting with 360 vs ps3 I feel the xbox online experience just "works" better. Less lag / better connections. Remember that ps3 online was advertised as free when it came out. I told my fanboy friends "you get what you pay for" and I noticed lots of crap lag on ps3 games. I also hated how the ps3 OS had piss poor online functionality built in: NO notification-> guide button accepts / party chat between multiple games / OS level game invites (versus game specific invite functions) ala 360.

Fast forward to x1 vs ps4, the jury is still out. MSFT has butchered the operating system functionality of the 360 and parsed everything out into separate applications. Game invites are now a mix of operating system AND game specific invites (Killer Instinct). I'm not sure if this was true for 360 as well but I just remember using my guide button to pull up friends and invite them in games for Halo and Gears (and do it quite quickly as well).
I also feel MSFT probably still has a server advantage so my infrastructure comment also relates to that. Additionally I felt they had a stronger online community of multiplayer gamers. However, that may be over after their launch blunder.

That's what NeoGAF is for :jnc
