PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

To be fair, there is a lot of hype going into Type-0 that I don't think is purely rational. Many people are pinning their hopes on this game to be the Final Fantasy that FFXIII wasn't for last gen. I might not be so hard on the game as Vamphuntr, but there are still fundamental game design decisions that I have to wonder whether they'll change for the remaster

I totally agree! I've become a little more disappointed with the fan translation, it's a good game, but I definitely expected a lot more. And it's absolutely a portable game... From a generation ago. So the mechanics aren't exactly designed for current home consoles. So I don't see this game working very well if it's a simple graphical upgrade.

Edit: top page suggestion is Borderlands 2!!

Me. Loving every minute of it, and I agree.
Got some kind of ultimate rare siren mod drop last night too *pumps fist in the air*

Hey PSN-GAF, how is Z.H.P.?
I don't like Disgaea, because of the micromanaging and weird mechanics. Isn't this more of a rogue type game instead of a turn based tactics game?

I'm about 30 hours in and also loving every minute of this game. I love the Mechromancer class, going to play Siren after this :3

I couldn't wait so I bought MUSYNC.

As kassatsu stated it's a DJMax (Portable) clone and in that vein the aesthetic presentation is on the ball, lots of neon, flashy lights and led effects.

Two difficulties: Easy and Hard and options for 4 keys or 5 keys. In game the L and R buttons are used to speed up or slow down the notes respectively.

The timing is much less lenient than Cytus Lambda and (as you'd expect) is closer to DJMax.

No touch interface as far as I can tell, only the Vita controls (using O to confirm).

In 5 Key mode the middle key corresponds to either the Right direction button or the Square button.

Backgrounds are static, but graphical effects may alter the look during a song. There are small animations upon pressing the correct button on the corresponding key.

There is no fail-state and lowest rank seems to be C with sync of 0%.

Pressing buttons when there is no corresponding key doesn't seem to count against anything.

The results screen is made up of your Accuracy Ratio (Exact (Either 100% or EX), Great, Right, Miss), Sequential Ratio (Combo, Combo %), ADD.RAT (Your EX count and EX %), SYN.RAT (Sync Ratio) and letter rank.

Sync graph correction: Corresponds to letter rank.

Game only remembers your SYN.RAT (Sync Ratio) and letter rank for each song (and subsequently each mode and difficulty).

Pause screen has options for Resume, Restart, Quit.

No other option menu.

Song list seems to be made up of instrumental tracks and Chinese vocaloid songs (Makes sense, the developers look like they're from China).

7 dollars for this or 20 dollars for PSP version is all I need to know. TELL ME.

It's a DJMax clone, with clone being the operative word. Might be better down the line when they add more songs, but the PSP DJMax games are still content rich as far as games go.

Came across small bug where UI for L and R buttons didn't show up during a song (but worked nonetheless). Fixed itself upon restarting the song.

edit: Wait, DJMAX Portable 3 is no longer 20 dollars. Oh god I shouldnt have waited.

Yup, it's a rogue-like game. It's my first rogue-like game, and I cried and was demotivated whenever I get a good weapon and die. :(

I wanna give it another try, though, but still having doubts.

I love roguelikes and the japanese tv superhero and retro game angles have me very interested.
Gonna watch some youtube videos to try and get a better feel for how it plays. It is $20 after all.

Siren class is awesome. I'm about to respec since I mostly play solo and some of my skill points need to be shifted around for that.

I just finished the wildlife preserve which was absolutely insane.

I loves that area of the game, the colors pop out more which is a far cry from all the browns in the other areas of the game. The HighLands are is also pretty nice.

I don't play online much because most people just do their own thing, don't feel like we aren't on the same page most of the time, so I built all of my skill points to benefit only me.

Japanese readers, aid us: http://blog.hokanko-alt.com/archives/39539184.html

Apparently Square Enix spoke about Vita. Is it good news, or omae wa mou shindeiru?
More iOS ports confirmed lol

They said they're going to release titles on Vita, coz "their titles and Vita suits each other well".

Does that mean that Chaos Rings 2 is coming...?

They're essentially saying they will release Vita games because the Vita suits the kind of games they make

Edit: beaten

LOL. And Type-0, perhaps the title of theirs that would fit Vita better than any other, is going exclusively to consoles.

They actually have DQVIII on iOS. I wouldn't mind that port, ok SQEX?

Makes sense. Sony abandoned Vita and given the stock sale earlier in the year, they're done with Square Enix too.

