Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

question for you guys. I know the game has not been released yet but I am thinking. This is a new IP do you see this having any life (despite sales of the first game) to have multiple releases.... ex Splatoon 2,3 etc etc?

Can only see it not if: a) sells terribly, b) if they went F2P model (but obvs get a sequel on next platform)

If it takes off, I imagine it'll join the "once a console" style games like MarioKart

Found this little gem on Steam Community, apparently in production since 2010

Poor guys, Splatoon carpet bombed them more or less. They've got their own twist on the idea (it's about conversion of characters rather than team creation, and looks top-down isometric-ish). Great mode though - there's one where you have to splatter an invisible player, but they leave footprints in paint!

Man, that's gotta suck.

Its the new COD.
because they're both marine creatures haha...I'll stop now

But seriously, I can see this being a new series. Splatoon 2: Global Inkfare, build your own stages and whatnot.

probably over 95% of the people who post's in this thread think it will be a longlasting franchise.

Nintendo want it to join their big once per console cycle releases like Smash and MK.

If it turns out to be a complete flop then they might drop it, but I really hope the game does well.

I feel like we have reached a point where if any of the big publishers wants a game to be the next big thing, they will make it, regardless of quality and make it sell millions

I'm worried about aesthetic differences of the maps. I hope it's not just a matter of different layouts of the same white-building-city aesthetic.

Some of the screens show a gritty industrial zone, plus a shopping district, so I don't think there'll be a lack of urban environments. I wonder if they'll have more rural areas though, like a farm or a forest. Or, you know, the beach, cause squids.

Oil rig, perhaps? Space station? Maybe something like Goldeneye's Cradle?

The geometric focus must be retained in order to utilise the turf war and mobility mechanics properly, but there is a lot they can fit into that framework. I'd just love to see a map that incorporates snow; to see how they'd handle its interaction with the ink.

Oooh, the snow got me thinking of cool environment ideas. What about a stage with water where maybe the ink won't stick and there's just 1 bridge that allows people to cross. Or maybe if you spray ink in water it floats and you can use it like a raft

Awesome ideas. I'm really curious to see what the SP game will be like as well.

Kakariko / Kokiri village.

Dunno why I'm so excited for this game, but it just has an awesome nostalgic vibe. Makes me want to play it while sitting cross-legged on a beanbag chair, drinking some HiC and snacking on some lunchables.

Been thinking of switching over from Cia...are there any more? :OOO

There's always more.

I don't know if that's necessarily true, at least in Nintendo's case. If it were, Super Mario 3D World probably would have been a big thing already and we'd have no such thing as bombas.

Still, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros at the end of this year look like they'll be giving the Wii U install base a much needed boost, and I hope that Nintendo positions Splatoon as their next major multiplayer property for when the Smash crowd starts looking for something else new to play. The potential is there, so long as they pack the game with enough content.

Well 3D world did sell alot especially with it's instal base at the time, it just had a slow start overall but it had legs, and it most likely will get a 2nd wind off the momentum of MK8 and E3