Is there any hint that it's phone ports, or is that just cynicism from you? Not to say it's unwarranted given Final Fantasy Typo and the one non-Monster Hunter co-operative action game skipping Vita.

it's all going to be unity ports
final fantasy agito
that cool mana game we're never getting in english
hitman go (believe)
deus ex: that phone one (meh)
dragon quest viii

I actually want a chance to play that f2p game haha
I heard it is pretty good for what it is.

Hm, I tried it out, but only very briefly as the artstyle wasn't really to my taste. It took ages to install and update for me, and from what I experienced plays a lot like every other mobile f2p tcg (which I kind of had enough of on iOS). :\

I tried the f2p Mana game on iOS, but the loading times on my old iPad killed the fun for me and I gave up.

I'm actually looking forward to Chain Chronicle Vita launching sometime soon. And hopefully Wonderflick gets ported over too, I've been holding off giving it a go since it's supposedly coming sometime this year.

I picked up MUSYNC as well. Definitely a DJMAX clone, but a competent one as others have stated. I'm having more fun with it than I did with the free version of Cytus Lambda.

$7 is a bit much for the amount of game you're getting (2 difficulties / 2 modes x 10 songs), but hopefully the updates should fix that.

Sometimes you just want to play a traditional note stream music/rhythm game without any of that touch screen interaction so MUSYNC fills that gap for me, especially in lieu of the AU store not having DJMax Portable 3.

If I could read Japanese I would play it but sadly I don't. Really want to see why Japanese gamers pour in so much money into these cheap games

Is anyone here still playin Borderlands 2 on their Vita? The latest patch really worked wonders on bugs and frame rate issues.

I am, and yeah it's definitely a bit smoother. I still get some hangs occasionally, but not as much, and it never bothered me much in the first place.

Finally beat it on normal for the first time the other night... never finished on PS3, and passed over some sales on Steam to wait for the Vita version. Shows how much I enjoy playing games on this thing.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I forgot UMVC3 VITA version!!!!!!

It disappeared!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Europe's not going to see a discount on the UMVC3 DLC before it's delisted, are they?
It didn't happen the last time the PS3 version was delisted.

I think Sankaku Million Arthur is available in English on the iOS store in some regions (Southeast Asia I think?). I don't understand why someone would spend in excess of the price of a console game on such games either (since I'd rather pay for and play console games), but I guess these games are more accessible in the sense there's hardly any learning curve and they're kind of pick up and play, and usually quite mindless. :\ Plus you get to collect virtual, but (hopefully) pretty art/characters! :P

Pretty much the same reason why anyone plays any mobile games with IAP (in app purchases) and also pays quite a lot. :/ They're addicted. You see this with Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans as well...

Chain Chronicle is actually quite fun. There's some strategy with party selection and placement, fights aren't boring, and rounds go fast. I have played the ios version a lot and never spent a dime... Errr yen.
The story is also kind of fun to follow and the characters are usually well written. I'm wondering what will change with the Vita version. Oh! It was also made by Am2, which is a studio that is a serious stickler for quality.

The Crunchyroll app has been removed from PSN for Vita.
...

Crunchyroll is back up in the Vita store.

The same thing happened with the NHL Gamecenter apps a few months ago. 2 versions of it were gone from the store, then came back a week or 2 later.

Europe's not going to see a discount on the UMVC3 DLC before it's delisted, are they?

You're too late. The game and the Value DLC bundle were on sale 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, I quite like Chain Chronicle, and it's nice that all the characters have some sort of story and quest, even the Common ones, so you don't end up just dumping/fusing/forgetting about them the moment you get them. I also really like the battle music. :P

That moment when Type-0 is suddenly a "not missing much" game after the TypO debacle. I think this is the third time I've seen similar comment in this thread.

I don't expect everyone to like the game, but come on people. At least leave out whatever lingering feeling you have about the Vita-Type-0 relationship out the door when you play it.

As easy as playing it yourself. I was ultra hyped for this game (maybe the problem). And while it is fun, It not the second coming of Jesus Christ. The game is lacking as a "proper" Final Fantasy, and the game has some heavy flaws in the design. Once this game releases in the west is gonna be a wild ride.

Regarding the PSM game like DJ MAX, sooooo bought if the demo plays fine.

Dear Sony,
I can't hold all these games on my PS Vita.
It's time for you to announce an eye gougingly priced 128 GB card.
Or save all the trouble and announce a 256 GB card.

If it were Deus Ex the fall then I'd take it :)

Are they following a Cytus Lambda pricing model? If any more music/rhythm game fans have tried this and think it's worthwhile I'll get it right now.

I've been avoiding PSMobile and hoping the good stuff would transition to PSN proper but decided to check out Cytus; is it really ~100 songs for the one time $13 upgrade? I'm so used to 1:$1 in music games that it's hard to believe. Wish more had vocals though. But the free demo may as well be a full game, crazy.

Have you forgot that the fan translation was released the day before the Type 0 HD announcement?
People is actually playing the game from then.

I was one of those that asked A LOT for Type 0 localization, i liked the demo and trailers were awesome, but now that i'm (not)playing the full version i see the bad points, i really don't like the free time grinding, the time management and the 14 people party, i like story missions but those things really kill the game for me.
Type 0 with just story missions would have been a lot better.

Maybe the HD version will be better(but can they remove time management and some main characters?), but type 0 PSP is not that great.

Me. Loving every minute of it, and I agree.

It sounds like damage control to me.

LOL. And Type-0, perhaps the title of theirs that would fit Vita better than any other, is going exclusively to consoles.

The problem with Type-0 is that some people are almost treating it like the "saviour of JRPGs" and think Square Enix is going to go all out with the port.

They're all in for disapointment. Type-0 is a handheld game at its soul, for what I've read. It's mission based and all that stuff. The scope it's limited by the PSP capabilities, just like it was in Crisis Core. People that think that Square is going to rework everything to make it a PS4/X1 game is being delusional.

I'm sure the game is good and I'm sure I'll like it more than Final Fantasy XIII (sorry suppa) which was a mess and have one of the worst pacing I've ever seen in a JRPG (and I'm a Tales fan, so I've played quite a few games with bad pacing)

They actually have DQVIII on iOS. I wouldn't mind that port, ok SQEX?

Yeah, they'll port it. And they'll keep the vertical position and the touch screen only pad instead of reworking it to work on the Vita.

About the "Unity ports" thing I don't see the problem. I think Sony should have tried to make devs port their Unity games to the system long ago (if posible without microtransactions). There are games on Google Play that look cool (but I won't play due to touch controls) and could work well on the Vita. Like that Dead Trigger game, for example. They should have tried to get Deus Ex: The Fall on Vita at the same time as the iOS/Android release. I'm sure some people will love having a chance to get the version whose controls don't suck.

But it seems they're too busy with their new best friends aka Compile Heart XD

Got my 2nd platinum today. Such a fun game.

I only played a little to Type 0 but imo Crisis Core is better, or at least funnier to play.
Type 0 had a great potential but the realization killed it.

I don't see the handheld-ness in both T0 and CC, isn't FFXIII and many other console jrpgs as linear as CC? Aren't Atelier games structured like T0? Why those console games aren't called "handheld" games?
Imo some people(especially PS3/4 owners) intentionally define "handheld" bad games to indirectly despise handhelds(especially PSP and Vita), but then they are incredibly happy when Type 0 is announced for them and criticize the angry Vita owners.
The PSP had no faults, it had many "console" games, it was totally capable of full blown games, it would be like saying that the PS1(that was weaker than the PSP) was not able of full "console" games, the power of a console has nothing to do with the quality of its games.

Dear Sony,
I can't hold all these games on my PS Vita.
It's time for you to announce an eye gougingly priced 128 GB card.
Or save all the trouble and announce a 256 GB card.

This is incredibly needed. I have a 32 GB, but I tallied up all my games a few months ago and was already past 64 GB then. I want to upgrade, but I'm not going to until I can fit all my games onto one card.
Hoping more for 256/512/1TB than 128, though I know all of those are very fucking unrealistic.

I know. But you have to keep your expectations. You couldn't expect that areas in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep to be as big as the ones in KH1&2 because the system was less powerful. And the worlds are smaller and you can finish them faster than in the console versions. It wasn't bad since there were 3 characters, each with their own story and all that. I think BbS is a good example of a "console quality game" adapted to a handheld.

With Crisis Core is kind of the same. The sidequest structure, for example. Is made so you can just pick it up and do some mindless killing in a 10-15 minutes break. If you do 2-3 at a time, it's cool. If you do 10 you're going to throw you are gonna be pissed.

Handheld games and homeconsole games have different pacing and structure. Some are due to the system contrictions, and others are there in order to make those games easier to pick up and play for a short while. That's what I meant.

I also think I like Crisis Core more, maybe, even though that story also felt somewhat incidental and the monster variety wasn't so hot by the time Angeal monsters are all you're fighting.

And speaking of BBS I also regard that as a great game regardless of whether it is a handheld title. The PS3 remaster will be fun if they add in some NPCs to liven up the worlds.

$13 nets you the full game and any future song updates for free, yes.
